I am an experienced counselor with a certification in life coaching. I have a passion for assisting my clients in moving towards their goals of being their best and authentic selves. I am the clients' best cheerleader and I work to empower them to achieve a more satisfying life. I bring wisdom and astuteness to the coaching relationship while challenging and motivating the client to consider various perspectives.
As a teacher, I'm keenly invested in the progress of my students. Each lesson is individually crafted, and I pull from a wide range of songs, activities, and approaches. Every person is unique, and my goal is to support everyone in finding their own best way to express themselves musically, through playing well and musical independence.
I see my job as serving as a guide while students travel their personal journey of self-expression through music. I am honored to support students in building skills and discovering abilities they never dreamed they'd have.
My teaching is student guided. I listen to what my students express in terms of interests and needs, and I also observe their behaviors, playing, and body language. All instructional decisions are made based on how to student responds to activities and interactions.
I can, and do. I never dreamed of being a remote teacher, but in 2017, an opportunity opened up to me. I discovered that teaching via live conference calls could be very productive. It's important to have a creative teacher who is willing to invest in the correct tools, services, and always seeking to improve. For my online lessons, I utilize a specialized streaming service. It was specifically designed for music lessons, and is SUPER easy for students, whether adults or kids. I use multiple cameras so students can easily see my face, hands, arms, and fingers. I use a combination of teacher-developed materials and a variety of activities to support students in all aspects of musical learning.
Ironically, I was already teaching online when Covid-19 became an issue. At first, the biggest change was shifting all of my personal normally-not-online activities to being online, at times that I had already dedicated to my students. But we all figured it out. Now, I have a "hybrid studio," meaning that I have both in-person and online students. Online lessons remain an option for my in-person students for any type of illness, or if they simply can't make it to my studio and still want to have their lesson.
