I live in the U.P. and agree that Mackinac Island is simply magicalI! Your ads are incredibly impressive and enticing... all visitors will quickly learn that there is so much more than meets the eye and the Island will surely call them back again and again! Since my senior class trip to the Island in 1966..to our wedding anniversary last year which was celebrated by a romantic stay at the incomparable Grand Hotel...Mackinac Island remains one of my favorite places to enjoy...and to share with newcomers. (Wouldn’t it be wonderful to film...perhaps even a Hallmark Christmas movie... on the Island? And, wouldn’t it be lovely to have Jane Seymour play a role? My mind is swirling with storylines! ) More...

Going to Mackinac Island is a great place to visit. I had a wonderful time riding in the carriages, shopping, having lunch at the Grand Hotel, ferrying to Mackinac Island and of course the fudge just to name a few of my experiences there.

My husband and I took the Starline Ferry for the day. Once one the island it was packed full of folks getting off the dock. Main Street was a bit crowded but the food was outstanding! There are lots of shops and hotels on Main Street. Carriage rides are the taxis and they are reasonable prices. There are bikes to rent if you didn’t bring your own. We walked and still made it around very easily. There is more than one fort on the island to see as well as geological features. There are parks with chairs to sit and watch the beach. There are several historical places to stay and eat, such as the Grand Hotel. We only spent a day there but we are going back for sure! The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was a little touristy but mostly on Main Street otherwise, it was beautiful. The history was very mind blowing. I highly recommend visiting the island! More...

I love Mackinac and the surrounding areas and nature near it, as a matter of fact my bf and I will be visiting next week after just being there in July! But I will say, the carriage rides honestly ruin my trip. It makes me so sad seeing those overworked, abused horses. I've never ridden one and refuse to. They're not our slaves, and while I can appreciate trying to keep things like they were in the past on the Island, many things have changed and been updated so I'm not sure why they cannot find another means for transportation. I see workers of the island on bicycles as well, carrying luggage. They get to choose this job, and it employs people needing the money. Lets stop treating these horses like our slaves and get with the times. I mean, hasn't a Starbucks been added to the island? Yet we cannot work towards changing something more sustainable, and more compassionate? Please, you can make a difference by not riding these heavy carriages pulled by these horses by simply walking or riding a bike. Many of us were blessed with the tools we have to do these things ourselves. More...

בהחלט שווה More...

Loved the island, it was quite beautiful! The trails are well made, easy to walk. The city was very cool, and everything was very well kept. I do, however, have a few gripes. 1. There are very few water fountains, and for how long the trails are, this seems necessary2. Once you get on the trails, you are kinda aimless. We accidentally walked 10 miles because we got lost so many times. 3. This is a personal preference, but I'm not usually one for tourist traps. There were so many people here, and everything was over priced because of it. I dont think any of this is wrong, just not my speed. More...

Totally worth it for a weekend getaway. You can enjoy the drive also from Detroit to this island and ferry ride from Mackinaw city to the island. Try to be there during the less crowded times and in summer in may beginning would be a right time if you don't like lot of noise and crowd around. Try cycling around the island and visit the arch rock and fort. More...

Very clear water, a truly pleasant island, with horse back rides, bikes, a lot of food, and scenic views. Once, on the island, you can try kayaking which they some times restrict with a minimum rental time of 2 hours with a price tag of 40$ per person and per hour, or go for guided tour on horse wagons which takes up to 1 hour 50 mins, and also could get boring some times, but they do stop at 2 places “wings of Mackinac” which is a butter fly place, and the arch of Mackinac, which is absolute stunner with a breathtaking view, which I would place the top place for the view itself.

I’m a Michigan native and have been visiting the Upper Peninsula for 20+ years straight. Finally made my way to Mackinac Island this weekend. The ferry ride was tons of fun (especially for our 2.5 year old), walking around the island was easy and enjoyable for our family, loved seeing horses and bicycles everywhere, and there’s tons of history to take in. Yes I recommend visiting the island. However I hope there are buckets of water for the horses to drink from. My husband and I were at the island last summer and it was very humid and hot (because it was summer and it was expected) and several of the horses we saw appeared very sweaty, fatigued and extremely thirsty. We biked the entire island and other than having water in their stables where they eat and rest and another 1 huge bucket of water I saw at Mission Point Hotel, we did not see any other source for these horses to drink water from. There are water fountains for humans, at least make water buckets available for them all over the island too! Also I witnessed a morbidly obese man whipping the heck out of his horses. He was piloting a carriage with 2 horses and a huge load of hay. Yes granted that the load was very heavy but whipping them so hard that one of the horses let out a loud cry was extremely cruel and unnecessary. Most horse operators we saw would just gently and lightly tap their horses but this man was horrible! I would never want to witness anything like this again. Please reeducate the people working with your horses not to harm them in any way! More...
