What do you love most about your job?

There is nothing more rewarding than helping students get to that "aha" moment when they realize their goals can actually be met. This is a common occurrence at MusicLessons1on1, with new/beginning students and also with more experienced students looking to take their playing to the next level. Another rewarding aspect of what we do is getting the student to the point where they no longer need their teacher. We believe the best teachers strive to make themselves obsolete. We think this is what primarily separates us from other music mentors.

What inspired you to start your own business?

A desire to help people and pass on something tangible to them, regardless of their age, experience, history and demographics. Music is for everyone and does not discriminate. All musicians are on a "path". Some are farther along than others and some move along this "path" at different speeds. True and pure musicianship involves a constant process of teaching those that are not as far along as we may be and also LEARNING from those that are farther along than we are. This makes the learning and teaching process never-ending and organic. It's not necessarily about ARRIVING at the destination, but rather enjoying the JOURNEY along the way and helping others to do so in the process. We're all students forever in this ecosystem. It really is quite beautiful.

Why should our clients choose you?

We've been in business since 2007. Since its founding, MusicLessons1on1 has worked with many thousands of students. Over this time we have developed methodologies, technology and tools for best-practices and, frankly, learned from an occasional mistake along the way. We have learned that to be the most effective teachers we must first be effective students. This is because we must first LEARN how each of our students learns. Are they visual learners or procedural? Are they list makers? Are they methodical or free-spirited in their learning approach? Do they have specific and reasonable goals or need help formulating goals? Determining how to best approach teaching a specific student involves thoughtful and careful examination of that individual student. Time is taken prior to the first lesson with us (usually over the phone) to discuss each student's goals and interests and also determine the best teacher "match" based on this free phone consultation. This is essential to the success of the student, and therefore our own success as teachers.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, we offer online private lessons with ZOOM and currently serve students throughout the US. We also operate a campus in College Station, TX and conduct in-person lessons at that location.

Remote, online lessons not only save transportation time and costs, but permit the student to learn in the comfort of their own home or office. Time traveling to and from an in-person appointment can be used to get additional practice in on their instrument! Further, it is our experience that the student is more able to book a lesson time that works around their schedule.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

By perfecting the delivery of online lessons during the pandemic we we able to ensure a safe way to deliver lessons to remote students. Many students reported (especially at the height of the restrictions) that this weekly contact with their music teacher gave them something to look forward to each week and had a positive effect on their mental health.
