What do you love most about your job?

The one-on-one interaction with your child. As a high school teacher, I'm teaching at least 24 students at the same time. What I love about OG is that I get to focus on your child by specializing my lessons to help them master reading skills. Most importantly, I get to help them foster a love of reading for themselves!

What inspired you to start your own business?

Three years ago, I had a 15-year old student in my 9th grade world history class who was illiterate. I'm not exaggerating when I say "illiterate!" She could read and write her name, and that was it. She took "notes" in class, which looked perfect on paper, but she literally could not read it back to me. She stayed after school with me almost every day for extra help, and I didn't know how to help her. At that point, I could teach reading comprehension, but not phonics. I was a high school teacher, after all! That experience was so heartbreaking for me because I saw a student in need and I didn't have the skills to help her back then. I was also angry- who allowed her get to that point where she was in 9th grade and she couldn't read! That experience inspired me to become trained as an OG teacher. Today, I now have those skills I needed back then, and I will never let a child fall through the cracks like that again.

Why should our clients choose you?

Orton-Gillingham training works. Lessons are interactive, multi-sensory, and full of facts about the English language- you'll be surprised at what your child teaches you! Each lesson takes about an hour and a half to two hours to plan because it is so individualized to your child's needs. Each lesson takes about an hour to conduct, and focuses on phonemic awareness, spelling, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Of the students I have worked with, I have always seen growth after 3-4 lessons. If your child is struggling with reading, I would love to help you and your family. Please let me know when you would like to get started!
