We've been going to Fog City Dogs for over a year now and we love it. Kosmo (our dog) goes about once a week for playgroup and recently a 13 day stay and came home happy and healthy. We received report cards and updates constantly and felt completely comfortable our entire trip! The staff are so friendly and nice to Kosmo despite the fact that he can be a bit rowdy at times. We love Fog City Dogs and wouldn't go anywhere else! More...

A great place that I trust to leave my precious furbaby for a few hours or for the night if needed. She is very anxious but I know they are gentle with her and give her time to warm up to them. She also gets great social time with the other doggies there. More...

I love this place - we bring our dog for daycare regularly, and she adores the staff (which is saying something, she really doesn't like most people). Fog City dogs is great!

My pitbull Bean is easy to misunderstand - he's shy with new people and situations and will bark at the 'scary' thing or attempt to escape, sometimes both. Because he's a bully breed, people sometimes mistake his nervousness for aggression. But he's actually amazing with other dogs and is friendly with people 5 min after meeting them. I wasn't sure what to expect when bringing him to Fog City for the first time. He was shaking with nerves and barked at the staff person who attempted to greet him. But they were patient and could see he was warming up slowly. We agreed that I could leave him there, but I was still unsure how the day would turn out. I checked in at lunch, and he was doing great! They let me know that he needed a couple breaks from the group, which I appreciate as it keeps my shy guy from becoming overwhelmed, but otherwise was having a blast. Each subsequent visit, Bean has been more excited and less anxious, until now he basically drags me inside to get playing. Thanks Fog City for seeing my tough-looking pup for the sweetie he is! Been taking my dog Hunter here throughout the last 3-4 years. Once in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019. Each year was a good week-long stay. I miss their online cameras that they used to have back in the day. However, the every-other-day report cards sent through emails are very helpful. Love the staff here. Our dog was a stray rescue puppy, so we were always worried how he'd be in these environments. However, Hunter seemed to do just fine every time. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Their pricing is reasonable compared to other places, which is why I also consider coming back each time. Thank you Fog City Dogs! More...

I'd like to update my review as one of the owner/managers of Fog City has most certainly made an effort to keep our business and keep us happy. As promised, I received emailed "report cards" and a photo of our boy and he was happy (as usual) when we picked him up. I have also noticed more Instagram posts which is fun. Still miss the webcams, but you can't have it all. Thank you, Fog City, for taking good care of us and our Frankie! More...

I don't know what I would do without these awesome people to look after my dog every day. I've been coming here for months (and occasionally boarding him at the other location) and they've been nothing but kind, courteous and professional every time I've interacted with them. They keep an eye out for my dog and let me know how he's doing each day, going as far as to call me immediately when something seems wrong (his bark became hoarse the other day, for example). Fog City makes my dog incredibly happy and my life so much easier. More...

Our pup came home very tired and happy so we know he had a great day. The staff was very friendly and caring toward our little guy and us. The only thing I didn’t like is that we were not allowed to view the facilities to see where he would be and what he would be doing and we did not get a report at the end other than he was a good dog. Otherwise, would totally do it again and definitely recommend. More...

First time Ive boarded our 8month old puppy. It was a hard decision because he is so young but also because we will miss him daily. However, we had an emergency where our ceiling was collapsing due to water damage from our neighbor. I yelped many boarding facilities and found Fog City Dogs to be very popular. They have been awesome to our pup and us! I would definitely recommend. More...

Fog City Dogs is the best doggie care we have ever found. Kosmo is a large rescue pup with special needs (he is deaf) and he loves Fog City and all the staff. We are so happy having Kosmo stay there for the day and we've left him there for 10 days. He comes home happy, tired from playing with his friends and well-fed (and smelling good from his bath!). The team there are smart, kind, caring and so professional. We get report cards which are personal so we know Kosmo is well-taken care of. We hardcore fans of Fog City Dogs! More...

We've been boarding our shy and nervous rescue dog at Fog City Dogs for over 8 years. We average about 40 nights per year, so we know the place well. Our dog is always happy to come to Fog City, and jumps out of the car, tail wagging, and runs to the door. The people who work there know her and are super loving and attentive. When I pick her up, she's always clean and looks very happy (I do usually pay for a bath but when I don't they rinse her off). The people at Fog City Dogs are very sweet and obviously love dogs. It's a great place and I recommend all my friends consider Fog City as a wonderful and more affordable choice to take car of their dog when they need to get away. Highly highly recommended! More...

I was desperate to catch up on sleep and cleaning in December so I checked out many options. Fog City was clean, friendly and very accommodating. I've only used their day care twice, once before Christmas and once after, but they did seem extremely busy both times for both drop off and pick up, even when they seemed to have plenty of staff around. Most other daycare services had time to chat about my dog, his needs and how he was during the stay, without feeling rushed, and a couple places even had time to give a pretty thorough tour. Most will send pictures if requested. This is one of the places that doesn't do tours and would not send me pictures when I requested them even though they said they would if I emailed a request. Not having seen the room where Oliver ended up spending most of his 4 hours, I would have appreciated pictures for some peace of mind so I could get an idea of how clean and crowded this mysterious back room was. What I have seen and smelled of their Lombard location is very promising, although only one playroom, the one for big dogs, is visible to the public. Even with a bunch of dogs hanging out all day, the place smelled very clean and the one visible play area looked clean as well. so I'm confident that they keep the place very sanitary. They do not have pickup and drop off services for people who do not have a car, so I do have to take the bus to and from since I live in the Cathedral Hill area, which is fine for me, just a quick hop on the 49 or 47, and Oliver is great on the buses.Overnight boarding is at their other location, which is way too far even by bus, so I can't use their overnight. I guess their primary location is on Shafter and that is where they have the new equipment advertised on their website. Weekends and overnights are done there as well, not the more convenient Lombard location. They do seem to care a lot about the dogs and the few people I met were very kind and friendly, if a little rushed. I finally found a groomer in Portland around 2009 who knew how to handle my sheltie’s thick coat, and my dog was always happy when I picked him up (which was not always the case at other groomers). When I moved to SF in 2010, I was expressing my disappointment that I would have to find another groomer—my groomer surprised me by letting me know that her mentor, Lancy Woo, had a grooming business in SF, VIP Grooming! I have been bringing my dog here since I moved to the city. Lancy and her staff, who are all amazing, take such great care of my dog. He loves going to VIP and always looks great when I pick him up. Kosmo’s first day at Fog City turned out great. We’ve only had Kosmo for 1 week from Family Dog Rescue (another wonderful group) and he has extreme anxiety with strangers— especially with men. Of course a very nice guy was at the counter when we arrived so Kosmo went nuts. But the Fog City Guy (didn’t get his name but he is tall with a beard) was AMAZING. So patient and kind— we got Kosmo settled and he had a great day. Fog City is clean, bright, the dogs are happy and well cared for. I bought a 10 pack deal (makes $ sense) and plan to have Kosmo back frequently.A special shout-out to the Guy with the Beard— you are a Hero! More...

I've been taking my (new) 2 year old rescue here for two months. My most important observation: my dog leans in / tugs, with tail in wag-mode, at every arrival, and he comes home tail in wag-mode and exhausted. Also...1) People: Staff at FCD genuinely enjoy being with and caring for dogs. I see that in how they interact with my dog, and how they often show off other dogs in their care and discuss breeds and personalities. 2) Regular updates: Melissa/staff provide updates on my dog's activities and behavior, and let me know which dogs are particular pals with mine. 3) Special situation care: In one instance, my dog was nipped by another while playing - a very minor injury to his ear. I was notified quickly and told the staff was on it. When I picked my dog up, the nip was tended and cleaned, and my dog seemed totally unbothered, tail on wag. 4) Partnership (training): Melissa/staff shares with me areas to help my dog along in training and partners on those focus areas. Great place for the dog! Handlers really care about the dogs and I've never had a problem with boarding or day care in either location. They're the only ones who can cut her nails. I'm a little sad about their recent price increases and package "deals" and it did affect whether she boarded there or with my friends the last time I needed overnight care. I fully understand the need to raise prices, especially in SF, though. For those people who don't like the temperament test-um, don't you want them to know the personality of all the dogs to avoid problems? More...

Fog City Dogs is by far the greatest daycare for puppies and dogs of all sizes and breeds! Nick and his team are the most dedicated, compassionate, helpful, and knowledgable people who I trust with my fur baby. Anytime I have questions or need to tell them something about my puppy, they are so responsive and give such amazing advice and they truly care! I have contacted Nick so many times with questions and concerns about my pup (because I am a massive worrier) and not once has he ever not had time for me nor has he ever not provided everything I needed to know and calmed me down. I always feel so taken care of by Nick and his team!My 1 year old Rottie named Bentley has been going to Fog City Dogs since he was only 9 weeks old. I cannot explain the excitement he gets as soon as he sees the doors to Fog City Dogs. He literally jumps out of the car and cannot control himself. Dogs can tell a lot about people's characters and from what I have seen from Bentley, is that he acts this way because he really does enjoy being there and loves the staff and all of his friends. Updating my review: Logan and Melissa called me on more than one occasion to apologize for the situation, confirmed that they took necessary action internally, and helped me instill trust in FCD again. I have been back since and have been happy with their care. Thanks guys! ------------------------I had been boarding my dogs here for years and unfortunately, had a terrible experience with my new puppy. It was my first time boarding him and on the second day, I viewed the webcam and noticed a cone was on him.  I called to ask what happened and was told he scratched and cut his head a little so they put a cone on him prevent him from scratching it. Fair enough. But when I picked him up, I was in complete shock that I wasn't notified. He had some old scabs on his head so I understood if he simply scratched it. But this was completely infected and I had to take him to the vet immediately after. (Uploaded photo)I completely understand that things happen in daycare but the lack of communication is absurd. I should NOT have to call you while I'm away. Would FCD have even called me if I didn't view the webcam Had I known it looked like this, I would have asked him to be brought to the vet.Your team should focus on communicating with your clients because this is clearly not a priority. Sadie has been coming to Fog City Doggie Daycare since she was 6 months old and loves going to "school" as we call it. She is always excited to see her buddies and all the staff. Nick has a special place in our heart. He is the best with all the dogs and socializing them, remembering all their names and ours. He is always introducing me to other dog owners. What a wonderful place! I feel completely comfortable leaving my sweet Sadie with them! More...

I have been bringing my dog to Fog City on Lombard once a week for the past year, and have absolutely loved working with them! They have taken such good care of my dog, and she always comes home happy and tired. Nick is extremely friendly, and easy to work with. He was always accommodating when I needed to bring Peyton in last minute. I am moving out of SF, so sadly will no longer be able to bring my dog in - we will surely miss Fog City! More...

My wife and I have been bringing our dog Brody to Fog City for seven months and we absolutely love it! The biggest reason why is Nick, who takes such great care of Brody, is so attentive and is always willing to answer any questions and go the extra mile. Brody always comes home from daycare tired and happy - which is the perfect combination. Having Brody get such great socialization with other dogs here while he was a puppy was really important for his personality. More...

My dog LOVES Fog City. She tries to knock the door down trying to get in to play with her friends when I drop her off. When we got Cocoa last year, I was hesitant to drop her at a daycare, but when I saw that FCD had cameras, I felt more comfortable. After checking the cameras a little too obsessively the first week, I felt very comfortable taking her there. She has grown up there! They have had some turn-over since we started, but most of the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for a place for your dog to get good exercise and have fun. And bonus points bc the staff loves my human child, as well as the canine one! More...

I can't say enough about Fog City Dogs -- they have really made boarding my girl Ziggy a non-issue. Ziggy is a regular at Fog City (daycare 2x a week, boarding multiple times throughout the year) and I can attest to the fact that she always comes back home ready for a nap and raring to go back at the next opportunity. I really appreciate the fact that FCD will work with you if you're in a pinch for boarding and will even through in free baths for longer stays. Thanks FCD! More...

My 9 week old rottweiler puppy; Bentley, is now becoming a regular here and he loves it! I was apprehensive to leave my little boy anywhere but Fog City Dogs was clearly the best and perfect place for him. Everyday when I drop him off, he is extremely excited and happy to be there. Nick is phenomenal and Bentley adores him. All the staff members are so nurturing, responsive, and dedicated to all doggies and owners! Thank you so much for the wonderful experience. More...

This last move has kicked my fur baby's separation anxiety into high gear- so I no longer can leave him alone while I'm at work.  So doggy daycare it is!  My dog is older, so I was worried about doggy daycare at first- but all those worries wash away when I know Nick will be watching my lil guy.  He always updates me on how he did, what he did all day- and gives you honest advice.  The dog cam is also a major plus- although can be distracting since I want to watch it instead of work (oops!) Seriously Nick- I can't thank you enough for all of your help.  I never have to worry when my dog is in your hands! More...

Fog City Dogs is the BEST!! Gracie jumps out of the car, runs to the door and practically leaps into Nicks arms when she sees him! She always seems happy when I pick her up so I know she's had a fun day and the whole team is so nice and easy to work with. I've had to leave my dog a couple of times in an emergency situation and they are always accommodating for last minute drop offs. I've taken my husky here a few times, and am really happy with this place! They even walk her during the day as part of the daycare fee which is awesome! Drop off and pick up are quick and easy and Nick (and the rest of the staff) are super friendly. It's also appropriately priced and it's not a struggle to get in even if you have a irregular schedule like we do. I'd definitely recommend this place as we've moved around a bit and this is one of the best day cares we've been to. More...

Well deserved an updated review. Rylee has been going to Fog City Doggie Care for almost a year now and he's always excited when my car is closed to the place. Every time I picked him up, he's happy and you can tell that he had a blast at the daycare and just wanted to snooze his way into the evening. Nick has especially been awesome in giving me advise for Rylee as he had a little bit of behavior problem, always keep me updated with his behavior and he recommended me to touch base with Bay Area K9 Association - Marie Aymard. So, I did. And OMG, Rylee is a brand new dog !!!! I signed up for their 10 day board and train program while I was away at Tahoe with my family and follow with a 4x4 (private / group) class. I haven't start the 4x4 yet but when I picked Rylee up after his training camp, he is calmer, confident and happy. He used to bark at dogs passing by when we're doing walks, at parks out and about, but now he'll just be alerted and look at me for my next cue. He still whines a bit but no more insane barking (that was really embarrassing) and he is respecting me more as his leader and a greater bond has been built. I could go on forever for all the fabulous things about my "new-improved" fury son. But, without Nick's help and advice, Rylee would never be able to learn the proper way of behaving. ...Thank you NICK !!! you are awesome ! And thank you Fog City crew for your love and care for Rylee !!! We love you !! Ruff Ruff.... More...

I wanted to do a shout out to Nick Ortega and the team at Fog City Dogs on Lombard/Franklin.  They do such an amazing, incredible job.  I know I can always count on them, whether it is because my dogs need to wear a collar because of itching, need medicine during the day or more typically just need attention and love.My two German Shepherds, Finn and Mocha, have gone to Fog City every day for nearly their entire lives.  They bound in each morning eager to see their doggie friends and hang with the great staff of people.  Every night when I pick them up, they're glad to see me, but also are always wagging their tales and conveying the message, "That was so much fun, Dad!  Can I do it again tomorrow, please...."Recently I had to re-home one of my two dogs, Finn.  It was a very traumatic event for all of us - Mocha, me and my entire family.  Finn too, of course.  Nick and the team did everything they possibly could to assist me through this horrible process, providing extra love and support to both Finn and Mocha in the weeks before Finn's departure and then to Mocha afterwards, when she was distressed about the loss of her best friend.  As important, I always felt they did everything they could to cheer me up and make the whole thing easier on me and the rest of my family.Thank you, Nick and everyone else at Fog City.  We love you! Love FCD!  I've been taking my pup there every day for nearly two years now.  They are the only people I trust my Shiba with.  Nick has been the most incredible person, going above and beyond to insure that my little one is happy and taken care of.  Everyone at FCD has been great and despite my pup being difficult to handle at times, they've been a champ at handling her strong personality.  Before this, I left my dog with another company in the city and was very unhappy with them - it was like they have never dealt with a puppy before despite claiming to focus on it.  Couldn't recommend FCD more highly. Fog City Dogs has been a lifesaver for us and our pup Dirk. Between the all day play & walks she always comes home happy, and thankfully uses up a lot of her energy so that when we pick her up she is ready to just chill out. We also love the multiple webcams as it's fun to check in on Dirk throughout the day to see which new friends she has made (whether it be other dogs or the incredible Fog City staff).Lastly it's nice to save a few bucks by buying the overnight boarding 10 pack. I've used both their Lombard Street and Shafter Avenue locations, I've done daycare, boarded my dog and also gotten some much needed training. For me mostly, first dog and everything. Awesome Trainer Marie was fantastic and I learned a lot. And so did my dog. I LIKED that they do a temperament test before letting the dogs in, that was a draw. Staff is very friendly and efficient, emails are returned promptly, they know the dogs' personalities and the prices are good. My dog perks up when we make the turn and comes home happy and exhausted. They kindly put up with a dog owner's idiosyncrasies and make me feel like they think she is the Best Dog Ever. To those people who think their dogs stink after daycare-of course! That's like expecting a child to be clean after taking them to the playground.  The doggie cam is such a great idea. More...

I have used both locations and give 5 stars to both.  I have used the boarding and the daycare at Shafter as well as the daycare at Lombard. The staff is friendly, helpful, willing to offer advice for new dog owners and treat my dog like she is part of THEIR family. I also signed up for the training with Marie Aymard-AWESOME!!!  Again, first dog-I really needed help with my intelligent, stubborn and goofy girl. I've gotten advice and written homework instructions so I can practice and her behavior has gotten so much better. I actually was attracted to the business BECAUSE of the temperment evaluation-hmmm, makes sense, right? Do you really want to send your dog to someone who DOESN'T care about knowing a dog's personality? It was wowrth paying $10, to have it credited to your first payment is gravy. And yep, she stinks when I bring her home, as she should after hours of playing with other dogs. She's also exhausted, happy and knows where we're going when I make the turn onto Bayshore. I love the doggy cam and am amazed that I have never seen anything aggressive considering there are alot of dogs. The staff clean the floor immediately when a dog poops or pees and concrete is probably the easiest to clean and bleach over some kind of soft surface. Overall, I'm very happy I found the business and recommend it to everyone. Oh, Shafter has a little parking lot in front, Lombard has a drop-off spot in front however it's usually taken and double-parking is not ideal on that corner. Also, it's worth paying $15 to have them trim the nails of my toe-sensitive pooch. They make sure she gets the lunch I pack and a nap-just like at a kid's preschool. How they keep track of all the dog's is a mystery to me, but they know her name and personality and she's only there 2x a week.In my opinion, some reviewers aren't thinking realistically. Put a bunch of dogs in a space, expect them to play but not get stinky or scratched? And some dogs climb fences-really well- of course you need tall fences. It's not jail, it's smart. And dogs pee...alot...especially when they're active. Bottom line, is the dog happy? Is the dog safe? Is it a good value? Yep. More...

This review is for the Lombard Street daycare, not boarding.  I have to say we (me and my dog) LOVE Fog City Dogs! When we walk in the door she goes crazy and cannot wait to greet her little dog friends.  Nick is there in the mornings and I just love him. He is always in a great mood and it is so obvious that he and everyone else there are "dog people."  Nick usually tells me funny stories about what my pup did on her last visit (and who her favorite playmates were...)  At pick up I usually see Max and he is just fantastic. One time Zoe was sick and couldn't come to visit and he actually called me to make sure she was OK.  Max usually gives Zoe baths when we add on that service and she comes out so clean and pretty.  I have recommended Fog City to friends and they also have great feedback. This Fog City Dog location does boarding as well as day care.  My dog loves this place.  She's pretty attached to me, so she never wants to go in, but once it's time for me to pick her up, she's always got the biggest smile on her face.  It's obvious how much the staff loves dogs and their work.  And you're dog will get 2 daily walks.  Boarding and day camp are pretty affordable and Fog City Dogs offers additional services such as baths and nail trims.  You can bring in items for your dog to have during their stay.  I usually bring a jacket if it's supposed to rain, so my little dog doesn't get wet during a walk.  While Fog City Dogs will warn you that they are not responsible for the loss of your items (like leashes or jackets) and you leave it with them at your own risk - I've never lost anything.  The staff is really diligent about remembering all of your items.  And it's obvious that they love their work and the dogs.  Every time I've picked up my dog or dropped her off, I'm told how great my dog is.  Granted - she is pretty adorable, but I have seen them interact this way with other customers too.  While drop off and pick up times can be somewhat limited if you're trying to grab an early morning flight, Fog City Dogs is usually able to accommodate your request for a time outside of the normal hours at an additional fee.  Dogs must complete an evaluation and have proof of current immunizations before being allowed to stay at Fog City Dogs.  When my puppy first started there she was very timid, but she has since become very social.  Appointments can be set up via email or over the phone. I was hesitant to give Fog City Dogs a 5-star review because you always hear accusations of high reviews being paid for by a company and other crazy things like that, and I didn't want my review to be taken any less seriously because of my 5-star rating, but I couldn't help it. Honestly. I think they are just that good. My dog Mia has been coming here for the last 3 months. We both love it.Lets start off with the consultation visit and temperament assessment: I saw some reviews a while back saying that FCD didn't notify them of the $10 deposit fee. This wasn't the case with me -- they were upfront about the deposit, let me know that if she failed her evaluation there would be no charge, and that the deposit will be used for her first daycare visit. Plus, it's written on their website. In fact, they have been upfront about any fee they charge -- late cancellation fee, no show fee, increase in daily doggy daycare rates by $1.... everything! They are so transparent about their fees, you know exactly what you are paying for. The staff there summed Mia up from the get go. They noticed she's highly energetic, very friendly, but can be apprehensive toward larger dogs. Mia's 45-lb, and they knew to put her in the small/medium dog space to warm her up. Since then, I have been bringing Mia for full-day daycare about 2x a week. The moment we pull into the parking space, her tail is wagging, and she knows and I know she's going to have a great day. The staff here is top notch. I actually just got off the phone with Melissa because I had some questions regarding Mia's next stay with them, she'll be boarding with FCD for four days. I see Melissa regularly whenever I pick Mia up, and she is so intuitive to Mia's personality, quirks, and habits. And what I love about Melissa and the whole staff is that they get it -- they know that leaving your pet for an extended period of time is nerve-wrecking, and they make sure they do everything they can to make you and your dog comfortable with the stay (even if it means talking to the obsessive dog parent for 15 minutes about her dog's bowel movements... yup! Thanks Melissa!). It's amazing. I get greeted by every staff member of FCD with a smile.  I really think their customer service is bar none the best. Mia is always a little apprehensive when she first meets men -- not sure why, or what happened before we adopted her that made her this way, but she always takes a while to warm up to men. The first few days she came to daycare, a male staff  member greeted us. Mia wouldn't let me leave without her! (She of course forgot about me once she started playing!) However, now, she has absolutely no problems, no hesitation, no shyness around the male employees here, and whenever I bring her she runs to the door no matter who's there. That shows me, and shows any owner, the level of care and compassion they give to the dogs and the level of trust they build with each dog. It's honestly incredibly beautiful. And I appreciate it very much. Finally -- I see a lot of crazy things being said about dogs leaving FCD super smelly... and all I have to say is... duh! Of course theyre coming home smelly! They are surrounded and rolling around with other smelly dogs for a whole day. I find the concrete inside the facility to be loads cleaner then any other flooring, and I always see the staff cleaning it. I think they are doing a fantastic job of making sure the facility is as clean as possible -- you should be thankful your dog isn't coming home smellier! This concludes my insanely long review. But for good reason. As long as Mia and I are here in the Bay Area, we're sticking with FCD. Thanks for taking such good care of my energetic pup! She's loving every minute of it! More...

I appreciate that they are sticklers about making sure all dogs admitted have all their shots, check-ups, etc. completed. We always know she's in good hands when we leave her here. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is due to the very superficial reason of the location and storefront leaving a bit to be desired. I love Fog City. Great employees and my dog loves it. I have a neurotic dog who has many issues but he's my baby. So on days when I know my work day will be long,  I bring him to the marina location for day care. I think the price is affordable for what they offer. $35 for 2 walks and playtime = 1 exhausted dog!  Also love their doggie webcam! More...

Fog city is the best! I use this location for boarding and find the location convenient especially since it's on the way to SFO. I can drop off Charlie before a flight and scoop him up on my way home. I make sure to bring a couple of his toys and a blanket for his bed as well as plenty of food. The people that work here are so nice and seem to genuinely love dogs. I never have to worry about Charlie while I'm away. The 10 pack of stays is a good value as it comes out to $40 a day. The dogs get 2 walks and a full day of playtime which is better than other facilities. More...

For a dog daycare, I think this place is a doggie godsend for owners whom work at home, especially. Working at home most of the time, it's been difficult to manage a high energy 6 month old puppy. Bringing my dog into the daycare allows me to work uninterrupted. My dog loves this place, actually runs into the place so excited, every time. I can tell he really likes the dog sitters. It's clean and has some natural light for the dogs, which I like. I love the dog webcam, just to make sure he is being treated nicely. I never worry about that though after a good 3 months of taking him 2-3 times a month. He IS TIRED when he gets home. Exhausted. Sometimes lasts for a couple days. I saw some of the negative comments, and I have to say I disagree w/ them. I think expectations should be reasonable. They aren't a spa for dogs, although they do offer a lot of services. They must manage many many dogs on a daily basis, so they need some standard in keeping them in line. i.e. water spray bottles. Also, taking dogs in there w/ different personalities, you need to expect that if your dog isn't exactly friendly, it might not do well. It's not personal dog watching, although I've seen them give a good amt of attn to each dog. The best place for your dog is at home w/ you. This place serves as a great place for the dog to play and socialize once in awhile. I would never take my dog here everyday as that's a personal preference on having a dog. But, once in awhile, it's a great place for dogs. Honestly, you guys are a lifesaver for me. So glad you are around !!! More...

Just dropped my high maintenance pup, Lucy, off for another long stay at Fog City. I almost think humans care/stress more about boarding than the actual dogs themselves, but it's still never easy leaving them. So I have come to love Fog City for a couple of reasons:- The dogs get 2 nice long walks a day, plenty of play time, and you can even add one on one time if your pup needs extra love.  Last time I picked my dog up she was exhausted from all the play for days to come, which was a great sign. - The site is clean and they are always sanitizing. That being said your dogs going to be hanging with with other dogs all day so they might not come back smelling of roses. - The staff really seems to love dogs and gets to know each and every one. Every time I drop my dog off they are gushing about a dog that is there and I usually get to meet/pet a happy pup. - For pet parents, you can even watch your pet on the doggie cams, which will put all pet owners mind at ease! I'm glad I've found a spot I can rely on and will definitely be using regularly!  It's not easy to find a place you trust, and in my experiences so far with Fog City they are awesome! More...

I've been lodging my Mini Schnauzer Dexter here for quite a while and have never had issues. Staff is friendly and Dexter usually comes home tired, which is a good thing. I am writing this review as a NEIGHBOR. I have not used their services nor do I know anyone personally who has used their services. ***********I have lived two blocks away from this business for the last six years. I work from home and am in the neighborhood frequently during their business hours. I have met and spoken with several FC dog walkers. I have watched their dog walkers go to and from Fort Mason park with their pooches at all hours of the day.FC dog walkers are the nicest, happiest people. They are always very considerate about the pack that they are walking when others are walking down the sidewalk (regardless of whether or not I have a dog with me)  They genuinely seem to enjoy the pups they are watching. And get this - after they are done walk their dogs, they return to the path they took with a brush and bucket of water and CLEAN THE SIDEWALK.  They literally scrub any where one of the FC dogs marked.  EXTREMELY CONSIDERATE AND APPRECIATED!!!!Thank you Fog City for being awesome neighbors. I'm sure this is reflected in the quality of care your give your dogs. More...

Manager Nick, Melissa, and all the rest have been great.  My rescue dog had socialization issue and was not doing well with other dogs.  After an iffy evaluation, they let her come in for a day, and monitored her activities.  Lo and behold, after about 15 minutes of bad manners and anxiety, she started getting in with the pack and learning how to co-exist and to play.  Next day she went the full day.And the doggie cam let me watch it all.  Thanks FCD More...

Just picked up my dog from a weekend getaway and decided to write this review. My dog is a finicky 8 year old mutt who is very attached to me and our immediate family, and has always been miserable and poorly behaved when we left her anywhere. Until we found Fog City Dogs. She has stayed there now about a dozen times, and each time she is happy to arrive and seems in very good spirits when she leaves. What makes me feel especially great about the place is that the staff clearly knows her personality because they have personally spent time with her. Although the boarding rate is pricier than a Craigslist dogsitter or some other smaller dog boarding places, I keep going back to FCD because I feel entirely not guilty about leaving her there. Fog City Dog has been instrumental to my dog's health (esp, in his early super active years (he's a husky)).  Although I don't live in the neighborhood any longer I still occasionally take him there when he is in need of a full play day.  When I moved out of the neighborhood I resorted to getting a dog walker who comes to my house a few days a week. The staff has always been friendly and great about catering to my requests over the course of 8+ years.  I love the fact that they have simply let you buy a 10x pass without a short expiration date (like most other places) and it's very well priced (still same last time I checked last year anyway). Peet looks forward to his next visit! More...

Love this place.  I brought my pup once for 12 blissful hours of not worrying about getting home to let my dog out.  I walked by the other day and my dog charged the door with her tail wagging vigorously. .."mom, do I get to go play with the other dogs?"  Great sign!  So I decided I would have to bring her back soon.  The attendants are very nice and helpful and I love having access to the dog cam so I can waste my work hours away watching my dog wag her tail and play around with the other dogs.  It's a great experience to be able to leave my dog in the capable hands of a daycare center on a busy day, to relieve some of my dog owner guilt.  Thanks, Fog City, for giving me peace of mind! If I could give these guys 10 stars, I would!  I found Fog City Dogs after a long and challenging search for quality daycare for my 3 year old dog, Sophia; and this was actually recommended by my Vet as one of the best in the city.  I couldn't agree more.  Before I started taking her there, she was home alone for long hours everyday, and it was difficult to give her the exercise and attention she needed (and deserves) when I was working.  It is very clear that everyone at Fog City Dogs, from the owners Jason and Sean, to all of the staff, truly loves dogs.  They take pride in their work, it is clean, and the dogs are happy (I know, because Sophia is always very excited as soon as she knows where we are going).  They know her, they treat her kindly, and the best part is that she is always exhausted when I pick her up at the end of the day - no small feat for a 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer, who requires A LOT of exercise!  They even give me little updates about what her day was like when I pick her up.  This team is the really best, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for daycare! What a nice place!  Very clean and spacious with friendly staff.  I just came back from an initial temperament evaluation and was very impressed.  It's a large place where every dog will have its own room.  They get extended supervised play time in groups according to size and temperament with 2 leashed walks per day.  They stream a web cam video of the play area so you can see your doggie throughout the day.I haven't boarded my dog yet, but I'm actually looking forward to it. Fog City is AMAZING! My puppy bumble bee is so happy there. A big shout-out to Nick, Sean, and Jason for being so understanding and so kind to my dog. I feel like they genuinely love dogs and take care of the dogs as if they were their own. They have been so flexible and helpful as my work hours have been pretty crazy- they are also great communicators so I always feel like my pup is being taken care of. The adorable dog cams on the website are amazing, I always take a peek in the middle of the day while I'm at work (yep, crazy dog mom but proud of it). I can't say enough about Fog City Dogs.  The staff there seem to really love my dog.  I think he spends more time on laps or being held than walking around - he's definitely a snuggler.  We were originally looking for a place to take our dog every now and then when we're gone for the day.  But now he's become a regular fixture there.  I love how they take them for walks to Fort Mason - he needs the exercise.  I also like how they let me know whenever my dog's vaccinations will be expiring soon.  The staff are great.  We love Fog City Dogs!!  I would definitely recommend them again and again! :) More...

My dog loves Fog City Dogs!  We've been going there for years.  In the car, when we're a few blocks away she starts whining and panting.  Then while walking in, she practically tears my arm off to go inside.  I confess, I'm a little addicted to the webcam while I'm at work.  At the end of the day I get good feedback about what she did all day.  She goes home, eats, and passes out for the night because she's dog tired.  They keep my dog safe and happy, and that's what it's all about. We still lodge our pup here every time we head out of town--even though we now leave in Walnut Creek and this often means making two big treks to the big city just for a dog hotel. The cost is comparable to other facilities and the best thing about Fog City Dogs is that they put my pup in doggy daycare all day, so I know she is getting attention and exercise, rather than being locked up in a cage all day.  This is a major plus if you've ever visited a place that charges you for each minute of interaction or "play time" with your dog.I also love the doggy cam, although I wish they would get additional doggy cams to cover all areas of the facility.  They did tell me that if I ever don't see my dog on the doggy cam, I can call them and they will bring my dog to where I can see her. We've been bringing our dog here for several years and I still see some familiar faces from when we first brought our dog in.  Melissa is really great and always has a good summary of how my pup did during her stay. They are also vigilant about making sure my dogs' vaccination records are up-to-date before I bring her in.Bottom line: my dog has stayed here numerous times.  I have seen her on the webcam playing and enjoying herself.  When I pick her up, she is always safe, healthy, happy and worn out.  What more could I ask for? My doggies agree that Fog City Dog Lodge is the way to go!  Compared to Wag and other doggie hotels, the stay at Fog City Dog Lodge is a much better experience for our babies.  The separated small dog and big dog areas are a must as my poor babies have had really bad experiences and have been attacked and sent to the hospital by unprovoked big dogs.  Due to these instances, my doggies have fear aggression towards big dogs and definitely would not be able to stay in the same play area.  My younger rescue baby has severe separation anxiety when I am away even when he is staying with family members and tends to lose fur.  When he stays at Fog City, he comes home happy. Just picked up my two dogs, a Puggle and a Shiba Inu, from a weeks stay at Fog City Dog Lodge. This was our first time boarding the kids here, and we are so happy to have found this place! The staff are super friendly, and the dogs came home EXHAUSTED! We love that the standard stay at Fog City Dog Lodge includes lots of playtime rather than being stuck in a cage all day. Many of the "a la carte" services at other places we researched are included in the stay here.  We did pay an extra $10 for the pups to get 30 min one on one time each day...totally worth it. Also, you can bring your own treats and bed rather than pay a million dollars for some crappy treat they provide or a bed with which they aren't familiar. The thing that sealed the deal for me was that the staff seemed to really have gotten to know our pups while they were there. When I picked them up, the staff at the front desk commented on our dogs silly little quirks and small details of their personalities. These guys are passionate about dogs and it shows in their business model and the way they interact with the dogs! More...

I brought my dog here last weekend for the first time. He has never been boarded before so I was super nervous. He's a mini-poodle mix and isn't the greatest around all big dogs due to past experiences. After reading the reviews for this place, I thought I would give it a shot anyway. When I went to the facility for my dog's evaluation, the guys who work there took him into the back to introduce him to a playgroup. While my dog was mingling, I got a little tour. Everyone was really nice, and my dog did great. Flash forward to picking my dog up after his stay (dropped him off Friday morning and picked him up on Sunday afternoon)... He was so happy! Of course he was happy to see me, but he seemed genuinely content. He was all fluffy, so they must have given him a nice brushing before I picked him up. The cost was more than reasonable too. Loved this place!Oh, and I couldn't stop checking in on my pup online through the web cam. The video quality is poor for this location, but it still did the job! More...

Fog City Dog Lodge is awesome!  The people there are very friendly and the dogs all had smiles on their faces.  Our dog, Stella, was attacked not to long ago and her social skills were impacted greatly.  Fog City is a safe environment for her to learn to  trust other dogs and people again.  On her first visit there Ryan took her back.  She yelped as if she were being attacked the first 5 minutes.  We were out front cringing and wanting to jump the desk to go and rescue her.  After what seemed like an eternity (about 10 minutes) Ryan came back.  He had put Stella in the play yard with small dogs and she had piddled and then put herself in a corner and was continuously barking, not letting anyone close to her.  He straight up told us that she was very nervous but in his opinion she would begin to loosen up if we left her there.  We went back and observed her and decided to leave her for a few (4) hours.  When we came back Stella had been on 2 walks and was starting to play with some pugs.  She was smiling when we picked her up.  We have not yet boarded her there but plan to soon.  The 'kennels' are plexi glass instead of bars, which I like.  They have very detailed notes on each guest hanging by their kennel.  I like that they go on walks and also have a lot of play time each day.  Sure it smelled like dog in there (I read the negative reviews), but its a dog day care seriously what can someone expect.  I'm glad it didn't smell like bleach or something as Stella would not enjoy that at all.  How many pre schools for kids smell like bleach, none, they smell like farts and play dough.  A dog had a rather smelly accident while we were there in the play yard and the staff were quick to clean it up.  Hey, it happens.  As a bonus we bought some of their dog food and Stella loves it.  I will go back again and again and again.  I plan on reposting when we actually board Stella there overnight. Bottom line - Fog City is friendly and affordable (compared to other SF boarding/daycare) and I highly recommend it!We just moved to the city and our dog Dixie hasn't quite adjusted to our new apartment, sounds and smells. We decided to board her for a couple nights when we knew we'd have a few long, busy days. I could tell the place was a good choice when Dixie actually wanted to go in. She could sense the good vibes. She's never been one to love other dogs, so I was skeptical of their "playgroup" philosophy. Turns out, Dixie got along with all doggie personalities and "was a joy". Also, they figured out she has tricks, like "shake" (she only has 3 legs). They obviously spend a lot of time with the dogs during the day. On a separate note, I don't understand other Yelpers' complaints of the place being concrete. What do you expect, some lovely carpet?! Concrete = CleanlinessIt could be a stretch, but I think the 3 days there really loosened her up with other dogs. She was actually PLAYING with dogs at the beach a few days later. What a good dog. I am so impressed by this  place! I called literally on my way out the door this morning to see if I could bring our 1 year old puppy in for daycare. I meant to look into it earlier in the week, but, you know how weeks go. Anyway I thought for sure i would be stuck. But no, the nicest guy ever on the phone invited me to just come in first for a temperament evaluation (I am so thrilled they do this so wasn't inconvenienced at all) and in no time he had my dog in the play area introducing him to new friends. Our dog is very shy so they gave him a lot of extra care and attention getting him settled. When I picked him up Ryan and Nick (also so nice and warm and friendly) were raving about how much fun he had, and I can tell he did. He was all wags, and just passed out when he got home. Bottom Line- Great city boarding facility with top notch service.I was going to send an email to Fog City singing their praises, but realized it made more sense to post it on Yelp where others can read it.  Our dog was a regular day care visitor and boarder for a few years while we lived in San Francisco.  I have nothing but happy things to say about our experiences.  Our dog was always thrilled to be there, the check-in/check-out process was always super quick, and the level of information I received about our dog's stay was always thorough and thoughtful.  On the one occasion where our dog was involved in a fight with another dog, I was notified immediately and given the play-by-play.  The in-depth information seemed appropriate and I never hesitated to bring our dog back.Since moving to another town, I continue to love Fog City.  I've had to call them a couple of times to provide references to other boarding facilities and to fax information about our dog's immunizations.  Even though this means I'm giving business to another facility, they are always super duper prompt and even follow up with me to confirm they followed through with my request.  I really respect and love the folks there for this. When we can make it work, I still take our dog back to Fog City for lodging.  It is a nice comfort to be able to watch our buddy playing on the web cam and know he is having a ball. Once again they some how have managed to keep my little Puppy as happy as a clam.  We just picked her up from a 10 day stay and she is as happy and healthy as ever.  She in fact was so normal she even destroyed a toy we left for her.   Ah the joys of having a puppy. Anyhoot the wonderful gal went to the doggie den to get her and she came skipping out like it was nobody's business.  She was not only happy, but freshly bathed like I requested.  Same old spunky dog that I left a little over a week ago.  It's sad to hear that other people may have had such bad experiences, but between Buggie's time at the daycare and lodge we have yet to encounter any issues.  Our doggie even had some issues with her spay surgery a while back and Matt & Nick definitely kept an eye out to make sure nothing got worse for her.  The entire FCD crew truly does such an amazing job!! Prior to taking him to Fog City Dog Lodge, I had never been away from my puppy Leroy for even one night. However, we went in for an evaluation and they seemed like they really care about dogs being happy and healthy. It was particularly telling that the guy who gave us the tour had his own dog hanging out in the play area for the day.The rooms are cleaned twice a day and look and smell clean - as does the play area. Leroy gets along with every dog but not every dog likes him (he is a pushy puppy) and so we appreciated that they separate out the bigger, more aggressive dogs. When we dropped him off, we sent his toys and own food and his crate and blankie and we really liked that he could have all of these to keep him company. Plus, he gets two walks a day!I did a lot of research on dog boarding and they charge what I guess is a flat fee for day-time and overnights: we are returning to San Francisco at noon but we don't have to pay anything extra for the full play day since we paid for the previous night.UPDATE:I have been working in Boston and have had the doggie cam on one of my browser tabs all day, so I can periodically check in. It is great to be able to check up on Leroy and I observed that they really do have one or two people in with the dogs a great deal of the time. Watching him play all day really did a lot to make me feel better about leaving him in an unfamiliar place. I called them around 3 in the afternoon and they had several notes for me: clearly, they knew who he was and what he'd been up to. I miss him, but I feel pretty sure that he's having a good time.UPDATE 2: We picked Leroy up this evening. He had a bath in the morning, and he smelled fine: I am sure he got pretty dirty playing every day with all the other dogs. He was tired, but not in a bad way: he came home and starting dragging things out into the yard (leash, bones, dish rags) and he ate a full dinner. It even seemed like maybe his bedding was washed. I really did have a lot of anxiety leaving him somewhere new for 4 nights, but I really do think he had a good time. I would definitely take him back: they don't have many frills but I get a good vibe from them, they are inexpensive, and most importantly my dog is happy and healthy. More...

My little 6 month old puppy is so happy she can't contain herself when we take her in the morning, and knocked out snoring when we pick her up.  I mean for them to be able to tire out "my little beastie" is a miracle!!  They also have a good group of doggie friends for her to play with.  I mean she's a 12 lb little thing running with the big dogs-literally.  Besides I take it as a good sign she doesn't cower in fear every time I take her, or runs and hides when the handlers go near her.  The people that work here really do care about the dogs and know them all by name.  How awesome is that?!?!  I bark my praises to this wonderful place!!! So if you want a place that will take AWESOME care of your little furry friend, this is definitely the place.  If you own an "accessory pet" you may want to look elsewhere. then again I've seen a pimped out looking Bison Frise chilling at this location. These people are complete pros, and care for our dogs Sophie and Tessa like their own.  We've boarded them here several times and the dogs always come home happy, healthy, and tired from all the playtime, and yes a little smelly from dog sweat like they do after coming home from Fort Funston.  They just got home last night and have spent the entire day napping!Just 3 days before our recent trip, our crazy cat scratched one of our dogs in the eye, buying her 10 days of antibiotics and a plastic cone of shame.  I called Fog City to explain the situation and ask if this was something they'd be willing to handle, and the very nice and professional guy I spoke with said it would be no problem.  When we dropped the dogs off, he remembered the conversation and was again friendly & professional, confirming the medication directions and other details, acting calm and reassuring as we signed the paperwork while dog #1 was choking herself straining at the leash and dog #2 was sweeping the room using her plastic cone as a battering ram.  The dogs happily followed the staff into the back without so much as a glance back at us.  Spying on them via Doggie Cam, both dogs appeared to be having a ball playing with the other dogs, and the staff frequently entered the play area to keep the floor clean.  When we called to check in and make sure our dogs hadn't burned down the building, the staff knew just which dogs we were calling about, and were happy to give us an update, and made it sound like squirting goo into our dog's eye wasn't a giant pain in the @#$.  When we picked up the dogs, we had a chance to talk with several staff members, all of whom knew our dogs and were friendly and professional.  They even gave us some peanut butter treats to take home.  Tessa's eye looked great, they obviously tried hard to keep the cone on her head, and had given her antibiotic gel as directed. It is clear that the staff know and love dogs and take their business seriously.  We really appreciate their professionalism, kindness and care for our dogs.  We also like that the enclosures for sleeping are roomy and clean, and that their sleeping cots are elevated off the floor.  The building isn't fancy on the outside, which is probably part of what keeps their rates reasonable, but having toured the inside the first time we boarded the dogs there, we felt comfortable that the facility was comfortable and clean for our dogs.  We are able to relax while traveling knowing that the dogs are in good hands.  Thanks! I swore I wasn't going to use Yelp anymore....but because there isn't another way to promote a company, here I am again.  That said, Fog City is GREAT!  We have tried 4 other places in the city and two outside and found that our little guy (Maltese) is truly treated like family here.  The area the building is in is just "ok".  And the facility is "ok"....but what gives this place 5 stars is the people.  Everyone there really cares about their 4 legged guests.  Our pooch plays all day with similar dogs, then goes back to a huge pen for the evening.  They play classical music in the evening and have an attendant.  There isn't any perfect places for dog boarding in my opinion.....but Fog City is the closest I am going to get.  Oh - and the doggie cam is cool! It is not my practice to write reviews. However, after reading the review of Ken M. my blood was boiling. My dog Jameson loves Fog City Lodge. He is a very spoiled large German Shepard that lives on almost 2 acres and has the run of the house and the grounds. Having said that ...He cannot wait to get out of the car and get inside to be with his pals. They take care of his medications and are so accommodating and loving. They know everything about the dog and can fill you in on his activities and likes and dislikes without consulting any paperwork or other employees. If Ken M. has never boarded his dog there I would not put much credence in his review. It is interesting that is is the only review that is not 5 stars!!! That alone should tell you something. By the way Ken M., you are able to view your dog at any time on the Fog City puppy cam...how many other kennels do that? BIG KUDOS AND 5 STARS TO FOG CITY LODGE!!! I More...

I absolutely love this place, and so does my dog Bailey.   She's an energetic girl, and every time we pick her up from here she sleeps for almost an entire day.  I freely admit that I am overprotective and a little neurotic about my dog, but whenever I've called Fog City they give me detailed info about what she's been up to.   If Bailey is in the car with us, there are 3 places that get her tail wagging and her excitement level up when we drive by: Ft. Funston, Stern Grove, and Fog City Dog Lodge.  I swear, it's like doggy Christmas, doggy Birthday, doggy Hannukah, and doggy Winning the Lottery all rolled into one for her. They walk the dogs outside twice a day, and nothing I've seen makes me think of it as a 'doggy jail' as others, who have never even used Fog City, have asserted here.  The play areas are large, and dogs are separated by size and energy level.  The staff are extremely attentive to any special requirements, from medication to even offering to ice Bailey's leg, which was a little gimpy from a minor sprain, all at no extra charge.  These people know and love dogs.  They allow dogs to be dogs and have fun being in a pack.  I would never hesitate to leave Bailey here in the future. I love love love this place! My little Serrafina needed to be cared for, for about 10 days and Fog City Dogs took care of it! they made it a priority to know my dog and make sure that my dog was comfortable and friendly with others.  I love that they have their "Dog Cam" so that me and my family could watch her online while we were away.  When we came back from our trip, our puppy seemed healthy and happy, we found out that she even made a few friends! I'm really happy I found this place, they're great! More...

Little Luna loves the lodge! She was a rescue dog and was rejected by the SPCA because of her shyness. Luckily, she was snatched out of Animal Care and Control by Grateful Dogs. Because of her history, I did not want to leave in a kennel for a couple weeks while we were out of town. At Fog City, the dogs are divided into two groups: little/senior dogs and big dogs. The dogs play together in two playpens for about 10 hours before retiring to their private rooms for dinner and bedtime. The staff are awesome. Every time I go, they treat Luna like she is their favorite dog. Two daily walks are included in an overnight stay. And OMFG, the webcam is so much fun; even my bf will watch it sometimes. When Wag Hotel opened, I booked Luna their for the holidays, but when I finally took a tour. I realized it would be a disaster. WAG only included one walk and one hour of playgroup AND it was more money. When I saw the little dogs were in kennels stacked two-high, I freaked out. I called Fog City at the last minute and asked to be put on the waiting list and luckily a spot opened up. After that experience, I was even more impressed with Fog City. One negative: I don't know what happens there, but my dog always comes home extra stinky. Not a huge deal because I can wash her in the bath tub, but sometimes I like to splurge for the post-kennel bath, and if you have a big dog, you'll want to for sure. More...

I brought our small beagle-terrier mix here recently for a weekend after hunting around for other lodging alternatives on Yelp.   I was somewhat anxious at first due to a few negative reviews that I saw on Yelp, but decided that the consensus was positive enough to warrant Fog City its good reputation. All in all, we were really pleased with the service here.  The doggie cam is awesome, especially when you can watch your dog on your iPhone.  Being the paranoid nut that I am, I had to keep checking on her on my iphone my entire trip.  It really put me at ease to know that our doggie was being supervised and with other normal dogs. When we picked her up, she was happy to see us but was not distressed or psychotic at all.   What was funny to us was that she was actually whimpering when we were driving away from the Lodge and she kept staring back at it through the rear windows as we were driving away. There are some reviews that mention that their dogs smell like they rolled around in poop or pee when they were picked up.   We bathed our dog right before the lodging, and when we picked her up she didn't smell like she rolled around in any poop or pee.  She just smelled like she had just been out playing with other dogs at a dog park.  Nothing horrific or intolerable. We will likely be bringing our dog here again for future trips or weekend getaways. More...

My dog is, shall we say, high maintenance. While Hubby and I have been on various trips, we've usually left him at home while a friend would come and check on him. Over the course of time, poochie has peed and pooped in the house, barked all night and kept the neighbors awake, and successfully ate through his doggie crate (no kidding). SO, we had to find a better solution while we left tow for two weeks over the holidays.i found Fog City Dog Lodge on Yelp and I took my poochie in for a temperament evaluation. My dog doesn't have a lot of "experience" with other dogs- he's the only one in our building, in fact, so I was a little nervous. Melissa met us at the front counter and completely put my mind at ease. She asked me some simple questions about my poochie (i.e. has he ever attacked anyone, has he ever been attacked, what is he like on walks when he sees other dogs, etc.) Then Melissa took him in the back to introduce him to other pooches. Apparently, he passed the evaluation because they allowed him to stay while we went on vacation. While poochie was at Fog City Dog, he was placed in the "small seniors" play group (which just brings to mind images of dogs playing dominos or chess with each other!!). He got two walks per day, nap time, and unlimited play. Hubby called to check on him once during our trip and they reported that poochie was having lots of fun with his new friends. When hubby went to pick him up, poochie was healthy, happy, and a little leaner (he needs to lose a little pudge)! I will never hesitate to leave my pooch at Fog City Dog Lodge!!! More...

I have been taking my dogs to Fog City for two years now, since they were just puppies. I love the place. The staff are so helpful, understanding, and flexible they make things easy. My dogs run from the car to the front door because they love being there and playing all day.  And when I get them back, the are little tired, happy, loving lumps.I have no complaints about the services and care they provide. I feel confident that my dogs are safe and well attended. And as a customer I feel well cared for also.If I could have any changes I want they would only be to expand on their current services.  It would be great to have a end of day shuttle from Fog City Lodge to Fog City Day Care and back.  I live in the Marina and to walk them there instead of driving across the city would be awesome on drop off and pick-up days.I have been there so many times for trips and sometimes because I just needed a day off from being the single dad of twin littermates. They are always understanding and welcoming, and took plenty of time to assure me when I was starting out.Ali and Shug both are Fog City Dogs and will be for years to come! More...

Spencer - our high energy, fun lovin' dog - loves the Lodge.   I - his slightly anxious, over protective guardian - love the Lodge too. Spencer loves the Lodge because he gets to play with his doggie friends for hours on end and then gets to sleep in his own space with his own doggie bed.  Spencer also loves all the personal attention he gets from the staff, including some quality lap time.I love the Lodge because I know they provide consistent, high quality care for my pup.  The staff are top notch.  If Melissa is around when we pick up the pup, she can always provide a detailed account of Spencer's antics.  Whenever the husband and I need to skip town for a few days, we are confident that Spencer is in good hands at the Lodge. I got a real live person when I called and an interview the following Sat. There was no need to stalker call to get a response like at Planet Pooch.I don't know what they did there but Carlito was his happy, spunky self when we picked him up a week later. As I expected when I read the reviews for this place, it has some 1-star reviews by people whose dogs don't really belong in a HIGHLY social & active dog day care facility. I loved this quote:"the WORST experience my Tibby has ever had"...because people who refer to their dog as "MY Tibby" or "MY Barkey Von Schnauzer" are usually the ones who spent a few thousand bucks on a breeder and have them groomed every week... and god forbid they should ever play with another dog or....  bark! gasp!So its pretty clear the rest of these reviews agree with me:  If your dog loves other dogs and is highly active, he needs to have 10-12 hours of playtime a day, plus walks!Yes...  Its true your dog may come home smelling like dogs.  I'm not sure why that happens, they should work on that problem.  All they're doing all day is playing with other dogs.  Where does that smell come from?  If it bothers you, I think you can buy one of those plastic "bubbles" like Bubble Boy on Seinfeld was in, and take your dog to the park in that.Anyway, my dog passes out tired at the end of the day here.  He gets out of the car and literally tries to ram through the glass door to get in here.  So I'm no dog whisperer, but that probably means he likes it. My dog goes absolutely berserk when we turn the corner off Bayshore and charges out of my car and waits by the door to run in. The staff all seem to know him, and he comes home healthy and usually seems more fit. I have always gotten progress reports when I called and asked about him. They also know almost everything about him - his personality, eating habits, and even his poddy habits. I like being able to look in on him on the cam although I can't always see him. Sometimes the place smells pretty doggish, but it is a dog place... I think the fact that he almost knocks over their front desk to get in every time says it all. I have gone to 5 other places in town including some pretty pricey options, but this one meets all the right standards. Woof! More...

I think my dog actually liked this place!  We recently left her for a couple of nights while we left town for a weekend.  Unlike other kennels where she's been locked in a small room the whole time, Fog City's approach is to let the dogs play and act all pack like the whole day .  Our dog is very social and just loved playing with her new buddies during the day.  She looked great on the webcam the few times I caught a glimpse of her running by.  I didn't see her at night, and don't know if she slept at all.  I could just see the crazy dog lying there woofing all night instead of sleeping.  And she did come home tired out, but that's a good thing for her boundless energy.  She seemed content instead of wild and upset like I have seen her after past kennel visits.  Plus the people that work there were super nice to us.  They took time to tell me which dogs she made friends with when we picked her up.  We could just tell they were nice and liked the dogs.  We're leaving for a week in the spring and I'll definitely use Fog City again. i'm a huge fan of the one in the Marina. the people that work there are SO flipping friendly and are always smiling when i drop/pick up my dog. my dog couldnt be more excited to go there in the morning and always sprints out of the car towards the building when i pull up - its hysterical. the dogs get to play all day and go on walks so she's always beat when she gets home but i love it b/c then we just lounge in front of the tv :o)i mean yeah, my dog has come home with random dog sicknesses but what do you expect? its just like a childrens daycare center where all of the kids get colds and things like that just b/c of germs, thats life! any small place that has a bunch of animals or people in it is bound to be filled with germs so deal with it or don't leave your house :o)i highly recommend this place if you want your dog to be treated well, to get plenty of socialization, and to get some exercise while you are at work. they even have a dog-cam on their website to you can watch your dog while you are out! The surest sign that this place is cool is that our dog wags his tail and barks his head off when we make the right turn from Industrial onto Shafter for a day at Fog City Dogs.  Then he marks one and sometimes two of my tires and the telephone pole in front of the place, and in we go.We have been taking our dog to Fog City Dogs for occasional daycare and for overnight stays when he can't travel with us, and think it is great.  The staff are all bona fide "dog people" who sized our dog up right away, and know how to handle him (he is better in a group with smaller dogs).Boarding has more perks than most kennels, with a walk in the morning, a play session with other dogs, a mid-day nap, then more playing, followed by another walk.  They will give your buddy a peanut-butter-filled-Kong for a modest fee, a must for the guilty dog-boarder.  They have a webcam so you can check on your dog.  The webcam thing is better in theory than practice, as it is pretty low-res.  We thought our dog was sitting on the sidelines, all lonely, but figured out it was a lookalike...Call and arrange for a temperment test before you try to take your dog in. We have boarded our dog here a few times. she always comes back somewhat sane and in good shape. She's always a little crazy after a week in the kennel. I really like this place because she gets to play all day  cage free, unlike other kennels where they are only out twice a day. Dogs are grouped with like size play partners so your mini poodle will not be in with a great dane. There is also a doggie webcam so you can keep a close eye on your pooch while you are away. The only downside is the play area is cement, but this is also positive because it is great for a doggie manicure. Rates are very competitive and are less than what I used to pay in LA for much better service. I also like that it is in route from SFO to the city for easy pick up adn drop off.Tip: Try not to book last minute as the dog must visit for a test run to ensure they play nice :) More...

Q&A

What could be a better way to spend the day than playing with dogs. At Fog City Dogs, we play with and interact with your dogs all day long so they get lots of love and attention. Then when it's time to get some fresh air, we take your dogs outside for neighborhood walks so they can do their business. The dogs bust in the door in the morning because they're so excited to play with their friends, and we look forward to having them visit.

Back in 2002, there were hardly any options for doggie daycare. We wanted a great place to take our own dog during the day. Since there was no daycare options near us, we started Fog City Doggie Daycare on Lombard Street in the Marina. All the local dogs loved visiting with us and romping around with the other dogs. But then many of our customers told us that they'd love for us to watch their dogs overnight when they travel out of town. So we started up our 2nd location as Fog City Dog Lodge in Bayview. Here we offer both doggie daycare and overnight boarding. After 15 years taking care of San Francisco dogs, we still love our jobs.

Since we have been going strong for 15 years and counting, we have lots of experience in making sure that all dogs that visit with us stay healthy and happy while having fun. Dog owners can use our doggie webcams to peek in on their dogs during the day to make sure they're having fun.
