What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
A: Knowing the customer and the guests. This happens by working with the customer well ahead of the event to build a set list that their guests will enjoy. Also being flexible enough to take a few requests, read the crowd and adjust the music on the spot if needed.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
A: I don't subscribe to always playing one steady beat like house/club style music, (120 bpm) unless of course that's what the customer wants, and I can defiantly do that. I build my set lists according to what the customer wants and by matching songs as much as possible according to their key signatures, (harmonic mixing) tempo, genre and other characteristics. Another aspect of DJ'ing that I pay attention to is creating smooth transitions along with creating something interesting with songs that have build ups and drops. Most people want a variety of musical genres, and I'll often play these together in small blocks, but sometimes certain songs just blend/mix well across genres, so I'll go with that if it seems right. It often comes down to reading the crowd and what they're wanting to keep them dancing.
What do you love most about your job?
A: I love music, all kinds of music. I've worked in Top-40, Country and Adult Contemporary radio. I've also worked as a club DJ. I've been in bands and play guitar (jazz, rock, blues and classical). The thing I love most about being a DJ is getting that immediate feedback from people at the events, watching them dance, having a good time and sharing the experience with them.
What inspired you to start your own business?
There's nothing better than being your own boss. Also, I want to continue building on my idea of incorporating live musical elements into the recorded music mix (stay tuned this is a work in progress).

Parkes Entertainment Light & Sound is a family operated business, and I am the DJ. My son serves as assistant DJ, but under my direct supervision during events. Mostly this means that if I'm out on the floor with the wireless mic hosting, he's running the board. This means that if you hire me, you get me and all of the attention that only the business owner can give. Customer service is key to everything. That's why all consultations and planning time is free. That's why setup and teardown time before and after events is free. I only factor in the equipment package and duration of the actual event into my pricing. I'm always accessible when customers need to reach me, and I ALWAYS FOLLOW UP! Before any event, I check and test every piece of equipment to make sure there will be no surprises. I also bring backup equipment; extra cables, power cords, batteries and lights. For our customer's convenience, we accept Zelle, cash, all major credit cards and in some cases checks. Parkes Entertainment takes the success of every event we do personally, and we're ready to make your next event a big success.

Yes, in the sense that we have the ability to operate anywhere 100% wirelessly and without a power source right out of our van, in the middle of a field or the top of a mountain. We use a 1,800 watt/hour power converter and battery powered Bose Pro-S1 speakers for remote events.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We will always work with the customer and the venue to mitigate any risk related to the Sars-Cov2-virus. We have our own supply of masks and sanitizers on hand as needed.

We feature quality Bose sound systems that are scalable to fit your event. No one size fits all sound! For most events prices range from $475 to $995. Our photo booth is available as a stand alone service, but can also be added to any DJ or Karaoke package for as little as $100/hour without prints or $150/hour with unlimited 4x6 inch color prints and a choice of back drops available.
