What’s your interior design process?

Every project begins with a Design Review — a focused conversation about the space, the brief, and what the project needs to achieve. This is where we establish scope, priorities, and whether there’s alignment before moving forward.

From there, the process moves through concept development, material and finish selection, procurement, and project oversight through to completion. The level of involvement is calibrated to each project.

Studio Joelle works across hospitality, residential, and commercial projects. Engagements are selective.

Which interior design styles can you cater for?

The work is not defined by a single style. It is defined by the project — its location, its use, its client, and what it needs to communicate.

Across 25 years of practice, the studio has worked in contemporary, transitional, mid-century, and classically influenced interiors and private residences.

Hospitality projects demand a different sensibility than a private residence. A law firm reads differently than a restaurant.

What stays consistent is the approach: materials-led, spatially considered, and built around a clear point of view for each project.

What do you love most about your job?

The moment a space stops being a floor plan and becomes a place.

That shift — when materials, light, proportion, and use come together — is what the work is really about.

After 25 years across hospitality, residential, and commercial projects, that still doesn't get routine. Every project has a different brief, a different client, a different set of constraints. Finding the right answer within those constraints is what makes the work interesting.

The projects I find most rewarding are the ones where design does real work — where a hotel lobby changes how guests feel when they arrive, or a residence finally fits the life being lived in it.

Why should our clients choose you?

25 years of practice. Published in Dezeen, Architizer, and Archello. Jury member for the World's Best Hotel Awards. Trained at Istituto Marangoni in Milan.

The studio works across hospitality, residential, and commercial projects in New York City and worldwide. The work is materials-led, spatially considered, and built around a clear point of view for each project.

Engagements are selective. That selectivity is what protects the quality of the work — and the experience of working with the studio.

Clients who are the right fit know it quickly. A Design Review is where that conversation begins: studiojoelle.com/work-with-me.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Training at Istituto Marangoni in Milan set a standard. Working independently was the only way to maintain it.

Running a studio means full control over which projects to take, how deeply to engage, and what the work actually looks like. That selectivity is what allows the quality to stay consistent across hospitality, residential, and commercial projects.

The work is published in Dezeen, Architizer, and Archello. The clients are serious. The projects are worth doing

Twenty-five years in, the decision still makes sense.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes. A significant portion of Studio Joelle's work is delivered remotely or with limited on-site presence, particularly for clients outside New York City.

The process is the same regardless of location — Design Review, concept development, material and finish selection, procurement, and oversight through to completion. Remote delivery is structured, not abbreviated.

For international projects and clients outside the NYC metro area, the studio works through a combination of video consultations, detailed documentation, and trusted local contractors where needed.
