Hello! My name is Joel and I am excited to be able to tutor and teach you, as I have done with hundreds of other students. I began tutoring in college, where I double majored in Spanish and Sociology. I enjoyed teaching so much that I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as Teaching Licenses for ESL, Spanish, and a TESOL Certification. While completing my graduate program, I also received an Education Award for an essay I wrote about the benefits of education.
I want to use my experiences to help even more students achieve success, so I started Learn Now Learn Well! As a general rule, I follow these three principles: feedback, goal-tracking, and reflection. I encourage students to do the same, to ensure they are achieving their goals and on the right path to success.
English as a Second Language - I received my Teaching License for ESL in 2010 and currently hold a TESOL Certificate. With over 10 years of teaching experience, I have taught grammar, vocabulary, listening/speaking, reading/writing, note-taking, and essay writing. I also taught a Professional Presentations course for several years, focusing on presentation development, public speaking and utilizing technology to give presentations.
Spanish - I also received my Teaching License for Spanish in 2010 and have tutored and taught Spanish for several years. I have taught reading/writing, listening/speaking, vocabulary and common phrases and slang to students of all ages. I studied in Madrid while in college and am familiar with both Mexican and Spanish phrases and vocabulary words. Moreover, many of the students I have tutored English to speak Spanish, so I have learned new methods of being able to teach Spanish to English-speakers.
Career Coaching - I worked in a Career Services Department in a university setting, focusing on student career development and employer outreach. I assisted students with resume/cover letter writing, mock interviews, career and job exploration, and personality assessments. I also presented a webinar about the benefits of LinkedIn, and helped create resume-building modules. In addition, I have experience talking with recruiters, human resource specialists and hiring managers, which has given me unique insight in to what employers are looking for in a candidate.
