Insurance coverage for nutrition counseling in Aurora

Good news: nutrition counseling is increasingly covered by insurance. In Colorado, if you have a diagnosed medical condition that affects nutrition, your plan likely includes registered dietitian visits as a benefit.

Commonly covered conditions:

  • Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes (usually 8-10 visits/year)

  • Obesity (BMI >=30) or overweight with comorbidities (3-6 visits/year)

  • Eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder)

  • Kidney disease requiring dialysis or transplant

  • Cardiovascular disease or high cholesterol

  • Digestive disorders (Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease)

  • Pregnancy and gestational diabetes

  • Cancer-related nutrition support

How to use your insurance:

  1. Get a referral or prescription from your doctor

  2. Find an in-network Registered Dietitian (we can help)

  3. Confirm coverage with the dietitian's office before your first visit

  4. Expect a copay ($15-50) rather than full session cost

If you don't have a covered condition, you may still use HSA or FSA funds to pay for nutrition counseling.

How much does a nutritionist cost in Aurora, CO?

Based upon the latest Bark data, market research and regional estimates, the average monthly cost for nutrition counseling in Colorado is approximately $135. Monthly costs typically reflect the dietitian's credentials, specialization, and session frequency, with virtual appointments often providing a more budget-friendly alternative to in-person visits. The national average is around $135 per month, with costs varying based on session frequency, credentials, and your specific nutrition needs.

Estimated investment by payment structure based on your location:

  • Monthly subscription (4 sessions): $122 - $155

  • Single session (60-90 min initial): $122 - $162

Why hire a registered dietitian?

A credentialed dietitian provides expertise that generic diet apps and wellness influencers cannot. By addressing your specific health concerns—whether managing blood sugar or healing your gut—you'll see faster, safer, and more sustainable results than any one-size-fits-all program.

Choosing a qualified Aurora nutritionist

Safety and expertise start with credentials. Ensure your provider is a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. If you have a medical condition like diabetes, kidney disease, or GI issues, an RD is often required for insurance coverage. For specialized needs—eating disorder recovery, sports performance, or pediatric nutrition—look for board-certified specialists.

Budget-friendly nutrition counseling tips

One of the best ways to reduce costs is the hybrid approach: schedule monthly check-ins with a nutrition counselor to adjust your plan, then use those guidelines between sessions. Many dietitians also offer lower-cost group programs for weight management or condition-specific support. Additionally, use your HSA or FSA funds—nutrition counseling with an RD typically qualifies.

How important is a healthy diet to someone’s health and wellbeing?

Paramount. But diet is more than just the food you ingest. Once you’re able to grasp the entire picture of your stress level, your sleep, your lifestyle choices, your exercise level, the amount of movement you treat your body to, your health and well being will improve.,

What do you love most about your job?

Every single thing. I feel like I help my world get better by helping to create more fulfilled humans. Those closer to self actualization are less likely to be negative towards others. If I can assist in that process? I’ve done my job.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I felt confined by corporate fitness. The higher I moved up the corporate ladder, the more disconnected I was with clients, and the more administrative work I was asked to. This put me back in front of actual people instead of PNL statements.

Why should our clients choose you?

If they’re not about changing? They absolutely should not. If you are kicking tires? And not willing to commit? As respectfully as I can say it…please don’t waste your time, or mine. This process is rewarding, but it’s not easy. If you’re not willing to commit to it, then we are probably not a fit. But those who are willing to begin the process of change? Let’s see how far we can take this.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I’m mostly online. I’m located in Denver, so if you are also? We can meet in person. But other than that? Online isn’t a problem.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We can do zoom or FaceTime check ins, as well as measurements. There are many ways to provide feedback that don’t require in person interaction.
