Helen Batten

Passionate, kind and very patient teacher offering extra lessons / catch up / exam preparation especially catering to Grade 6 and 7 which are the Grades I currently teach at a private academy in Ruimsig, but I can also tutor Grades 4 and 5 as well. I offer extra lessons in Maths, English, Natural Science and Social Sciences. I am also a certified Level 5 TEFL English Foreign / Second language teacher to all ages of students from young children to adults. Having qualified as a Senior Paralegal some years ago, I am also able to assist adult students with Business English classes if required. I am able to do face to face tutoring in Honedew, Randparkridge, Weltevreden Park, Fairlands, Northcliff, Cresta, Linden, Blairgowrie and Craighall Park. Other areas would require on-line sessions. I have a dedicated work space with decent internet connectivity and provided the student has a decent internet connection as well, remote/on-line tutoring can sometimes be a great alternative.

What do you love most about your job?

I love waking up in the morning and going to teach. Knowing that it is me who inspires these kids to want to learn is the most incredible feeling and one that I undertake with great responsibility.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I became tired of the 9 - 5 rat race in the corporate world. The pandemic showed me that it is so important to follow your heart and do what you love because life is so fragile.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am very patient, very energetic and very kind. I believe kids should be taught with love and patience, it's what they respond best to and what brings out their abilities and their unique personalities.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, I have a dedicated work space (classroom) with high speed fibre connectivity.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Teaching face to face on a daily basis, although our school is quite small, we are very strict with our Covid protocols. We are all sanitised upon entry and temperatures are checked and recorded and again just before school closes for the day, even including the parents who drop the children off.
Masks are worn throughout the day during class.
