John was excellent! We have three dogs and all have different needs, he was very good with getting the specific needs we needed for each dog while ensuring it was something we could do together. It was very easy to work with John and he truly wanted to get to know us to help us lead our dogs. Highly recommended!!

Great, Great just great!Prior to taking a much needed trip, I needed someone capable who I could trust to walk my extremely leash reactive german shepherd and upon coming across Dominik I decided to give him a try. I really couldn't be more happier or ask for a more positive experience, the guy is great with dogs, extremely knowledgeable and I did not expect the results I saw with my dog after introducing him to Dominik. He was able to successfully manage and control my dogs reactivity while taking him out for his walks, he instilled corrective techniques and worked with my dog with utmost patience and exhibited a high degree of professionalism. My dog seems to be visibly more happy and his entire demeanor seems to be shifting. I am happy to say that I look forward to many future sessions with Dominique and would 100% recommend him for taking care of your dog no matter their temperament.

Fido Fidelis Dog Training gave me the tools i needed to take my dog Chance from good dog to great dog. With stereotypes on the breed dog i own, i wanted Chance to have his obedience down pat to prove to others that it is not the breed but the owners. Not only did they help with his obedience they also got him to stop jumping at cars while walking on a busy street. Then after that, we were able to get him to do recall. Once we learned proper recall, Chance was able to progress to off-leash training. Our trainer was 100% sure Chance would do good. I was nervous that he would run away. After the leash was unclipped, the dog listened perfectly to all the commands. The trainers at Fido Fidelis both cared about Chance’s progression. I highly recommend Pete and Donna at Fido Fidelis Dog Training. They will be able to help you and your dog conquer any challenges or fear that arise!

By very leash reactive and aggressive dog did a month of board and train with James. The results were amazing. She is is able to walk past other dogs while on leash without a reaction. We continue to use her e-collar and work hard with her at home too. It is definitely important to follow James advice of not letting the dog sleep on the bed or go on the couch. We stopped this with our dog and noticed a huge change. Now we use the couch as a big reward. We are so thankful for dedicated dog training. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

My newly adopted Pitbull Cletus was a nightmare to walk on the leash. Every walk ended up in me saying I will never walk him again!
I am very glad I found Adene who taught me what to do. Her energy so calm and nice and I could see my dog change. It was such a great experience for me.
I now have better knowledge and confidence when I walk him. Thank you!

A Dog's Way is AMAZING. They care so much about our Dewey! They are incredibly flexible when we need them. Sebastian, the founder, is a brilliant trainer too so you get the benefit of your dog having wonderful people to walk him/her but also the benefit of Sebastian's wisdom and guidance on what to do with those little challenges that come up day by day when raising a pup. We recently went to Europe and Dewey boarded with A Dog's Way and it was all fantastic. He came home so happy and in such great shape. We are very grateful to A Dog's Way for helping us raise Dewey in this first important year of his life and look forward to many more years with Sebastian and team to come! Highly recommend!

Very reliable and very accommodating. Been taking care of my7 month American Bully since he was approx 3 months. I'm very satisfied with the service, and this is coming from a former dog of roughly 8 years. When I'm at work I have peace of mind concerning my pup because I know he's in good hands.Omar - Bedstuy
Servicing Long Island and NYC We speak dog! And just as important, we love dogs. Top Dog Training provides personalized training for any dog, any age, any problem. We are training and behavioral specialists, providing basic and advanced dog training through positive reinforcement. We only use positive dog training methods. That means your dog will always be treated kindly with us. Happy voices, treats, and repetition are the only ways to train. We consider punishment and unnecessary devices such as prong or shock collars to be archaic. We believe in teaching dog owners to impart simple, effective, time-efficient and cruelty-free techniques that work alongside every dog's natural instincts.
Working with dogs is clearly what I love most about this job, which I would not call a job as I don't feel like I work a day in my life. I also enjoy seeing the results from my work, and the smile on the owners' faces when they see the completed work.
I have worked in corporate america and had my own businesses through the years, but I never really found my passion until I started working with dogs at a nearby animal shelter. It wasn't long before I realized that dog training was my destiny.
I believe I am a natural dog whisperer – there is no other way to put it. The smile on myface as I train shows that I care deeply about the well-being of all dogs, and will make your dog happy and comfortable to be trained.
I have had many dogs of my own over the years, and trained each using only positive method techniques. I have had great success training dogs of all breeds, ages, sizes, and genetic backgrounds, and have developed a knack for solving the problems of difficult dogs, whether they are in NYC, Great Neck, or Huntington.
Of course, my pedigree includes certification from a top dog training school, the International School for Certified Dog Trainers (ISCDT). I am also a graduate of Brandon McMillan’s Master Class.
I service a broad area, including Long Island, Queens, Bronx, and Manhattan. I also provide online dog training.
I am vaccinated and have had my booster shot. I always wear a mask.
Why should I get a Dog Trainer?
Making sure your pup is trained properly really matters. Without the necessary groundwork, you’re risking your dog’s wellness and security, as well as the safety of any other dogs it comes into contact with. It’s also important your dog is trained so that it can integrate properly with you and your family. Keeping it out of trouble will save you a lot of hassle (and potentially costly repairs too).
Making sure your dog listens to commands is very important. Not only will handling it be less stressful, but it can stop dangerous conflict with other animals. Furthermore, if your dog doesn’t want to listen to you, situations such as dealing with traffic can potentially become fatal. On the upside, having a well-trained pup enables you and your pet to socialise properly with other dogs and their owners.
Having a dog that is obedient means that life around the home becomes plain sailing. With good manners, your dog will be able to tell the difference between right and wrong behaviour, while being able to foster good relationships with other members of your family. These connections can help to build a fruitful relationship with your pet as part of the family. Time well spent together will allow you to both grow together, sharing experiences and creating the type of memories that make having a pet so worth it.
How about becoming an authority figure yourself? Although your trainer will help your dog get up to scratch, they will also teach you a great deal about the fundamentals of dog training. This includes not only how to handle your own dog, but principals that you can use to understand and better interact with other dogs too. Being able to help out less-informed dog owners can be a wonderful gift to have, and something that you can take further if you enjoy it.
Having a well-trained dog also means that taking your pet to the veterinarian will be a lot easier than it would be otherwise. Considering the nature and volume of work that they have to do, being a vet is tough, let alone dealing with an uncooperative pet in their surgery. In some cases, dogs can become violent when approached by a vet – definitely something they don’t need. By having your dog properly trained, you can avoid injuries – for both your dog and your vet – as well as unnecessary embarrassment upon visits.
How do I pick a Dog Trainer?
When hiring someone to train your dog, there is plenty to think about. The needs of both you and your pet have to be considered and so taking some time to sit down and work out what is important to you is a must. Down below are a few of the questions you might ask when it comes to finding the right dog trainer –
Should I go for group or private training? Each comes with pros and cons – those with a brand new dog can expect their pet to socialise and start to develop relationships with other dogs.
Does my dog need generalised training or would training in a specific area suit it better? One example of this is if your dog has an issue with barking, or separation anxiety. In these cases, someone that can specialise in tackling these issues would be optimal.
Do I need long-term training or do I need a quick fix? Goals such as conditioning your dog for agility or developing a routine will need more time with a trainer.
You should also take care to see what type of strategies your trainer uses. There are a wide variety of techniques that can be applied in order to change your dog’s behaviour – but not all of these involve kindness and care. It’s good to talk to prospective trainers about the ways in which they choose to teach your dog, including methods of both discipline and praise. Techniques such as positive reinforcement are very beneficial for dogs and are particularly powerful, while being enjoyable for them.
While your dog is your priority, how you communicate with your trainer is important too. Your trainer’s should be able to translate their understanding into constructive advice. A good trainer can tell you both what is working in terms of training your dog, and what isn’t. This includes passing on insights of what to do to correct certain issues, while conveying these ideas in a constructive, friendly way. In order to do this, a trainer needs to not only be able to express themselves clearly, but also be diplomatic and observant.
How much does a Dog Trainer cost?
There are various ways in which you can choose to train your dog. Some owners opt for private lessons, while others will put their dog through group daycare.
Group sessions are valuable not only because they are more budget friendly, but also because they are better as a long-term option. This is because your pet will have time to get to grips with a wider variety of commands. However one-on-one training provides your dog with lessons that are specially tailored to their needs, helping them learn in the best way for them.
There are also the various levels of obedience training to take into account. As well as classes specifically for puppies, there are basic educational classes, adult training, agility and advanced tutoring. Which of these you go for can affect pricing, as well as how quickly your dog learns (depending on its needs and comprehension).
Can I hire a Dog Trainer online?
Yes! You might be surprised to hear that dog training can be done remotely, through online video platforms like Zoom. They can take the form of group sessions or one-to-one classes to tackle certain individual behavioural issues. Many customers prefer online dog training for all sorts of reasons, like saving on travel time and costs.
