Joseph Giamarese and Vivian Hung, founders and principal designers of Global Home, are a married globetrotting duo whose world-wide journeys have inspired their aesthetic and business acumen. What started as an eighteen month expedition around the world, grew into Global Home. Founded in 2003, Global Home is a brand which has encompassed several home furnishing stores, an online retail property, and an acclaimed Interior Design firm featured in many domestic and international publications such as the New York Times, Aspire Home and Design, New York Spaces, Decorations Singapore and many others. Joseph and Vivian were also featured on a segment of NBC Open House TV. The Global Home aesthetic is a textural and multi-layered, internationally-inspired experience which can best be described as “curated maximalism”. That said, Global Home takes an individual approach to each project, listening intently to the requirements of each client, understanding how they live and how their space is used. Joseph and Vivian prefer the final product feel organically assembled over time rather than “designed”. While our projects usually have our definitive Global Home “stamp”, the final result always feels like it belongs exclusively to our client. Our typical project is a custom designed residence for a high-profile private client but Global Home also designs boutique hospitality spaces. Based in the New York City area, Global Home Interior Design services all of NYC and its surrounding areas, New Jersey, the greater Philadelphia area, and select projects throughout the United States and around the world.

What’s your interior design process?

Global Home Interior Design's design process and billing scheduling:
1. INTRODUCTORY PHONE CALL-Every project and client is different so this first call is a great indicator of whether or not we are a good match. If all goes well, a questionnaire is sent over to be filled out before our site visit. (Complimentary)

2. PROJECT SITE VISIT- On-site visit to discuss goals, needs, desires and budget in the actual space. We gather notes on how to best tackle your project and schedule a follow-up meeting.
(Consultation Fee-$500)

3. FOLLOW-UP MEETING- An estimated budget proposal is presented as well as a services contract outlining the proposed scope of work. Once contract signed, budget agreed upon and 50% design fee paid, the fun begins!

4. DESIGN REVEAL MEETINGS-Multiple meetings to present of detailed design plans which included, elevations, paint swatches, fabric selections, wallpaper samples, product specifications, etc. Stage by stage, we get your approval until your vision is complete.

5. PURCHASING ROAD MAP- We gather all the selections for client's full approval. Once we get sign off, we require 100% of payments to implement the purchasing. If renovations are required for the project, GHID will coordinate with the client's contractors and sub-contractors.

6. PRODUCTION- Selections are ordered and produced if custom-made. These are shipped to one of GHID's NJ warehouses for safekeeping.

7. RENOVATION (if applicable)- While orders are being processed, renovation of the job site will occur. If hired to do, GHID will act as the project manager for the client, working closely with the contractors and subs to implement the job. This is billed hourly.
(Project management fees billed monthly)

8. INSTALLATION/REVEAL- When 80-90% of the selections have passed quality control in the warehouse, GHID will schedule the install. This usually takes a full day and we ask the client not be present. (Any outstanding invoices due prior to install)

9. SECONDARY INSTALLATION- The remaining selections and any extra accessories we might suggest to complete the project will be installed.

10. PROJECT REVIEW MEETING- GHID and CLIENT discuss the overall project process, our successes and misses as well as potential next steps for another phase of the project. GHID often continues projects with CLIENTS for many years and other projects.

Contemporary, modern, international design styles. We never want to design spaces that feel decorated or matchy-matchy. Our overall goal is to create spaces that feel like they have organically evolved over time, capturing our clients' life journey in their homes.

What do you love most about your job?

Being able to create beautiful spaces in which they serve as the back drop for the wonderful memories made by our clients and their families.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After years in executive positions in corporate advertising and media publishing in New York City, we knew we need to find another path. We quit our jobs, sold all our belongings and traveled around the world for 18 months. We came back with the clarity that we needed to start our own business and launched Global Home. Over 15 years later, we have had multiple retail stores, have a thriving e-commerce website and our interior design services firm.

We feel very fortunate everyday that we are able to do what we love making spaces that our clients love.
