Deborah Boardman Photography

I have had my own business since 1980, photographing actors, singers, dancers, models, musicians, children, family portraits, engagement photos and executives. I love interacting with people and take great pride that after shooting over 1.5 million photos in 38 years, I have never had to reshoot anyone! That is because I take the time to nurture my clients and I spend a lot of time giving advice before and during every session. I have endless patience and am passionate about what I do. No two days are the same, and I treasure each experience of interacting and meeting new people every day.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that every day I have a new experience that makes my job like getting a special, unique present every day. Every photo I take is a gift to edit, and I am passionate about providing the best possible photos for every single person who walks into my lovely studio. My studio is a spectacular space- I have what would be the backyard of three homes right in historic Washington Square West. I have a curved wall that spans 22 feet and is 15 feet high, making it a magnificent place to work. My clients all say "WOW!" when they walk in, and that is a great way to begin the shoot!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I used to dance for Pennsylvania Ballet in the late 70's and then a career-ending back injury forced me to redefine my life goals. I began as a dance photographer (I am known as The Body Photographer now), and soon expanded my client base to include many different kinds of photography.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have endless patience, am a great listener and bring my personal dance experience of hard work, perseverance and focus to every job. I work well under pressure and always turn around jobs in less than a day or two at most. Every single person enters my studio feeling anxious about getting their photos taken, and leave with renewed self-esteem and confidence. It is wonderful to witness, and it has been happening for 38 years!
