About

As a teacher, I'm keenly invested in the progress of my students. Each lesson is individually crafted, and I pull from a wide range of songs, activities, and approaches. Every person is unique, and my goal is to support everyone in finding their own best way to express themselves musically, through playing well and musical independence.

Sandra is an amazing instructor. Taking on a new hobby as an adult is both challenging and rewarding. Sandra style of teaching is encouraging, she always gives great feedback and techniques of ways to improve. The class being offered via face time is an added bonus to accommodate my busy lifestyle. Overall, this has been an exciting experience. I strongly recommend Sandra, she's experienced and professional great for all ages! More...

Great piano teacher. I feel so lucky to have found her. We have weekly lessons - online. I was a bit skeptical of online lessons at first, but it has worked out great. She gives me access to lots of music that I would have had to pay for otherwise. Everyweek after our lesson, she sends me notes on the lesson. These notes are extremely helpful to me for the next week's practice. More...

Sandra is a fantastic piano teacher. I am an adult student who last took piano lessons over thirty years ago. I feel very fortunate to have found Sandra. I was somewhat skeptical of online lessons, but they have worked out great. She is very patient with me - especially on weeks when I have not practiced the way I should! She's the best and I would recommend her to anyone! More...

I should start by saying I am an intermediate recreational ukulele player. I felt I was at a plateau and needed some additional help. I found Sandra Girouard through the James Hill Ukulele Initiative (JHUI) website as she is a graduate of that teacher training program. I signed up for a time to meet her online which is free. I found her quite knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. I was impressed that she asked me how she could help me and with that we set a plan. Sandra is very supportive and made me feel comfortable playing for her. Her teaching style is relaxed, informative and always positive. I feel like I learn something new at every lesson and I am now progressing again. Now after just nine, 30 minute lessons, I have decided to move to 60 minute lessons. I can honestly say I'm glad I gave her a call. She is a good fit for me. More...

We were so fortunate to find Ms Sandra. The girls absolutely adore her. The three girls have shown so much growth in our time with her. She is unbelievably patient (one of our children has ADHD) and kind and makes them laugh all the time. Our youngest Cordelia would like me to tell you that - "Ms Sandra is very patient when I am trying to get the right note. When I make a mistake, she always helps me fix it. She even labels some of the notes when I have trouble remembering them. There are some notes I still don't know yet, but I know she will teach me." Aryanna would like you to know that - "Ms. Sandra is a sweet, caring, optimistic, and positive person. I really liked learning the holiday songs with her." Josephine would like to say that - " she is really good at teaching us how to play music and the best music teacher I've ever had." More...

My wife bought me a ukulele for Christmas. Being 50 years old with no music background, I was worried I could not learn an instrument this late in life. Sandra is a great teacher. She is patient and she is an exceptional encourager. Also, with assignments, she knows exactly what you need for the next step in your journey. Besides learning your specific instrument, the music theory that she teaches will carry over to all instruments. The amount of knowledge she pours into you, is astounding. More...

My son has taken recorder classes with Miss Sandra for a couple of years now. He's enjoyed what he learned so much that he has expressed interest in her ukulele classes as well. She's very patient with how shy he can be and very supportive with his questions. She also helps us through technical questions with amazing customer service. I'm not seeing where we leave stars! But when I find it it's five stars all the way!😁 More...

Q&As

I see my job as serving as a guide while students travel their personal journey of self-expression through music. I am honored to support students in building skills and discovering abilities they never dreamed they'd have.

My teaching is student guided. I listen to what my students express in terms of interests and needs, and I also observe their behaviors, playing, and body language. All instructional decisions are made based on how to student responds to activities and interactions.

I can, and do. I never dreamed of being a remote teacher, but in 2017, an opportunity opened up to me. I discovered that teaching via live conference calls could be very productive. It's important to have a creative teacher who is willing to invest in the correct tools, services, and always seeking to improve. For my online lessons, I utilize a specialized streaming service. It was specifically designed for music lessons, and is SUPER easy for students, whether adults or kids. I use multiple cameras so students can easily see my face, hands, arms, and fingers. I use a combination of teacher-developed materials and a variety of activities to support students in all aspects of musical learning.

Ironically, I was already teaching online when Covid-19 became an issue. At first, the biggest change was shifting all of my personal normally-not-online activities to being online, at times that I had already dedicated to my students. But we all figured it out. Now, I have a "hybrid studio," meaning that I have both in-person and online students. Online lessons remain an option for my in-person students for any type of illness, or if they simply can't make it to my studio and still want to have their lesson.
