Hi, I’m Holly! While I have a variety of credentials from Personal Trainer to Holistic Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian to-be, to Spin Instructor, one thing credentials can’t prove are this: a love for helping people and seeing lives changed. This whole person approach sets me apart from your average coach, helping you reach sustainable weight loss and high performance. After two pregnancies and a history of emotional eating, the pounds really tack on over time. Dorothy has given me the tools I need to make healthier eating choices, even in seemingly impossible situations.
She's more than a nutritionist; she's a counselor for what is underneath the problem. Once I began utilizing her suggestions and making the choices she recommended, my health has improved greatly. I no longer need high blood pressure medication and since July of 2015, I am down 32 pounds... AND I HAVE KEPT IT OFF!
If you're serious about being the best version of yourself and need some gentle, but effective and compassionate advice from a knowledgeable expert, Dorothy Bernard IS YOUR NUTRITIONIST!
Love yourself enough to invest in your future with her guiding you to make better choices in your diet!

I am not one to normally write reviews on YELP but I felt compelled to do so in support of Leona West. Â For years I suffered from medical issues that were partially solved by RX and doctors. Â Leona was able to go beyond the traditional medicine and investigate like a detective specific blood work and details overlooked by my physicians. Â Her demeanor and skills are equal to her results!!! Â Highly recommend for anyone who wants what's best for their body!!!! Â :)))))

When western medicine has its shortcomings and you need someone that will listen and address your immediate pain and discomfort, this is the place to go.  This woman truly has healing hands and really tries to get to the source of the problem.  Dr. Christie has successfully treated me through my 1st pregnancy 3 years ago, first for sciatica and then when I dealt with painful fibroids where I could barely walk.  It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. During that time, I went to her for acupuncture every week and the pain went away with her help before I delivered.  After 2 babies, I stopped going for a while because of  they no longer accepted my insurance. I decided to go back recently  for my allergies and rolfing.  I always feel better after leaving her office.  She is experienced, she knows what she is doing and cares that your condition improves.  And of course, she hires good people to work with her.  You have to be receptive to needles if you do acupuncture.  I would give Affinity my highest recommendation and especially to Dr. Christie.

Common specialties available:
Most major insurance plans cover registered dietitian visits for medical conditions. In California, common providers like Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Humana typically include nutrition counseling as a covered benefit.
What you need for coverage:
Typical coverage:
Check with your insurance provider or ask your nutritionist's office to verify your specific coverage. Many dietitians will check benefits before your first appointment.
Based upon the latest Bark data, market research and regional estimates, the average monthly cost for nutrition counseling in California is approximately $135. The national average is around $135 per month, with costs varying based on session frequency, credentials, and your specific nutrition needs.

In a busy area like Venice, the biggest benefit is personalized, medical-grade advice. You aren't just paying for meal plans—you're paying for a professional who understands your health conditions, reads your lab work, and creates strategies that work with your real life, not against it.
A qualified nutrition professional should be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). These credentials require a bachelor's degree (minimum), supervised practice hours, passing a national exam, and ongoing continuing education. Look for additional certifications like CEDRD (eating disorders), CSSD (sports nutrition), CDE/CDCES (diabetes), or CSP (pediatrics) based on your needs. In California, verify state licensing requirements as well.
To keep costs down, check your insurance first—many plans now cover registered dietitian visits for conditions like diabetes, obesity, eating disorders, and kidney disease. If your plan doesn't cover nutrition counseling, ask about sliding scale fees, payment plans, or group nutrition classes. Virtual appointments are often more affordable than in-person sessions.
