How much does Counselling cost?

On average, a counsellor will charge about £50 per session. Although, this is variable depending on different factors, such as the location and the experience of the counsellor.

If you’re ready to find the best counsellors near you but need a clearer idea on price, then read our handy counselling price guide. You’ll find out just how much counselling will cost per session and what a counselling session will typically cover.

Is online Counselling effective?

Yes! Studies worldwide have shown online counselling to be just as effective as face-to-face counselling, and even more effective in some cases. With online counselling, you can communicate in a way you feel comfortable. If you’d feel more relaxed talking to your counsellor in a familiar setting, you can hold the session from the comforts of your home. Find a trusted online counsellor on Bark committed to helping you through a difficult time from anywhere in the world.

What can online Counselling help with?

Online counselling can help with pretty much anything that face-to-face counselling can, including difficult life changes, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and much more. However, if your symptoms are extreme you may want to seek more urgent, face-to-face support. If you’re looking for an online counsellor who specialises in a particular field, like family counselling or counselling for children, you can search for online counsellors in a broad range of specialisms on Bark. Just let us know what you need and we’ll put you in touch with the best match for you.

Can I get online Counselling on Bark?

Absolutely! Bark makes it easy to find a trusted online counsellor to help you through whatever it is you’re facing without ever having to leave your home. What type of counselling services do you offer?

At my practice, I offer lots of different types of counselling services – from individual sessions to group therapy. It all depends on what each client needs and what they’ll benefit from. Because a lot of my clients lead busy lives, I also offer online and telephone counselling if that suits their schedule better. Although I always suggest coming in for a face-to-face session now and then, as these are often very helpful.

What qualifications do you have?

To be a certified counsellor, you need to have a Level 4 qualification in counselling. This can be as a diploma, or at a degree or postgraduate level. I chose to go down the university route by undertaking a BSc Hons in Psychology & Counselling. This meant that I got a degree and was accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am now a registered counsellor with over 10 years of experience and have completed a number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules.

What is the main reason your clients come to you?

Most of my clients have certain goals in mind when it comes to their therapy. Often they want to resolve issues which are causing difficulties in their lives. This may be problems in their personal relationships that they want help working through. It could be with their partner, family, friends, or work colleagues. Or they may want to develop coping mechanisms to help deal with their own mental health. But often these can interlink. For example, if a client is wanting help with their personal relationships, this often has a positive knock-on effect on their own mental health.

Who let this guy be a therapist??? Nobody, apparently. A brief peruse through his website/socials, reveals a rather negative, and frankly reactionary, stance toward academia and ‘the establishment’ (by which he means anyone holding an officially recognised certificate). Might this rhetoric be suggestive of a lack of qualifications on his part, of which he is so evidently spiteful? It seems so. Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as open to alternative forms of healing as the next man (or hippy), but when a therapist openly breaks GDPR rules, and insults me and my family, well, ladies and gentleman of the virtual jury, then I must draw the line. I appreciate that my back is up against the wall. Amidst a sea of 5 star reviews, surely my words are meaningless? Well, to that I say, I too am guilty of leaving a 5 star review. Whilst I was still a client, Jerry asked me to leave him a review. Which, as a client, was a very comfortable position to be put in. I do commend their efficient, if a little morally grey, strategy of dealing with criticism however. Delete reviews and turn off YouTube comments. If only I had learnt something so effective during our sessions. Sessions, I might add, which were incredibly impersonal. If textbook phrases and cookie-cutter exercises are your thing, then by all means choose Jerry. But if you’re a human being who’s mind cannot quite fit on an NHS pocket leaflet with tips and tricks for well-being found in an underfunded gp reception (which I’m sure you are, have some faith in yourself!) then look elsewhere. I’m not spiteful (maybe a little), I’m just warning potential clients. This man is a cowboy that would put Clint Eastwood to shame. You can delete my review now, if it helps you sleep any better. Or maybe , god forbid, you’ll address your own neurosis properly.

I have felt fully supported by John, and I have found him to be very kind and compassionate. My schedule is hectic, and he has offered me every available resource in order to best accommodate me.

John is very easy to connect and ground with. My first session with him felt like I walked into a conversation with a friend, versus the usual therapist-patient interaction I was accustomed to. He is extremely grounded in conversation, straightforward in his advice, thoughtful on insights you share, and a genuine therapist to just talk with, create goals with to advance the journey of therapy, and find common ground with troubles being faced. I plan to continue my therapy journey with him, and if anyone needs someone to talk to that can relate to what I expressed here, I would highly recommend reaching out to a therapist like him.
