There is Barbeque and then there is NC Barbeque. What's the difference? Taste, smell, texture. When you first walk in the door and your mouth starts watering you know your in the right place. Terry's is a little rib shack off Long Beach Road, slow down so you don't miss it! It's that little yellow shack over there.Vinegar-based sauce is a staple of NC BBQ and red slaw. Terry's has both. Bright yellow paint aside, this is a pretty understated place. Order from the friendly faces on one side, sit at the modest tables on the other. That's where the understated nature ends though. One bite of this food, and what can I say? It's punch-you-in-the-face good. We had the 1/3 rack combo and brisket combo with baked beans, mac and cheese, and Brunswick Stew. What's Brunswick Stew, you ask? This yankee did too, and we'll get to that in a second.The ribs were outstanding. A great crust, super tender with just the right chew. Excellent flavor in and of themselves, but go even better with the house BBQ sauce. Save a bite though, and if you haven't ever done so hit it with the vinegar sauce this region is known for. It may just change your life. Youll probably have to order another rack and have a do-over. The brisket was equally as yummy. Tender, tender, tender and ready for sauce. One bite brisket, one bite smoky, tender and only slightly-sweet baked beans. Yes ma'am, please and thank you.Now the Brunswick Stew. I asked what it was and was told, "it's got some brisket, chicken, potatoes, tomatoes, lime beans, corn..." she trailed off. "So it's got everything?" I say. She nodded. Let me tell you, it does have everything. Including that down-home savory flavor you're looking for in any hearty soup/stew. I had a bite, I smiled. I had another bite, then refused to share with the rest of my family. Its warm and satisfying, rich and bursting with flavor. In a blizzard, that's what I'll want. Do you deliver to CT? For now though, I'll eat it in hundred degree weather and relish every last bite- it's seriously that good.In the words of my children, "this place is the best! This bar is awesome! I love the laid back atmosphere! My favorite drink is by far the blackbird. It's so fun that they have games you can play while hanging out! It's open until 5:00am even on a Sunday. The bartenders are awesome and very helpful by giving us tips on where to go for our "drunk snack"! Finally got to drop in on this BBQ option near Oak Island. It's smaller than the other local places but a nice place with very friendly staff. Just a simple joint, right off the main road to the island. More a lunch/diner feel than a place to bring a group. Went for lunch and they were cooking chicken and brisket so only sampled the pulled pork. Will have to go back for a film review but the platter was great for lunch.
