Hausfrau Catering

From intimate, elegant dinner parties of various cuisine styles and fully customized menus to German-themed food and events, Hausfrau is here for you! My painstakingly thoughtful curation of the best ingredients, decor, and vendors pays off for me when I trigger your happy memories of the past and help you create new ones. Seeing my clients' family and friends gathered around the table with exquisite food and drink -- maybe with a fun theme -- singing, laughing & dancing, chatting & toasting *cheers* with glasses in the air is why catering is my passion. I do not just drop off disposable pans of food and leave you to figure it all out. I run the kitchen so you enjoy the party with your guests. I make sure everything is stocked and refilled, hot and crisp, fried to order, and chef-plated with garnish on white china. We set up, take care of everything during the event, and clean up...while you drink wine. Your kitchen should be cleaner after we leave! I refuse to drop off soggy food which will only further lose quality over sterno in chafing dishes. Book with my team and taste the difference! I'll show you what the untranslatable German concept of "Gemütlichkeit" is about, whether you order Bavarian food or create a custom menu of your preferred cuisine style. I live to travel and learned a lot from my time in Europe and the Caribbean to share with you. I love all ethnic foods from Puerto Rican to Korean to Northern Italian to Jamaican, so let's start planning a party to transport you around the world without leaving your dining room... My focus is on quality versus mass-produced bland foods, of which my Oma would never approve and I cannot be proud. I aim to serve food that tastes like grandma has been preparing it for days, the old-fashioned way her family has for generations. My ingredients are as organic and natural as possible, avoiding the common, cheap, chemical-laden options. I do not subcontract out my events, so I will be with you every step of the way from planning to the event day. I support local businesses and bring you the best of my area's farmers to your table. I offer food and events that nourish your soul as well as your body, and exceed your expectations. Your guests will be left with unforgettable memories! Pricing: My small event minumum is $500. Dinner parties of 5-10 are about $100 per person. Full service events with multiple courses, 8 hours of staff (chefs, bar, and servers), and some extras like day of coordinator, florals, china, linens, tables, chairs, etc are on average $8000 minimum or $35 per person for just food.

What’s your signature dish?

Anything made with love, bacon fat, onions, and garlic!

I enjoy offering my clients Pork Medallions in a Mushroom Cream Sauce over haus-made Spätzle. The pork is tender, cooked medium. The sauce is familiar and full of umami. Simple ingredients come together in this crowd-pleasing dish that few people recognize as German. Two secret ingredients make you feel like you're back in a German gasthaus. Paired with a nice vegetable, this dish is hearty meal that impresses everyone from German travelers to diners with the basic American palate. Better still, this would be accompanied by a side of my Oma's braised blaukraut/rotkohl. Even people who aren't fans of cabbage are converted! I enjoy sharing dishes that push beyond the common stereotypes of German cuisine.

But my repeat clients keep having me back for my hand-breaded schnitzel with jäger gravy!

How do you go about creating the perfect menu for your clients?

I listen carefully to their dietary restrictions, allergies, food preferences and aversions. I hear their overall vision for the event and ideal budget. I send over a list of options for each course that fit the bill, complete with photos. I'm happy to answer any questions about preparation method and ingredients as well as how the food would hold or be finished at their venue, to ensure we don't lose quality. We make selections and fine tune from there.

I like a balance between familiar favorites, elevated and new options and flavors to excite the palate.

I can even prepare separate custom entrees for vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian guests.

What do you love most about your job?

My painstakingly thoughtful curation of the best ingredients, decor, and vendors pays off for me when I trigger your happy memories of the past and help you create new ones. Seeing my clients' family and friends gathered around the table with exquisite food and drink -- maybe with a fun theme -- singing, laughing & dancing, chatting & toasting *cheers* with glasses in the air is why catering is my passion.

I had the best time around my Grandparents' table with their bier-drinking records to sing along to...and enjoyed every moment of my trip to Oktoberfest in Munich. When guests say -- with a tear in their eye or lump in their throat -- that they haven't had food like this since childhood or while on their travels/duty stations, my heart swells with such pride and happiness.

What inspired you to start your own business?

German food and culture is often poorly represented in the US, struggling to overcome stereotypes of inauthentic bratwurst, commercial canned kraut, and bland gravy that tastes like...brown--yuck. German restaurants and social clubs are closing by the day and become harder to find.

I don't want my heritage to die out because younger generations don't find German food and drink to be hip or trendy. They are classic for a reason, from Reinheitsgebot purity in brewing to Germany having the highest number of Michelin-star restaurants only second to France! I often interact with socially and work for the best Omas & Opas who pass on their experience and tips so we can span generations. I prepare fresh food that would make my grandparents proud while overcoming stereotypes.

I don't know of any authentic German caterers in the area, and few companies offer the level of royal treatment that I have learned from over 15 years in the industry.

Outside of the German aspects, I have been mentored for years by CIA trained chefs and experts in the Front and Back of House over the years. Family and friends kept pushing me to have a restaurant or business of my own, and finally, I needed greater flexibility for family and traveling.

Why should our clients choose you?

I know the common pitfalls that happen at catered events, and I work to prevent them from happening. I make sure you don't struggle with trying to get yourself and home or venue ready, while entertaining guests, and also trying to (re)heat food, set the table, restock, pour wine, etc. Our crew runs around all night so you don't have to!

Food for parties doesn't have to be full of instant ingredients, chemicals, and other unsavory shortcuts and sloppy bulk presentation. I expect stellar food when I go out or to events, and that is what I make and eat. Instant mashed potatoes, cans of cheese sauce, overcooked steaks, flavorless dry chicken breast, canned vegetables (all of which I have seen in the industry)...no thanks!

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can offer virtual cooking classes and demonstrations, even sending ingredient lists or kits to all of your attendees. If you don't have a kitchen available at your event venue, I have a 20' mobile commercial kitchen that is fully inspected and insured.
