What do you love most about your job?

Applied Ergonomics is more than just me, but it is a reflection of my values. I love that we get to be all business and entirely creative. I love that we get to positively impact our clients' organizations, helping them to have successful projects that end up making their employees feel valued, healthier and more productive, helping their organization better reflect its aspirations, and helping their customers feel more confident in working with them. I love further that we get to promote ergonomic knowledge and sustainability in what we choose to specify, two of my core values.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I started this journey 35 years ago, working for a company that pioneered computer ergonomics. That company did not survive, and I started Applied Ergonomics to continue the work. We immediately grew into a full contract furniture dealership, with design services and ergonomic consulting as well.

Why should our clients choose you?

Bark clients should choose to work with us because we bring expertise and passion to every job. We know that our clients have limited experience and actual full-time jobs, yet are responsible for great outcomes that can't get a do-over. We give you a single point of contact, or at least a point of coordination who can direct your other contractors, and can provide design, products and installation as you need. We have a team of designers and other professionals on staff, and a network of great installers all over the US. We currently have as many jobs around the US as in the Chicago market, which is our home base.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

We can work in-person in the Chicago area easily, and we're able to travel to jobs as needed. Most of our jobs around the country are able to be handled remotely with video meetings, but I'm happy to travel to meet with you. Since in 30 years, I have yet to be given an accurate drawing, we have our local installers serve as our eyes on the ground to confirm site conditions in the planning stage. I might add, this is not standard practice in the industry, so it is actually a big advantage to ensure a good outcome. We do often fly in to oversee installations, as well.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

In 2023, we are not yet past Covid, yet most precautions have been relaxed. We ask that anyone we send onsite is vaccinated and is respectful of the clients' wishes. Masks can be worn at the customer's request (and are mandatory in healthcare settings). Covid certainly has changed the design of workplaces as well, and we have been thought leaders in that arena since the pandemic started.

Very nice Lorenzo wooden chairs. We liked them so much that we ordered twice, 20 the first time and 40 the second. Both orders were delivered within the quoted timeframe. Packaging was good and the sales agents that we spoke to were nice, patient and polite both times. Thanks for a great buying experience.

Highly recommend! They are so creative, easy to work with and great at trouble shooting any issues that come up along the way. They helped design our website and also came up with some really concepts for our next venture, the Dog Tired Ranch Boarding and Training facility.
