We partnered with Overwatch Academy to get some much-needed help with our two rescue pups: Fitz, a 7-year-old Australian Shepherd mix, and Farfle, a 5-year-old Miniature Poodle mix. Fitz is a gentle, laid-back guy who loves nothing more than a cozy nap, a cuddle on the couch, and a leisurely walk. But beneath his mellow exterior, he struggled with separation anxiety and, let’s just say, selective hearing. Meanwhile, Farfle—our spirited little “bark-a-holic”—had a vocal reaction to just about everything: people walking outside, guests entering the house, even someone simply standing up in the same room. His high-pitched barks filled the air day and night.
Neither dog had been crate-trained, and both were starting to exhibit destructive behavior whenever we left the house. We knew we needed guidance.
That’s when we found Overwatch Academy—and we’re so glad we did. From the very first interaction, the process was seamless and supportive. We were able to get ont he schedule within a few weeks. Lucy, our trainer, came directly to our home for both pickup and drop-off, making everything incredibly easy and stress-free. While the boys were gone, we received daily updates with pictures and YouTube montages. Additionally, when it was time to schedule the end of their stay, Lucy was more than flexible, even though I had an unplanned work trip pop up.
When Fitz and Farfle returned from their training “vacation,” the transformation was clear. They came back not just better behaved, but genuinely calmer, confident, and centered. For the first time, there was a real structure in place—rules they understood and boundaries they respected. Farfle still has his spunky personality, but he now communicates in much quieter, more manageable ways. His barking, once constant and overwhelming, is now under control. Fitz, meanwhile, has become more secure and responsive, and the separation anxiety isn't an issue.
Both dogs are now fully crate trained and enjoy having their own cozy spaces. Our home feels more peaceful, and our daily routine is calm and predictable. We hadn’t fully realized how much low-level stress we were living with—caused by barking, destroyed items, or simply feeling unsure how to help our dogs thrive. Having met our new and improved dogs makes me understand that even though our pups knew tricks and were generally well-behaved, they didn't have the structure they needed.
Working with Lucy was a gift. Her passion for rescue dogs shines through in everything she does, and she has a genuine heart for helping both animals and their humans. She’s already planning to support more rescues in the future to help get adopted. Those dogs are lucky to have her.

We had an excellent experience with Smitty and his training. We have a 6 month Cane Corso. I am not new to the breed as this is my third over the last 15 years. I know this breed very well so by the time he was about 12 weeks old, I could tell he was much more headstrong and stubborn than my first two. I knew I needed more than just my knowledge to train him. Smitty trains not only the dog, but the owner as well so you and your pet are always on the same page. Our pup definitely showed his stubborn side but Smitty never gave up on him and we worked through until our little guy finally got it. Now he’s much better behaved, is calmer around visitors, and has much better manners overall. We highly recommend Smitty to train your puppy!
