214 Dogs

Hi, my name is Alia Bailey, founder of 214 Dogs. In 2007, I became a pet parent (owner). My pup's name was Soccer, and I quickly fell in love with her. I wanted to give her the best care possible. I grew up with very well-behaved German Shepherds, so getting her trained wasn’t even a question. I signed her up for classes at my local pet store before she even came home to me. I was quickly disappointed by the training I received. From there, I looked into different places to get her “re-trained,” I tried a few and realized that I could not find anything that fit my needs. So I contacted my mom, the only “authority” I knew on dog training. I explained that no public, private, or in-home trainers trailed the way our German Shepherds were trained. My mom still had everything from the pet training my childhood pups received, and through that, I started getting Soccer trained. I then noticed that so many friends or people I met had the same need I had, and this led me to find a mentor who lived in New Zealand and used the same training style I was using. From there, I started my career in dog training. I have been successfully training dogs for 15 years now using a style of training that works for every dog. I train every pup like it is my pup. I give you, the pup parent, the skills to ensure the training is successful. I create a plan with you based on your particular pups' needs; your family's need, and your circumstances. 90% of every pup we train is trained in the comfort of your own home. Your dog needs to be in their environment because that’s where they spend their time bonding, learning, playing, and relaxing. As required, we will do car rides, trips to the store or park, etc. We will even do overnight stays at my house if this is an issue you face. The other 10% of the time, pet parents might find themselves in a position where the pup cannot be trained at home. In this case, your dog can be trained at our place. The training is just as successful regardless of the location. The success will depend on you. As noted above, our training is custom, but most pups have the basics down in 4 to 8 weeks. During these 4 to 8 weeks, we work with you and your dog, and in between visits, we text, email, and call you (or you may contact us) to ensure that things are going smoothly each day. Our 4 to 8 weeks training lays the foundation for your pup. Training a dog entirely takes a full year of consistency. At 214 Dogs, we know your pup's success is our success. We stay with you an entire year to ensure your pup stays on track. What about after the year is up? Every pup graduates from our program with lifetime support. You can learn more about this on our website. Call us at 214-214-DOGS (3647) for a free phone consultation today and get your pup started on the road to being a well-behaved dog. I look forward to talking with you.

What do you love most about your job?

I love watching a pet parent learn what their dog already knows, "the dog laws."
All dogs live by a set of rules or laws. As humans, we try to apply human psychology or thinking to our dog's behavior. Most of the time, this leaves us with an unruly pup. But once a pet parent understands the rules that their dog lives by, the laws they were created already knowing, only then can they truly begin to know, understand, love, and train their dog.
Watching this transformation is amazing every time!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I tried various types of dog training with my pup, "Soccer." I always walked away feeling defeated. Soccer knew many commands but still had severe separation anxiety. One trainer even told me that there was nothing that could be done. After hearing this, I was even more determined not to give up; I searched until I found a trainer who acted as if her behavior was an easy fix.
Once he taught me the psychology of dogs (dogology), I was so excited that I told all my friends who asked me to teach them. From there, my teacher taught me how to be a dog trainer, and I graduated from his program with a renewed love of dogs and a deep understanding of what makes them tick and how to help any dog with any issue. Dog training became my passion.

Why should our clients choose you?

We put your pup's needs before training. We take the time to learn your pup and win their mind over using dog psychology. We then help you learn how to apply this approach to your dog. Once you win a dog's mind, training comes easy and natural for them. Learning the commands is something they will want to do as they learn to communicate with you and build a strong, lasting relationship that will improve their quality of life.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes. If the pet parent is ill or needs to reschedule, we are always willing to do this in-person or online using a tool like Zoom. We also offer remote or online sessions at a reduced rate for pet parents who prefer online or remote training.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

If your trainer is sick or has a fever, we notify you immediately and will reschedule if needed. Our pet parents need to be as healthy as possible so they can devote as much time as possible to their pups. Safety for our pet parents & their dog always comes first.
