We go the extra length to find a solution. and consider having to tell the customer to "start over" a failure on our part. Helping people who have only been told to "Buy A New hard drive/computer," is fundamental, as these machines sometimes just need a little attention/upgrade to keep on working for you; Stretch that investment as long as possible I say(!). Our typical $80 fee is 1/2 hour of labor that both identifies the issue and (in most cases) also applies as the labor to fix it. Parts needed will be extra; I can price them or the customer can obtain them themselves -- of course then they are responsible for functionality and correctness of part. My data recovery $150 service (less for thumbdrives- depending on capacity), if I cannot get the data, pretty much ensures that opening it will be the only way to go; that's why I don't charge the full amount if I cannot get it.

What do you love most about your job?

We go the extra length to find a solution. and consider having to tell the customer to "start over" a failure on our part. Helping people who have only been told to "Buy A New hard drive/computer," is fundamental, as these machines sometimes just need a little attention/upgrade to keep on working for you; Stretch that investment as long as possible I say(!).

What inspired you to start your own business?

My background is in Law; went to law school but did not finish. I did an apprenticeship for about a decade then worked as a tech then managed a repair shop.

The owner of an Apple repair shop near me saw my interest in computers, and asked if I would be interested in a weekend position helping the techs. I went from that, to being a tech, to being the manager of the shop until it closed in 2011. After which I continued to help some of the customer from the shop until establishing my own business.

Why should our clients choose you?

Typically I meet customers at convenient locations close to them or their specified area, pick up their machines (unless the repair can be completed where we meet (upgrades, software issues, etc.) and begin the repair.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Typically*, I charge 1/2-3/4 hour labor ($60-$80) for diagnostic on any machine. I find the issue or issues, along with the solution and the associated repair cost.

If the repair is approved, the Diagnostic fee is applied to the labor portion of the repair cost.

If the repair is not approved then you pay $60-$80 to find out your issue; from that point you then have the luxury to weigh repair quote against another option, like replacing the machine.

*Data Recovery is a $150 flat fee -- less so for thumbdrives/SD cards and other storage formats, depending on type/capacity -- and the full amount is only charged if the data is successfully recovered.

*Liquid Spill Recovery is a Flat $100 fee, and entails a complete disassembly of the computer to remove all spill moisture/reside.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Due to Covid, be advised that I am vaccinated+boosted, am not suffering from any symptom and have exercised the recommended health guidelines since implemented (social distancing, working from home, hand washing/antibacterial gel use, wearing protective gear when warranted).

When I pickup computers, I do so with gloves, practice social distancing with people, clean the computer before - and - after working on it and return it to the customer gloved.
