Went on Valantines Day for my birthday. Had been meaning to go for a while now and the wait was well worth it. Easily the best overall dining experience we've had in Aberdeen for a long time. All the small plate dishes we picked were made perfectly and arrived at a nice relaxing pace with good wines to accompany the food. The restaraunt was nice and warm for a cold winters day and the ambiance and atmosphere was good. The staff and owners were all lovely and the service was excellent. Will definitely go back if they have a changing seasonal menu. More...

Great food, excellent service! It’s an expensive experience, but a good one! I went for lunch with my friend, we had 2 drinks each, shared starter, small plate each and tasting plate each … it cost us 130£ with tips. The booking system is not good as you need to send an email to get reservation and takes some time a long time to get an answer, but I was told that this will change next week or so … More...

Booked here for early evening drinks and food. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful. We both decided to go for the ‘special’ which was pasta served with chanterelle mushrooms in a truffle creamy sauce. It was delicious and the pasta was al dente which was cooked perfectly. We had sides of Parmesan coated chips - amazing ! For drinks we decided to have a couple of glasses of chilled Prosecco. For dessert we shared vanilla cheesecake with blackcurrant sorbet which again was lovely. I can highly recommend Mara for their excellent food and service. Can’t wait to return. More...

The food here is truly excellent, and so is the service. The only issue we had was one large group near us who thought it was acceptable to shout and swear. I’m no stranger to bad language and drunken behaviour, but there’s a time and a place. It’s called having manners, respect and consideration for your fellow diners. In our case, the management decided not to do anything about it, even after this being brought to their attention multiple times. Unfortunately this problem isn’t unique to this establishment. It’s just a shame it’s tolerated, and an unknown level of revenue will never cross your path. Ratings do and should reflect customer experience. Ours could have been better. We were kindly given a free bottle of wine, which shouldn’t have been necessary; and should have been paid for by the other group. I know dozens of folk who simply don’t go and eat out anymore because they can’t be bothered listening to the nonsense from a certain demographic. Shame really. More...

We visited on Friday, 8th August, and honestly had the best time. There was a small mix-up with our table when we arrived, but the staff handled it so well and made sure we were looked after from start to finish. They brought over canapés and drinks while sorting everything out, which was such a nice touch, and throughout the evening nothing felt like too much trouble. They were more than happy to tweak dishes to suit our tastes, and you could really see and taste how fresh everything was. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and full of good vibes, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming. Big thanks to Alan, Rianna and Niesa you really made the night for us. Been meaning to go here for so long - can’t believe they are now 13 months old Been twice recently - first time they had a private event on so couldn’t get a table but they phoned me back and said as I was by myself if I was happy at the bar I could come. Absolute win for me as at the bar you get to see the chefs cooking and plating which I love - also meant the chef served me many of the dishes I ate and was so attentive when it came to getting his staff to get me another glass of wine - highly recommend the bar seats I ate so much the first night as wanted to try everything - the menu isn’t huge so I’m almost through it after 2 visits The food - I literally cannot gush enough! Everything I have had has been 10/10 or more honestly so so so fine It’s why I returned for visit 2 so quickly - again i sat at the bar Visit 3 to complete the menu (almost) won’t be far away that’s for sure I said to the staff today I though Amuse could not be beaten for quality, but this place is right up there plus the service is laid back, friendly same from the chefs which I got a chance to speak to sitting at the bar - just a great experience It’s a little more expensive, but if you really like your food as I do it’s worth every single penny To accompany the food they have tremendous wines, I even sampled a red today which I’m at the beginner stages with (it was very acceptable to me), I had all 4 white on the first visit and enjoyed them all This is a wee gem in the Aberdeen food scene and I can see myself visiting so many times - if you like your food & wine and don’t mind paying a bit more for unbelievable quality and taste I cannot recommend Mara enough To the team simply 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 More...

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Understanding the client's requirements is the most important starting point, then good lighting, composition, and if people are involved, putting them at ease, is the final ingredient to getting something that sells, promotes, or creates a timeless image.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What are the images are being used for? If it is personal, how do you want to look, and if it is commercial, what message are you trying to convey?
What do you love most about your job?
The range and variation of projects, working with people and learning about them, and their business, and their story. I great satisfaction exceeding client expectations, and the best part of my job is watching my client’s reaction when they see the end results and know I’ve helped capture or create special images.
*Although I am the person behind the camera, working with you, I have a small, but very experienced team that work with me and are available to cover exceptional circumstances to ensure Aberdeenphoto.com always deliver the best for you.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After three years working with a leading studio, I knew what I wanted to offer my clients, and to achieve this, I set up my own studio in 1980. Since then I have had some amazing clients and experiences. The transition from film to digital in the early 90's was exciting, and technology is an ever increasing element of our business, and I love photography as much (or more) today, than I did 40 years ago when I started as a trainee.
Why should our clients choose you?
My approach comes from years of experience and knowing how to get the best out of every shoot. I love working with people, places and details.
From your initial meeting with me, right through to presenting you with your images , I strike the right balance – I listen, advise, and use my expertise and experience to create the results you want. I’m simply there to capture either you or your project, at their very best.
Once you’ve made a booking with me, I am committed to meeting your brief. This ensures you have my full attention and that I provide the very best service.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Most of our services require us to be on-site, or for clients to come to the studio. However, we have been offering Zoom for meetings and a contact-free remote access system for dropping off or collecting products.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
In addition to offering remote meetings and contact-free drop-off, and collection, we have hand sanitisation, and ensure social distancing is observed
Wedding Photography
Our approach to wedding photography is to include some carefully posed groups and bridal portraits along with all the fun and informal moments from your day.
We have a very flexible and fair approach to pricing. We start with photography of the main part of the day, and you add to this as required. This ensures you only pay for the photography you require. The main part of the day includes photography of the best man and groom, guests, the service, the family groups, bridal portraits, and a mock cake cutting. You can then add the getting ready, the drinks reception, and speeches, and the evening reception, if required.
