K

Kirsten Cannon

I am a weight-inclusive, LGBTQIA2+ celebrating, anti-diet, sex-positive, neurodivergent therapist practicing with compassion and a sense of humor. I call myself an embodiment therapist because no matter the specific issue that brings a client to therapy, at the core of what I do is helping people become embodied, using my training in Somatic Experiencing. In working with me, you’ll learn how to get out of your head and truly live in your body, appreciate and respect your body as an important source of wisdom and intuition, feel secure and grounded in who you are, and live a life that aligns with your values and what you stand for—without guilt or shame. I want to help all clients gain unconditional self-acceptance, liberation from expectations, and comfort with setting boundaries. My primary focus areas are: eating disorders, body image struggles, anxiety, sexual assault/abuse survivorship, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, sexual shame, purity culture recovery, extreme self-criticism, attachment wounds, developmental trauma, ADHD & ASD recognized later in life, perfectionism, overly controlling/controlled behavior, achievement burnout, and chronic people-pleasing.

What do you love most about your job?

Helping people become the most embodied, confident, and liberated versions of themselves is my life’s work.
Being a therapist is an honor and a privilege. It fills me with such joy and gratitude to watch people transform their lives into the authentic, embodied, fulfilling lives they desire. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is seeing a person feel more secure in who they are and more at home in their body.

For too long, you have believed that there are requirements for being worthy, good enough, and lovable. You deserve a life of freedom, confidence, and joy where you know deep in your soul that you are enough, that your worth and value is unshakeable, and that you don’t exist to keep other people comfortable and happy.

You have spent a lifetime trusting everything and everyone other than yourself, and it’s time to connect with your own intuition and inner wisdom. I may be a trained therapist and highly educated on subject matter, but YOU are the expert on yourself. My hope is that through our work together, you will come to believe that and will move through life with a deep trust in yourself and your body.

Why should our clients choose you?

I take a personalized, integrative, holistic approach to counseling and believe that a trusting, connected therapist-client relationship is the foundation of any meaningful therapy work. I am an ideal fit for clients who are ready to dig deep and want to be heard and validated while also being challenged and held accountable. You will always be safe in sessions with me, but you may not always be comfortable. We will work at the pace best suited to your nervous system, because tolerance is not the same thing as capacity.

Sessions will provide you with the space to express whatever you need to and to be understood and heard. In feeling safe and held, you'll be able to figure things out about yourself and feel what you need to feel. Every part of you and your identity is not only welcomed, but is celebrated in our sessions.

It's important to me to stay open to any feedback and questions you may have and ensure that the process is collaborative. If something isn’t working for you, or if you think I’m off base about something, I encourage you to tell me. This is your therapy, and I want you to help shape the process.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I provide online, virtual (video-based) therapy to clients in Tennessee and Utah.
