My wife and I absolutely loved this place! The service was personal and the food was all amazing and definitely beyond expectations. It tasted and was presented like a bigger restaurant in a much bigger setting... the sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had! This is a "must experience!" More...

Went here with my best friend professor Mike. Great to see a different flare in the southern state of South Carolina. Pork was juicy made Hawaiian style. Potato salad was awesome and Wings were delicious too. People go out and open up your palate. Don’t be closed minded. Be a foodie and venture out of that tiny box you may or may not live in. Glad to meet the owner and hear his side of the story. From the west to the east and in this case south. Mahalo my good friend. More...

Don't come here looking for traditional SC BBQ. It's not here. No hash, no pork with sauce blended in. I'm not sure if they're going for a Louisiana or Brazilian vibe but either way, their BBQ leaves a bit to be desired. Way too much sauce on the meat and a very curious spice blend is used there in their seasoning/rub that doesn't agree with my palate. Is it nutmeg? Cinnamon? Some odd pepper? The cole slaw is strange; zero flavor. Nice enough people but the food wasn't anything like you'd expect to find in rural SC. More...

Found on a Google search for barbecue and this did not disappoint! I had the brisket sandwich, potato salad, and sweet potato fries. My husband had the California tritips, Mac n cheese, potato salad, and jalapeños. The barbecue had a unique flavor that was fantastic! The sandwich was moist juicy and tender, the Tri tips were also moist, juicy and tender. The sweet potato fries were so good I had to fight my husband to stop eating them! The potato salad was also different than any other potato salad we have had. It had tbe perfect amount of crunch and potatos! We cant wait to share this spot with our friends and family! More...

Highway 27 BBQ and Smokehouse is a destination that proves the best barbecue is worth the hunt. This isn’t just a roadside pit stop; it is a masterclass in wood-fired craft and genuine Southern hospitality. The menu is a love letter to traditional BBQ, and the execution is where the magic happens. Every bite delivered wonderful, deep flavors that managed to be bold and smoky without being over-salted.The Fries: It is rare that a side dish threatens to steal the spotlight, but these French fries were amazing. They arrived crispy, golden, and seasoned to perfection—the ideal companion to a pile of smoked meat.Whatever you do, save room. The banana pudding is an absolute must-try. It’s creamy, nostalgic, and arguably one of the best versions of the dessert I’ve encountered. What truly sets this smokehouse apart is the team. The service was incredibly friendly and professional, striking that rare balance of being attentive without being intrusive. The highlight of the meal was a personal visit from the chef. Having the person behind the smoker come out to the floor to check in and genuinely ask what we thought of the food added a layer of authenticity you just can't manufacture. It’s clear there is immense pride in that kitchen, and it translates directly to the plate.Highway 27 BBQ and Smokehouse may not be where the name suggests, but it is exactly where you want to be for world-class BBQ. Came on a whim after work in North Charleston. Totally worth the drive. The great thing is they have quite a bit of different items in the menu than you find at the traditional BBQ joints. I've never had a fried rib before. I didn't know what I was missing. It was so good. Crisp on the outside, super tender on the inside. With a light dressing of hot/spicy sauce. The BBQ spaghetti is really good, as well. I've never had anything like itThe staff is very friendly and personable. . I live on Johns Island and would definitely make the trip back up. As a matter of fact the table next to me had driven it from John's Island as well. Well worth the trip from anywhere around Charleston. More...

I recently had a business meeting at Highway 27 Smokehouse Barbecue, and the experience was outstanding from both a food and professional standpoint. The barbecue is excellent, the chicken wings are fantastic, and the menu has a great variety that makes it easy to satisfy everyone at the table. What really set this visit apart, though, was the atmosphere and the people. The environment is relaxed and welcoming, which made it a perfect place to have meaningful conversation without feeling rushed or crowded. During our visit, the owner took time to sit down with us and share some of his business journey and experiences. As a fellow business owner, that personal connection and willingness to engage meant a lot. It’s clear this isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a place built on relationships, community, and pride in what they do. If you’re looking for great food and a great place to meet, connect, or even hold a casual business meeting, I highly recommend Highway 27 Smokehouse Barbecue. More...

We shared a plate that included brisket, ribs, sweet potato fries, mac & cheese and potato salad. Tried to decide which I would mention as outstanding but it was all amazing! The mac and cheese was the best I have ever had, made with goat cheese. My husband though the brisket was really good. What was also worth mentioning was the chef coming out and welcoming us to "his house". So, so glad we found this place! More...

WOW — Absolutely Incredible! I was craving Nashville Hot Chicken and searched around Summerville when Hwy 27 BBQ Smokehouse popped up. It’s not technically Summerville, but it’s just off I-26 at Exit 187—and from Knightsville, it’s actually quicker and easier than driving into town. The food? Next level: Nashville Hot Ribs — unreal and so unique.Pulled pork — tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Wings — completely off the hook and the best I've had in this area.Everything we tried was outstanding. On top of that, the owners are veterans, incredibly friendly, and clearly care about what they’re serving.Absolute must-try and belong worth the trip. More...

I'm from Texas and this place was 45 minutes out of the way off 95 in an RV. Well worth the detour. I think the salt could have been cut back on the hush puppies and okra. Overall, both were fried fresh and didn't need sauce. Brisket tacos were good even though the only ingredients consisted of flour tortillas sliced brisket and onions. "Simple" The slliced brisket was actually really good even though there was a little smoke ring, but cooked perfectly. The flavors were all there. Sweet potato fries were crunchy and with a sauce. I like that this place actually uses real silverware instead of cheap cafeteria silverware, especially when it comes to barbecue. With that said, I never needed a knife to cut my brisket because it was cooked perfectly. I like that the owner came out and asked how everything was and tasted. I probably would have given this restaurant a 5 out of 5 if the hush puppies and okra were a little less salty. The potato salad was on point and the portions were a great bang for your buck. If you order an appetizer and two meals at any other place, this meal would have cost well over $60 bucks especially for brisket these days. Hats off to the owner and staff.
