Recently we took our family for a visit to The Rathskeller in Indianapolis to see, The Cosmic Romantic’s comedy and magic show. This charming duo brought us all back to what it must have been like to see traveling vaudevillian acts, complete with attitude and outfits, from the turn of the century. I hired The Cosmic Romantics (TCR) for my husband's birthday party with over 100 guests, hosted at the Palmer House. Half of my guests flew in from out-of-town and stayed overnight. Fantastic experience at all points! We hired Eric & Elizabeth to perform strolling magic for our company's party. How long have you been interested in magic?
We both have been interested in magic since we were children. In Eric's case, magic was forced on him (his father was a magician), and Elizabeth caught the bug when she got a magic kit for Christmas one year. They both pursued other interests in college and throughout their 20s, with Eric performing comedy around Chicago and Elizabeth earning rave reviews as a lead singer in the Long Beach music scene.
Take us through your show – what can we expect?
Depending on the engagement, we can do a "Stage Show" for a large audience at once, or "Strolling Magic" for small groups of guests as they mingle.
STAGE SHOW: We present a vaudeville-inspired blend of illusion, mentalism, comedy, music, and juggling, executed at the highest level and presented with a fun, fresh perspective. These shows are engaging, smart, and funny, a surefire hit for audiences young and old.
STROLLING MAGIC: A more closeup experience, magic is presented for small groups at a time, with the magic happening right in their hands (or minds)! Depending on the event, we can do strolling magic separately, to cover more groups/show off our personal styles, or we can stroll together, doing our signature mentalism routine known as "Second Sight," a true audience favorite.
What do you love most about your job?
The most satisfying part of being a magician is sharing that childlike sense of wonder that can only be achieved through a beautiful illusion. When we can get a room full of people's eyes to light up, or even one person to forget their troubles and get lost in the wonder, it's the absolute greatest feeling in the world.
What inspired you to start your own business?
When everything shut down in 2020 and our gigs grinded to a halt, we were both ready to give up on magic entirely. But then, after being friends for several years through the LA magic scene, we decided to team up for a show in late 2021, and soon after, we started dating... The world opened up for us after that, and now we truly feel invincible stepping on stage together. It makes the job more fun, and our shows have a more profound impact on audiences.
Why should our clients choose you?
We recently relocated from Hollywood to Chicago after the LA fires, but we bring with us a fresh approach to magic that was making big waves. Our vaudeville inspired show combines variety elements like singing, juggling, comedy, and mentalism that simply can not be replicated--it's lightning in a bottle. But most importantly, we have fun doing it! Together we fooled Penn and Teller on the season 10 premier of their hit CW show, and while that has absolutely been our career highlight, as the legendary magician Jack Goldfinger always tells us, "The best is yet to come."

In rare instances we have performed magic over Zoom, but our specialty is absolutely live performances, for audiences large or small.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We stopped performing in 2020 and used the time to retool our performance style. For the first gigs we performed after, we kept a mask on right until stepping on stage, when we were a safe distance from the audience. While magic is often participatory, we did not invite anyone to join us on stage for a very long time.

Elizabeth & Eric have performed strolling / roaming magic at intimate private parties and large gala events for companies like Google and U.S. Bank. They can table hop separately, performing for small groups at a time, showing off their individual closeup sleight-of-hand skills while engaging with guests in a memorable way. They can also table hop together, performing their staple mentalism act, a rare type of magic known as "second sight," which they performed on the TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us (and fooled them!).
