Texas bookkeeper FAQs

What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant in Texas?

A bookkeeper manages your daily financial records. They are foundational, handling data entry, bank reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll, including federal tax withholdings and state unemployment filings with the Texas Workforce Commission.

An accountant acts as a financial strategist. They analyze the bookkeeper's data to prepare financial statements, provide business advice, and, crucially, handle tax planning and preparation. While Texas famously has no state income tax, an accountant navigates federal taxes and specific state obligations, such as the Texas Franchise Tax and complex sales tax regulations.

When should I hire a bookkeeper?

It's time to hire a bookkeeper when:

  • You are spending more than a few hours each month on bookkeeping tasks yourself.
  • Your financial records are falling behind or becoming disorganized.
  • You are not confident in the accuracy of your financial reports.
  • You are preparing to apply for a loan or seek investment.
  • Your business is growing, and the number of transactions is becoming overwhelming.
  • You need to focus your time on growing the business rather than on administrative tasks.

How much does it cost to hire a bookkeeper in Texas?

According to Bark data, the average price of a bookkeeper per hour in Texas is $50, however this figure will differ depending on the scope of work, transaction volume, and the bookkeeper's experience.

Bark data also shows that in Texas, the majority of businesses spend between $250 and $400 monthly on bookkeeping services.

What do you love most about your job?

I love helping other business owners in the area of bookkeeping. I realize the critical role that finances play in a business, and with my experience in bookkeeping, I enjoy being able to make someone else's work easier. My "superpower" I guess you could say, is finding the most streamlined way to accomplish something. I strive to find the best and easiest way for my clients to achieve the results they need from their financial workflow.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I love being invested in the work I do. Being an entrepreneur creates that energy in everything that I do. It helps me to be able to truly focus on my clients and helping them, instead of satisfying a boss or corporation first. I also enjoy the freedom and control I have by owning my own business. My husband and I have been business owners for 30 years. It's just been our way of life. In fact, I grew up that way, too. I guess it's in my blood. I'm growing my business and positioning myself to be able to spend time with my grandkids when they come. Those are the sweetest rewards!

Why should our clients choose you?

I have 30 years of experience and strive to go above and beyond with providing information that will help save my clients money, increase their sales, and maximize their profits. I offer advisory and forward-thinking services that accomplish so much more for their business. But even more important than these, I am an honest, loyal, trustworthy, dependable business woman. I strive to do my very best in every way for my clients.
