Bob Caceres DJ'd for my wedding recently. I interviewed 3 DJ's, and of these, Bob was definitely the best choice. Before the wedding, you'll find you need to communicate lots of information with your vendors, and it's extremely helpful when they are responsive. Bob was willing to meet me and took the time to answer all of my questions. He exuded competence and came with a rave reference. Bob provided me with all the information I needed, and he did not complain when I provided the information he'd asked for in an e-mail rather than the provided form (which I'd misplaced). In addition, in the leadup to the wedding, Bob responded within 24 hours to every e-mail or phone call I made.
At the wedding, I thought Bob did a good job. The night was a blur, but I noticed the music playing at different times during the night reflected our requests. He was not an "in-your-face" DJ. Generally speaking, he mostly just played music as opposed to dominating the wedding and making lots of announcements. That's basically what we wanted. If you're looking for a really dominant DJ, Bob might not be the best choice, but I thought he did a good job.
My only complaint surrounds payment. I discussed payment with Bob on the Thursday before the wedding, and I thought we were in agreement that he would invoice us after the wedding for the balance. Instead, he demanded payment the night of. This was, in my opinion, somewhat classless. It was inconvenient and embarrassing running around looking for a checkbook the night of the wedding. Had I known he'd want to be paid the night of the event, I would have paid him in advance. In fairness to him, this is stated in the contract. However, I did not read the contract due to having discussed this verbally shortly before the event and agreeing on payment the week after. I suggest making very clear arrangements with Bob on this point. I considered reducing the rating to 3 stars because of this, but I think anyone else using Bob as

Frist, working with my clients on what is important to them and their guest for their dance music and what brings up their energy is important to find out. Since most events have different age groups, it's important to work to make sure some music gets played for all ages so everyone enjoys some of the music and gets a chance to get up and dance.
Second, I have a DJ worksheet to find out what music my clients want during all different phases of their event. This way we are both on the same page when it comes to what they want and doesn't want at their event.
Third, I've been a DJ for 14 years so I have folders of songs that are popular for different types of music over the years. These are songs that "get people up on the floor and dance" based on the types of music my clients and their guest are requesting.
Fourth, I take request from guest and I work at tailoring each client's music before their event so they get the music they want and don't get the music they don't want to be played.
Fifth, I subscribe to two DJ services so I can keep my music update so I can find most current songs for my clients. I can also find the "clean" version of most songs. Even though this coast me extra music over the year, it's worth it to me to make sure my clients are getting the music they want.
A style is hard to describe other than flexible, relaxed, and fun to work with.
It's important to me that my clients get the experience they want for their event.
I'm not a club DJ, and I primarily do weddings, so if someone mainly wanted Rap / Hip-Hop without a mix of other styles. I'm not their DJ.
I can get Hip-Hop and Rap music, but weddings usually have guests that listening to just this style is not their cup of tea, and I feel it's not fair to them to make them listen to hours of music they don't enjoy when coming to someone's wedding.
I only have a rule about no beverages on the DJ table. Liquid and electronics do not mix and could end the party with one spill, and if I have a gig the next night, most likely that night also.
I love being a DJ, I love being around people, and I love music. It’s a labor of love for me. From the time I talk with people about their event and what music they want for themselves and their guests until it’s time to break down my equipment and go home.
Weddings are my favorite. Everyone is so excited. Don’t get me wrong, all events are lovely to do, and I enjoy them all. If needed, I can wear a mask if this makes my clients feel more comfortable.
Also, wiping down mics when used by the wedding party and changing mic covers is important.
Also, use a DJ request sheet and wipe down the pen that is used by guests when making requests or we can use text messages when making requests for songs for dancing.
