This may seem like a strange review to leave, 10 years after installation, but I really feel this is well deserved. I was recently victim to vandals who decided to try to break in to my livingroom via my C R Smith windows which were installed over 10 years ago. They only managed to smash the outer pane of double glazing despite using brute force, and when the glazier came to do the repair, what should have taken 10 mins, took over an hour thanks to the sturdiness and security features within the window frames. He told me he had been doing the job for 35 years and had never come across such quality windows - made his job of popping the panes from the frames really difficult. I finally opened one of my windows to tilt two years after installation. It opened and closed but no tilt. One call to CR Smith to explain this got me transferred to someone who understood the issue. A couple of hours later, I got an email with a date and time for an assessor to come identify the work needed. He arrived on time, looked at the mechanism and identified the issue. I initially posted a review of the bad experience I had with CR Smith. The lads that fitted the actual windows were great, very friendly and efficient. Great so far, then the painters came out to paint the internal wood work, this is when the problems started. when he arrived, he appeared to be in a bit of a hurry, as he informed us his next job was a famous ex footballer. He did a quick bit of sanding and painting, job done in under a hour, six windows in total. After allowing to dry, we inspected the work, terrible, gloss paint on the wall’s, rough finish, as he appeared to, after sanding just painted over it !!!!. We complained to Stevie, one of the managers, who was very apologetic, he said he would send another painter to sort it out, as we didn’t trust the painter we had before. The other painter came out, once again, did seem in a bit of a rush, although he did better, still very sloppy work. By this time, both my wife and I were getting very frustrated given that we had spent a lot of money getting all our windows in the house replaced, by a company who we thought were the best in the business. After posting my initial review, within hours, we had a visit from Stevie again. I was in the middle of painting the mess on our wall’s to rectify CR Smith's sloppy work, luckily we had extra paint to be able to do so, all apart from our bathroom. Stevie informed us the issues would be dealt with, but can we remove the bad review. I reluctantly did so, but as I had lost my trust in the company, I thought if I hadn’t done so they would not deal with the outstanding issues. I informed him also that I don’t have any spare paint to rectify the bathroom and said the least you could do is supply us with some paint, which he agreed to do, he than said he would get a painter to paint the room, which obviously I declined. when the gentleman came out to replace the handles, he had not been given the correct amount, but luckily had a few spares then replaced the scratched glass and repaired the dent, although this is still noticeable, but only on close inspection. He replaced the glass in our door, only to discover a flaw in the replacement he was given, which he pointed out to us, and ordered another one. The remaining paintwork on the aprons which Stevie was notified about, was not even mentioned, once again we had to chase this up, apparently they had no record of this. I would point out that the gentleman who came out to do this work was excellent and is a credit to CR Smith. Another manger then had to came out to look at the aprons again and agreed to replace and paint them. Having lost all faith in the painters, my wife and I agreed to the replacements but decided to paint them ourselves to ensure it would be done properly. Another gentleman then came out to replace the 2 aprons and a further 2 handles, but did not have the replacement glass for the back door, he checked and informed me it had been ordered by mistake and therefore cancelled. I found this very strange since the previous workman had taken photos of the flaws and ordered it. We even checked when we booked in this visit and they informed us it had been ordered. We’ve now got to wait for yet another manager to come out and inspect this glass despite the previous workman reporting it and taking pictures. Do they not trust their staff? Another manager came out and inspected the glass for the back door, he told us that the new one that was fitted had caused a bit of confusion, as they thought the problem had been rectified, therefore they cancelled the order. Another total lack of communication within CR Smith. He then tried to convince us to alter the star rating, which I refused to do. The incompetence of this firm astounds me. Furthermore, only CR Smith can replace the 2 new aprons, with ones that are even worse condition than the ones that we were getting replaced. I actually wish we just kept the old ones. Overall very disappointed in the whole experience which all in all has taken over 10 weeks. The stress and time spent having to take time off work to accommodate them has made us regret the decision to use CR Smith and would strongly recommend to anyone to think again, if they are considering using this company. The reason I’m re posting this is, that anyone considering using CR Smith, bear in mind the issues we have had, maybe we were just unfortunate, but people still have a right to know about these things otherwise it makes a mockery of Trustpilot. Overall experience is speedy fitting, let down by the final finish of the job, which is important, if not more important as creates the final lasting impression. Fantastic experience with CR Smith. Unfortunately there were a few issues with our installation which has become 3 different days rather than all done in one day, the only reason I haven't given 5 stars. However these issues were resolved quickly and professionally by Kyle who made sure we got our house secured at short notice. These things happen and we feel like everything that could be helped was and how it is dealt with is important, definitely a strength with this team. A special mention for Lewis as well who did a brilliant job fitting our doors, he took a great amount of care making sure the job was done perfectly and he was extra helpful and patient with all our questions (including our 6 year old!) and even came back to double check an issue on a Friday evening when he had just finished for the day. Any minor tweaks I asked for was implemented and all work, and in particular the internal joinery was fantastic with zero damage to internal decoration. My initial concern was that my internal shutters on 4 bay windows wouldn’t fit correctly after the windows were replaced.
