When I started working with Melanie about 3 years ago I was very confused and frustrated with many of my relationships with family, coworkers, friends, and especially boyfriends. I wanted to understand why I kept being attracted to people that made me feel bad about myself and unappreciative of what I tried to do for them. My time with Melanie allowed me to understand why I react to situations the way I do and I am now able to cope with situations in a much more healthy manner and have reached the goals I made for myself when starting therapy 3 years ago. Melanie is very skilled at understanding and starting work with her clients based on their emotinal needs and working at the client's pace. I am a true example of this....it took me a long time to get to where I needed to be but Melanie did not get frustrated or pushy. She supported me as I worked through issues at my own pace. Although the thought of going to therapy can be scary, it is honestly the best thing I have ever done for myself and I am so thankful for all of the guidance and support Melanie has given me. She truly is a talented, kind, and compassinate person who wants to help her clients reach their emotional goals. I have already recommended 3 people to Melanie and will continue to send people her way for years to come.

The Ywca saved my life after I was assaulted as a teen and didn't think I had the courage to move on with my life the counselors there not only gave the strength to move on they also gave me the strength and the tools to press charges and go to court. Still to this day years after I still go there and get help when I need it and I hope one day I can do for someone else what they did for me. The staff is amazing, they truly do care about you.
In a world where “thinking” is no longer encouraged, because the media does so much of our thinking for us, Rick Saruna makes the case in his book “Thought Shifting”, that our health and happiness depends on relearning how to think and, more importantly, how to control what we are thinking about! We all deal with negative thoughts in our lives that produce stress and anxiety. And, for some, the negative thoughts are self-perpetuating, and never cease. While sometimes, there are biological factors that contribute to stress and anxiety, such as nutritional deficiencies or exposure to toxins that have the ability to hurt the way our brains behave, ---more of than not, it’s our earliest life experiences and the distressing unconscious memories connected to them, that hijack our happiness. Rick’s book offers to be a true blessing in our lives because, in its pages, he teaches us how to control (master) the inner voice. Using a deft hand, a compassionate tone of voice, and a provocative process of self-inquiry, he shows us (using the power of stories and real life scenarios) how our thoughts shape our reality. He explains why the intention to change our reality is only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to inviting true and lasting change into our lives. If you are ready to release your fears and self-limiting beliefs once and for all, and if you want to learn bold new techniques (not practiced by most therapists) that will free you of your emotional burdens, read this book. Not once, but twice! Then, give yourself permission to smile! -Candia Lea Cole Founder, Eco-Learning Legacies and Eco-Health & Lifestyle Mentor

I received therapy from literally dozens of therapists to get help from depression. They were a total waste of time and money, which made me even more depressed. About 20 years ago, I received therapy from Dr. Sills. She was down to the root cause of the issue quickly, kept me focused on the root cause, and helped me address it. Her therapy is effective, efficient, and long lasting.
When I came to her I was only leaving the house for therapy and to get groceriesI wore sunglasses constantly in public, shielded most of my body in some way or anotherI leave the house every day now. Yeah, I did the work But she made me feel safe enough to do it
Grace Counseling is a quality mental-health establishment. Their therapists use cognitive behavioral techniques to help people see their issues. Part of me wishes it was also more like Marine Corp boot camp, but it never represented itself as such and so you can hardly hold that against it. Overall I had a good experience here, despite the lack of fire watches and being shaken down for loose 'brass'.
STACS provides excellent counseling to children, teens, adults and couples. I feel confident referring children, adults and their families to STACS. I. know they'll receive kind, compassionate and effective care and be seen in a timely matter.
Finding a good match in a therapist can be very difficult. Over the years, I have been to quite a few therapists but never felt I really connected with them -- or they with me. There have been some I liked as people, but in terms of a therapist, so many have just missed the mark. They either had their own agendas or they really just didn't listen to what I was saying. (Or, in my younger days, the fact that I wouldn't say anything.) This is not the case with Ginger Houghton at Bright Spot Counseling.I have been working with Ginger for a couple of years now. Her approach is very gentle and accepting. I've never felt judged or shamed, and she is generous with her sprinkling of kind words and praise. One of the best things Ginger did for me was recognize -- and label -- my anxiety. While I knew I was anxious, I'd never had a professional put a name to it and then offer a real, solid method to deal with it. She suggested medication but without judgment; she did not say "You should be medicated". Rather, she approached it gently, saying, "I don't know how you feel about this, and some people are definitely against it, but meds are one way to go." This is Ginger's approach -- it's gentle, and made through suggestion rather than through directives. She never says "Do this!", but rather, "What do you think about this?" Or, "What would happen if you tried that?" She never judges -- just suggests -- and she gives me the space to reject her ideas without feeling that she's rejecting me.Working with Ginger is truly a two way street; she listens, she asks questions, and she lets me ask questions. She doesn't have that stand-offish aura that some therapists have; rather, going to see her is like going to visit a friend, except that all the attention is on me. But, unlike other people I've been to, Ginger is willing to reveal a thing or two about herself, which makes it easy to relate to and trust her.Bright Spot Counseling offers many different methods of therapy. So far, I have just done the regular talk therapy, but once the weather gets nicer, I am planning to venture into (out to?) the walk and talk therapy. Just the fact that they recognize that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all proposition demonstrates how in tune they really are with their clients. Bright Spot Counseling truly is a bright spot in my life.
