Is a personal trainer worth the cost?

In a busy area like Louisville, the biggest benefit is accountability. You aren't just paying for a workout; you're paying for a professional to ensure your form is perfect and your time isn't wasted on exercises that don't work for your body.

What certifications and qualifications should I look for?

A reputable trainer must be certified. Look for certifications from accredited organizations. The most respected in the US are NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), ACE (American Council on Exercise), ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), and NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)—particularly the CSCS for athletes.

How to find an affordable trainer in Louisville

To keep costs down, consider small group training. By grabbing a few friends and splitting the session fee, you get expert attention for a fraction of the price. Additionally, ask about 'Commit and Save' deals where buying upfront lowers the per-session rate.

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

I am a true Personal Trainer because I PERSONALIZE my fitness plans for each client based off of their food restrictions, schedule, exercise experiences, injuries, etc. While most trainers use a template that they provide to all of their clients. By coming to your home I can see the food in your house to help keep you accountable. I can see the distractions that you encounter at home that might prevent you from training on your own. And I come up with strategies to remove those distractions.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

You need a professional to provide proven strategies to meet your goals. I read false and misleading tips and strategies in leading fitness and health magazines everyday. I try to share those misleading claims with my clients to make sure they aren't susceptible to all the quackery. I've read hundreds of strategies that are proven to help reach certain fitness goals and I've determined which strategies are the most important to learn first. I don't try to overwhelm my clients with too much information. I provide them with 2-3 strategies to master at a time before giving them more strategies to work on.

What do you love most about your job?

I just love helping people. My family has always been very giving and helpful, so it's second nature for me to help others. I go out of my way to help clients with things they can't do on their own like climbing ladders on stairways to screw in light bulbs, giving away food samples, lending them my own belongings like my carpet cleaner, humidifier, etc.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was a trainer at the YMCA and Anytime Fitness before starting Charlie's Personal Training. What I experienced was that clients weren't consistent with their training and that they rarely reached their goals so they eventually stopped going to the gym. I shadowed a personal trainer for in home training and experienced that people in their own homes were much more consistent with their training and that they were more likely to do training on their own at home because I had provided them with plenty of exercises. I could make more money being a trainer in a gym but I couldn't live with myself knowing that there is a better way to help all of my clients reach their goals. That's why I started Delivered Fitness and I go to my clients homes to provide personalized training and nutrition coaching.
