The ONE thing I was super stubborn about, was that I was NOT going to cheap out on photography for our wedding. Mae @Studio Grand Rapids 1000% proved exactly why. She made our engagement session so much fun and relaxed. We are both super awkward when it comes to taking photos, but she knew exactly what to do and how to pose us without even looking posed half the time. The wedding day was so great, and she captured everything and MORE than I could've imagined. The day goes by so fast, and seeing our gallery really brought it back to things we forgot about already. I loved my shoot with Mae. She is really easy to work with. She came with really great ideas but was also open to my suggestions as well. I have areas of my body that make me cringe, so I kind of shrank back into familiar 'poses' that I thought were 'better', but I'm so glad I listened to her guidance and stepped outside of my comfort zone. What do you love most about your job?
For me, each session is about so much more than just another date booking. Being behind the lens grants me this beautiful opportunity to connect with my clients on such a personal level, and each experience truly stays with me.
What inspired you to start your own business?
When I was growing up, my grandfather owned his own wedding photography studio in Phoenix, Arizona. I used to watch him in his studio, and whenever we went on vacation or little day trips, he would give me one of his secondary SLR cameras and would let me capture the experience from my own perspective. After his passing, all of my grandfather's equipment was endowed to me and I knew that after I graduated college, I'd take up where we left off together by starting my own studio.
