My name is Shane Nolan. I am an athletic development trainer working with athletes and adults from all backgrounds. Whether you are preparing for college athletics or your first game of pickleball, I believe the principles remain the same - it is the modalities and methods that may vary slightly. I focus on a few principles: - Enjoy training - if you do not enjoy it to some degree it will be quite difficult to continue. Not everyday will be “fun” but our sessions will be engaging, competitive, challenging, and fulfilling once completed. - Competition - I believe we are all competitive; it is about fostering a healthy relationship with competition. It is not always about wins and losses - how well did you compete? Did you control your variables? Did explore all your options, trying to win until the very end? These are qualities we can all develop and apply to everyday life. - Problem Solving - movement, training, and competition are all a series of problems to be solved through various physical and mental qualities. Developing our bodies, our health, our fitness improves our capacity to solve life’s problems. - Movement & Strength - these are grouped together because I believe they go hand-in-hand for the majority of the population. Both qualities can be developed and should be developed in sync, and this will create a vibrant and dynamic human and athlete. Under the umbrella of these principles, I train folks from a multitude of backgrounds and starting points - this is not just for “elite athletes.” Through careful observation and years of training experience, myself and my assistant coaches are able to properly prescribe workouts to meet you at your current level and push you on to the next one. I operate primarily at Outpost Jersey Shore, a training facility in Ocean Township but I am available for in-home sessions, at your regular gym if allowed, in public parks or the beach - wherever you want your training to go down. I look forward to connecting and getting you started on your journey.

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

By listening, observing, and meeting them where they are at in order to properly get them to where they want to go. Coach-and-client is a delicate dance, but one I thoroughly enjoy. I few myself as more of a compass then as a map; I am not a hand-holding coach.

Though an easy person to get along with, I am not always easy to be coached by. Once we establish where you are at, we must begin to build on that. This requires challenging you. It is impossible to achieve new things without putting in work you have never done before.

Through building trust, listening, pressing a few buttons, and keeping training engaging I help my clients.

What do you love most about your job?

I love exploring the multitude of ways that folks challenge themselves and compete. We all know the three-sport high school star Hollywood scripted "jock". But what about the parent competing with their past troubles to become a better role model for their kids? What about the young professional competing with the traps of adult hood and poor mental health as they go out on their own for the first times? What about the Weekend Warrior running Tough Mudders to raise awareness for a worthy cause?

Training and competing are passions of mine because of the holistic lens I view them through - it is not about winning at all costs or grinding yourself down to a nub. It is about exploring the depths of your potential and seeing what the heck you can make happen for yourself and your loved ones.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes my services can be provided online or remotely. We can discuss more when the time comes but there are several options for remote coaching and health consulting. FaceTime, Zoom, written up workouts/meal plans, etc.
