How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
To determine if your garage is suitable for redesign, consider the following:
Structural Condition: Ensure the garage is in good shape. Check for issues like cracks or water damage that may need addressing before redesigning.
Size and Layout: Evaluate whether the space is large enough for your vision (e.g., extra living space, home gym, or workshop) and if the layout allows for easy reconfiguration.
Building Codes and Permits: Check with local authorities for zoning laws and building codes that may affect your plans, especially for structural or functional changes.
Utilities and Access: Think about how the garage connects to your home and whether utilities like electricity or water are needed for your intended use.
Budget: Consider your budget for the redesign, especially if the project involves structural work or utility upgrades.
Your Goals: Clarify how you want to use the space—whether for storage, living, or a specific function—and ensure the redesign aligns with your needs.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Converting a garage into a living space involves several key steps, from planning and design to construction and final inspection.
1. Initial Assessment
Evaluate the garage: Inspect the structure for issues and assess its suitability for conversion.
Define the purpose: Decide on the function of the new space—whether it’s a bedroom, office, etc.
Check local regulations: Review zoning laws and building codes to ensure compliance.
2. Design and Planning
Space layout: Design an efficient and functional floor plan, considering windows, doors, and flow.
Insulation and energy efficiency: Upgrade insulation to make the space comfortable and energy-efficient.
Structural changes: Address ceiling height, flooring, and foundation if needed.
3. Structural Considerations
Reinforce structure: Ensure the foundation and walls can support a living space.
Add systems: Install electrical, plumbing, and HVAC if necessary.
4. Permits and Approvals
Obtain permits: Apply for the required building permits and meet local codes.
Parking: Address any changes to parking requirements due to the garage conversion.
5. Construction
Hire contractors: Work with skilled tradespeople to carry out the conversion.
Oversee progress: The architect ensures the design is followed and issues are addressed during construction.
6. Finishing Touches
Select finishes: Choose materials for flooring, walls, and fixtures that align with the home's style.
Final inspection: Ensure everything meets code before receiving a certificate of occupancy.
7. Post-Construction
Adjustments: After moving in, make any necessary tweaks to the layout or design.
In summary, a successful garage conversion involves careful planning, ensuring structural integrity, and adhering to local regulations. It can provide valuable extra space in a home while increasing its overall functionality.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job as an architect is the opportunity to shape the physical spaces that people inhabit and experience daily. Architecture is a unique blend of creativity, problem-solving, and impact—designing spaces that are not only functional and sustainable but also inspiring. There's something incredibly rewarding about translating an idea or concept into a built reality that serves both the practical needs and emotional aspirations of its users.
Every project is a puzzle, a chance to think through how form, materials, and light can create a lasting connection with the people who will use the space. Whether it's a public building, a home, or an urban space, the ability to influence how people move through, interact with, and feel in a space is profoundly satisfying.
I also love the collaborative nature of the work. Architecture isn’t just about design—it's about working with a team of engineers, contractors, clients, and often entire communities to bring a vision to life. It’s a deeply interdisciplinary process, and that collaborative energy always keeps me inspired and motivated.
Ultimately, what drives me is the chance to make a meaningful difference in the built environment, to leave something behind that enhances people’s lives and stands the test of time.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Starting my own architecture practice was a natural evolution for me. Over the years, I realized that I wanted more creative freedom and the opportunity to shape projects in a more personal, direct way. Working in larger firms gave me invaluable experience, but I felt a strong desire to take on a broader range of projects, particularly ones that aligned with my passion for creating meaningful, community-driven spaces.
I also wanted to build a practice where I could set the tone and culture of the work—one that values collaboration, sustainability, and innovative design. I’ve always believed that architecture is about more than just the buildings; it's about fostering connections between people and the spaces they inhabit. By starting my own business, I could have a more direct influence on how we approach design, how we engage with clients, and how we work with other disciplines.
Another key factor was the desire for independence and the ability to take on projects that truly inspire me. Owning my own practice gives me the flexibility to pursue the kind of work that excites me and to build lasting relationships with clients who share my vision for design.
Ultimately, it was about wanting to make a meaningful impact, not only in terms of the spaces I create but also in the way I can contribute to the industry and my community. Having my own business allows me to do that with a sense of purpose and the freedom to push creative boundaries.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Yes, I can absolutely provide remote architectural services! With today’s technology, many aspects of the design process can be managed virtually, from initial consultations to project updates and design reviews.
Here’s how I make it work:
Virtual Consultations: Through video calls, I can discuss your project in detail, understand your needs, and provide feedback in real-time, no matter where you're located.
Digital Design: I use advanced design software to create detailed plans, 3D renderings, and even virtual walkthroughs, which you can access and review remotely.
Project Management Tools: I use cloud-based platforms to share documents, track progress, and ensure that communication stays clear and timely.
While in-person meetings are sometimes necessary for site visits or detailed inspections, I’ve successfully completed many projects remotely by working closely with local contractors or team members for any on-site needs. Whether you're across the country or around the world, I can offer a seamless, collaborative experience for your project.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Since the onset of COVID-19, I’ve made it a priority to integrate health and safety into my design process to create spaces that protect both the people who use them and the communities they serve. Here’s how I make things safer:
Enhanced Ventilation & Airflow: I prioritize designs that maximize natural ventilation and incorporate advanced HVAC systems with improved filtration and airflow management, reducing the spread of airborne pathogens.
Flexible & Adaptive Spaces: I design spaces that allow for better physical distancing, with movable walls or partitions, larger communal areas, and touchless features (like automatic doors, faucets, and lighting) that minimize contact.
Antimicrobial Materials: I use surfaces and materials that are easier to clean and more resistant to bacteria and viruses, such as antimicrobial coatings for high-touch areas like door handles, countertops, and elevators.
Health-Centric Layouts: In public and commercial spaces, I design layouts that encourage one-way traffic flow, wider aisles, and accessible areas for hand sanitizing stations to promote hygiene and reduce congestion.
Outdoor Integration: Where possible, I bring the outdoors in, creating access to natural light, fresh air, and outdoor spaces that can support safer, socially distanced activities.
By integrating these safety-focused elements into my designs, I aim to create spaces that not only function well today but also promote the health and well-being of occupants for the future.
