Amy Jo Erickson Photography

Hennepin

Amy Jo Erickson focuses on photographing families at certain milestones (graduation, wedding, birth of a child) so they have a tangible way to remember how they felt at that time in their lives. Capturing the happy and good parts of life and sharing those feelings with others is what photography is all about. Brightening someone's day with the happiness captured in her photos is why Amy pursued photography.

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

The secret to a great photograph is capturing the emotion of the people in front of the camera. Amy makes sure everyone feels comfortable during her sessions so their expressions are genuine and relaxed. When people are having fun and truly enjoying what they are doing, that comes through in each photo.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

Family sessions: How many people in your family and ages of children? Does anyone have any sensitivities that I should be aware of before our session begins?
Newborn sessions: Are there any siblings and if so, ages of each child? Do you have any questions about my style of newborn photography?
Weddings: What is your wedding style? Do you have a venue reserved? How many people in your wedding party and how many guests? What do you hope for out of your wedding photographer?
School Photography: Who did you work with last year for your school photos? What worked and what needed to be improved in the photo day and ordering processes? Do you feel parents were happy with the photos they received last year?

What do you love most about your job?

I love capturing the changes in families and kids each year. Capturing a couple's wedding and then as new parents is such an amazing experience as a photographer. And families with older children, seeing them each year and witnessing the kids growing up and hearing about all their experiences throughout the year between photo shoots is so awesome. I treat all clients like dear friends, so sharing in their joy is really the best part of my job.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was inspired to start my own business after I started doing photo sessions for friends. They began referring my services to their friends and since it was gathering some speed, I decided to make it a little more official with a business. For school photography, I found a love of portraits and a need to provide a more personal experience to schools.

Why should our clients choose you?

My clients will receive a very personal experience when working with me for photos.
For families, I can help decide on outfits for the session and what type of location would be best (park setting vs. urban).
For engaged couples, I can help create a timeline of events for the wedding day that will help get the best photos without having it take up too much time out of their wedding day.
For newborns, my easy-going and low-key approach keeps new parents at ease and doesn't put stress on a new baby.
For schools, I provide an exclusive experience which results in a happy administration for how smooth photo days go and happy parents for the quality of the photos they receive.
