Everything at Indy Counseling Professionals is great! Getting set up for my first appointment was easy, Barb at the front desk will greet you by name at every appointment, and it is a very comfortable home-like environment. Rachael is great. I leave every appointment with a sense of progress, and I know that over my few months of therapy I have a had definite improvement.

I saw Christie Clayton for over a year at this facility, and from my experience with her, I have come to learn that Clayton has a very biased agenda. After a year of success with her, I brought up an incident from my past in session which was particularly traumatic for me. She seemed rather frustrated with me as soon as I brought this up because she believed that such predicament was my own fault and thus invalidated my frustration over the traumatic event as she did my resistance to her ever-increasing blaming behavior, which was rather pushy and manipulative. At every effort I put forth in confronting her about this, she would give me a bogus psychobabble theory to justify, normalize, and continue her blaming behavior while disenfranchising my own thinking at the same time. This went on for about four excruciating sessions of dissing and blaming from Clayton, all of which eventually dysregulated my emotions to a critical low point that led me to decide to quit seeing her altogether. When told Clayton in our last session that I would no longer be seeing her, not only did Clayton seem shocked and indignant over my decision, but she manipulated me into believing that my decision was both irresponsible and narcissistic. My experience with Clayton in the last few weeks I saw her was so distressing that even today (two years after this incident in 2015) I still have to work with my current therapist to move past this horrific experience. Clayton practically added a traumatic event on top of the one I brought up to her in session, and would disregard my insistence that I was feeling extremely uncomfortable with the way she went about addressing this. Clayton’s neglect and lack of responsibility on this matter led me to make a report to the Attorney General, which took up the case but was unable to prosecute Clayton due to an unfortunate lack of evidence on my part, according to a letter I received from them. However, according to them, the case has not been dismissed because they do suspect that there was at least one violation of therapy practice in my unpleasant sessions with Clayton (based on the evidence they gathered) but they lack the evidence to take appropriate legal action.

To those of you considering to see Clayton (or any of the therapists in this facility who support her), I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere for treatment. This facility is far from "professional" as its name claims to suggest. By seeing Christie Clayton, you are putting your mental health at risk. It is interesting that Clayton loves stating that, "a patient is THE expert in their own lives," and yet when I took that license to quit seeing her for therapy, she apparently revoked her motto to invalidate my decision to discontinue sessions with her and my discomfort with her so called “approach” to therapy in our last sessions together, which were quite damaging to me and nothing short of untherapeutic. It is also interesting that Clayton loves calling patients out in session when she thinks they are being irresponsible about something, and yet she took no responsibility whatsoever for her own irresponsible license in this entire predicament.

To those of you seeking therapy, stay away from Christie Clayton and from Indy Counseling Professionals at all cost. They are not professional at all.
