We purchased our Mission Hills - Legacy - home in July and were introduced to Mike Roberts of SoCal Builders by our realtor - who knew we were planning a major remodel of the home. Mike took our ideas and back of napkin plans and returned to us an incredible finished product. Through his leadership and the superb team of sub-contractors he has assembled over many years - our best goals were realized. The project far surpassed our expectations. From project accounting to timeline management - we have been amazed by the level of detail Mike and his team provide. This was a "major" remodel in every sense of the word. At the end of the job - we have had exactly zero disagreements or disappointments. I had a garage that had two separate doors, with a two foot column between the doors. I always held my breath going in or our of the garage for fear of scraping the cars. Mike Roberts of SoCal Builders gave me a very reasonable quote to demolish the column and put in an eighteen foot single door. The work was done timely and professionally. Mike, the owner of So-Cal Builder was selected from four other bids for my remodel and new addition. The accuracy and clarity of the bid were both factors as well as his competitive price. During construction he suggested many practical design ideas that did not increase the cost. He also suggested upgrades that would make living conditions and long term upkeep more reliable, also at no extra financial benefit to him. He kept costs down as low as he could with sacrificing quality. When there were obstacles or problems he discovered in the old construction, he recommended the best solutions at the most affordable price. He would never cover up anything about problems in the old home that would possibly cause me greater costs and agony in the future. His options and solutions were always put on the table and he always let me decide on whether I wanted to fix it now, at a much lower cost or put it off until later. More...

Mike Roberts is a first class craftsman. He has done two additions as well as patio work and even constructed a built in bar-b-q. All these projects were done within the time frame agreed upon at a price that was truly competitive. The work site was kept clean and safe at all times. his workers arrived when expected and carried on in efficient style.

We contracted So-Cal Builders to do an extensive outdoor project that involved a lot of hardscape demolition, utility repositioning, resurfacing the pool and building/integrating a new hot tub and waterfall, new hardscape and extensive landscaping, lighting and irrigation. Mike Roberts, owner of So Cal Builders, and his crew removed my two eight foot garage doors, and a two foot pillar in the middle, and replaced them with a beautiful eighteen foot garage door.  The work was done, compentently, on schedule, and I was amazed at the results.  It is beautiful, and I don't have to worry about scraping my car backing out of the garage.  I would HIGHLY recommend Mike and his crew for any building projects you might plan.Hollis Hardin More...

Mike Roberts at So-Cal Builders is exceptionally professional and detail oriented. Neither myself nor my clients live in Rancho Mirage full time, but Mike has such excellent communication skills, and he is so quick to respond to any questions or concerns that the distance did not matter. In March of 2015, Mike Roberts was referred by a friend in Vancouver saying Mike Roberts has successfully managed many projects for him in the past. Based upon that strong recommendation, SOCal Builders was presented with design plans from which he submitted a detailed renovation proposal. Mike was hired to undertake the project in April of 2015. The project entailed a major renovation of a 5500 sq. ft. home in Rancho Mirage. The pricing was fair, competitive and Mike finished the project virtually on time and on budget. Communication with Mike was always a pleasure, productive and he always made the deadlines agreed upon. Have done 2 houses for us. On house 1 the extensive renovations were accomplished over the summer when we were not present. Result? Perfect. On time and on budget. I recently purchased a new home in the valley, and I was referred to So-Cal Builders for the renovation. Although the house was already in live-able conditions, we wanted to make changes to modernize and to make it uniquely our own. We wanted various upgrades throughout the home. One of my biggest concerns was budgeting. Since we had just bought a new home, I wanted to make sure that we were not going to be price-gouged with the upgrades. Mike, owner of So-Cal Builders, worked with me every step of the way. From our initial consultation to the final walk-though, Mike was extremely helpful with planning, organizing, and completing our project. He set a schedule that he adhered to, and thanks to his strategic planning and follow through, we completed our project on time. And the very best part, it was within the budget we had agreed on from the start.

The work that So-Cal Builders completed is as follows:

They remodeled all of the bathrooms, which consisted of one master suite and three additional full baths. So-Cal Builders replaced all of the old cabinets and drawers, removed all of the standard counter tops and replaced them with granite, installed new plumbing fixtures, and changed out all of the lighting fixtures. They also built a custom vanity and walk-in shower (with extravagant tile work I should also add) in the master suite, which are now the highlights of the room.

In the kitchen, So-Cal Builders replaced the old sink and faucet with a newer, much nicer model. They installed new appliances throughout, changed out all of the lighting fixtures, made repairs to the existing cabinets, and installed new cabinet pulls throughout.
In addition to remodeling our kitchen and bathrooms, So-Cal Builders also installed crown molding in our living room and dining room. They also custom painted our home throughout, making each room feel warm and welcoming.

We enjoy having guests over, when weather in the desert permits, so we needed a backyard that would be worthy of entertaining. So-Cal Builders turned our empty “desert lot” into a lush paradise. They laid beautiful stone pavers to give us a patio space, and they also designed and built a custom barbeque area complete with a sink, refrigerator, and seating for guests. They also designed and built us a custom firepit with seating for us to enjoy during the winter. So-Cal Builders did all of our landscaping throughout the backyard. They built beautiful planters along the block wall complete with gravel, palm trees, and various other native plants. They laid sod throughout the yard as well. They also installed all of the irrigation and landscape lighting.

I am extremely pleased with the work that So-Cal Builders did. I feel proud to have guests over and to entertain in our new home. Mike Roberts was a delight to work with. He is very thorough and detailed in project management. I never doubted that there was something that Mike couldn’t handle. His team is very respectful and they keep their workspace clean. I highly recommend So-Cal Builders to anyone looking for a general contractor that is honest, reliable, and a true professional. I am extremely happy with the work So-Cal Builders did for us and I will continue to use their services again in the future.

I would like to share my experience with So-Cal Builders. Mike Roberts, the owner, made an appointment to come over in a timely manner to assess the problem with my pergola. The large pergola, which is over 20 years old and permanently attached to my home, had started to deteriorate and the beams were cracked, separating from the posts, and beginning to fall. I feared that if the problem was not corrected right away my pergola would come crashing down and cause additional damage to my home. Mike inspected the repair and gave me a couple of options, and together we decided on the repair that would work best for me and my budget. He informed me that he would send workers over the following week, that I did not need to be there, and approximately how long the repair would take. Everything went exactly as he has told me, which I guess from talking with others in similar situations, is rare. No delays, no hassles, nothing unexpected, and I am extremely pleased with the result! Without a doubt, I plan to use Mike Roberts of So-Cal Builders for my future remodeling projects.
