Q&As

My connection with a client and their goals is going to be encouraging, optimistic and realistic. I always begin with an interview to discuss a client's goals and a verbal health screening to learn about any medical issues. For safety reasons, medical clearance may be needed before undertaking an exercise program. After a physical assessment to determine a starting point, I work closely with the client to create a personalized program that includes individualized short term goal achievement toward longer range ultimate goals.

As a medical fitness specialist and personal trainer for older adults, the primary focus is on improving and maintaining functional fitness and wellness through exercise and lifestyle changes. A dream body in this case is a healthy functional and more attractive body.

I love seeing people improve their lives not only in fitness, but overall. Personal training often deals with the whole person. You learn about the stress in their lives, the ups and downs that are a part of life. You become a team. Many of my clients have had significant health problems and challenges so it is always rewarding to be a part of a client's success.

I worked for many years in community college, hospital and commercial health club settings so I got firsthand experience working with the type of people I could best serve. I eventually specialized in older adults and seniors because they were the most underserved in my community. I have been blessed with a very appreciative loyal group of clients, so I opened a private studio dedicated to serving them.

I have education and experience, but more importantly, I care about my clients, and I can relate to them. My clients are older, and I am also a mature trainer as well. To be very honest, if I believe I am a good fit for a client I will do everything I can to help them achieve their goals. I will also recommend another option to a prospective client if I believe it would better serve them.

I prefer doing a hybrid online coaching format so I can train clients from the same city or regional area. Online is very much a convenient and Covid safe option. I do prefer to meet in person at least periodically for assessments especially with medical needs clients. This also makes things a bit more personalized and technically safe which quality personal training is all about.

I screen all clients and take extra measures to keep a clean studio. My studio is private, and instruction is one on one which offers a lower Covid exposure risk than big fitness centers or gyms. Safety is a number one priority.
