Awesome one-on-one beginner and intermediate guitar lessons (Acoustic/Electric/Classical) Online or In Person: $35 - 30 minutes $50 - 45 minutes NOT YOUR TYPICAL GUITAR LESSONS: My lessons are different because rather than merely drilling for competence, I focus on nurturing the emotion that drives the desire to learn. I do that by getting to know each student’s “why” and tailoring our lessons accordingly - whether by using their favorite songs to learn important theoretical concepts, or playing with amps and drums to get the feel of playing in a band (for in-person lessons), or learning how to use the guitar to write their own songs. With over 15 years of experience, my mission has always been to get each student excited to learn so they can feel inspired to unlock their true potential and have a blast in the process. Genres: Folk, Fingerpicking, Rock, Punk, Hardcore Please visit my website for more details about me: www.guitarlessonswithjames.com
Helping people become guitarists is amazing. "Learning guitar" is fine, but being a guitarist is what we all really want. As guitarists, we turn to the instrument to satisfy a need: to express our emotions, to gather people at the party in a singalong, to rebel, to relax, etc. I love guiding people on their guitar path because, as guitarists, we live our most complete and best lives.
Learning guitar isn't about picking up a new skill. It's about becoming a cooler version of yourself. I don't mean "cooler" as in the high school popularity sense, but "cooler" as in leveling up in a way that makes you more unique and true to yourself.
Helping people achieve that transformation and the new mode of self-expression that it allows is so satisfying to me. That's why I started teaching guitar.
Because my students typically spend years with me, our connection transcends student-teacher. We become guitar friends, nerding out over music and creativity. I want my students to become better guitarists, for sure, but I've found that using the guitar to help them become the person they envision themselves to be is what lessons are really all about.
Yes, almost all of my students are online. People love the convenience of not having to leave their homes.
I've moved my lessons to Zoom, with great success. One of the things my students like the most is my use of screen sharing where I use my graphic design background to illustrate concepts in a visual way to increase understanding. It works wonders when communicating ideas such as strumming, chord structure, and composition.
