This place is the type of quiet and cozy restaurant that knows what they do well. The menu isn't extensive or experimental. There's a few types of pastas and a few types of meat and fish. I think my wife and I appreciate that approach. Everything we had was tasty and unfussy. We got an ahi chowder to share and I had the swordfish with a veggie and baked potato and she got the salmon with veggie and pasta. We split a bottle of wine we brought ($25 corkage fee) as well. What a great find! Our last night of our 1400 mile motorcycle trip! Just two doors down from our hotel. The vibe was great as was the food and service! My fettuccine alfredo with chicken was super! One of my favorite local spots! I moved to Costa Mesa in 2019 from the Inland Empire and I discovered Sol Grill right away - such a great place! It's casual dining yet super chic. A nice little hidden dinner spot I highly recommend,I took my partner here for a lovely Valentines dinner and not only was the waitress, cheerful but awesome and recommending a great sangria selection! Going to Sol Grill was a must during this girls' trip visit to Newport/Laguna Beach. My friends and I had a very special night here. We met Misty, the owner, and she was so warm & welcoming and the best hostess. My friends loved the ambiance and beautiful dining rooms. I requested to be seated by the windows and we were granted a perfect spot in the sunroom dining area. My friends ordered:-Grandma Jill's meatloaf. 5+/5. I ordered this and it was wonderful again! -Dijon mustard chicken 5+/5. My friend said that was great tasting with the gravy and so different and delicious with all of the ingredients.-Newport Linguini 5+/5. My other friend said that it was a super collection of sea food and the broth and linguine were amazing. We all raved about the deliciousness of our entrees. My meatloaf was tender and covered with a fantastic gravy. The side vegetables of asparagus, broccolini and whipped yummy potatoes completed the plateful of comfort food. Everything about Sol Grill makes it a unique and special place to have dinner. I will have friends and family return here again! Highly, highly recommend this lovely and cozy restaurant. Nice cozy family owned Italian restaurant in Newport Beach. It definitely has a quiet vibe which is great for a date night and easy conversing. Plenty of free parking space available shared with other business nearby. I give a Solid 5 Stars for customer service's upbeat attitude, 4 for the food taste quality, 4 for atmosphere, and 3 for the lack of cocktail options. We celebrated my friend's Bday dinner here a few weeks ago. We were a party of 5 and were given a table in a side room to the left on entrance.Am not much a pasta fan, and luckily the menu had several seafood options. Misty, the owner, Meagan behind the bar, to the staff in general. .. they all work really hard to make your dining experience a great one The atmosphere is elegant casual if that is a thing. And surprisingly, they have an up stairs for large groups. And a side room for 8+.. Give this place a try, you will not regret it. I had the filet and it was very, very good. We recently came to Sol Grill for a birthday celebration. Staff and service were fantastic. We had a rambunctious 2 year old with us and our server was so kind and patient with that, we also got our own semi private room near the bathroom which was so special for my birthday. Food wise all was fantastic, two of us had the filet, and then we also had the cioppino, swordfish and lamb chops. Everyone's plates were clean if that explains how good it was. Oh and the bread basket was warm and fluffy served with oil and vinegar. We ordered the clams appetizer and got more bread to soak up all the goodness of that dish. This is a fantastic restaurant. I had visited this property and location when it was a different restaurant, under a different name, but it is an understatement to say I love what they've done with the place. There is plenty of parking, and they had space for a large group of us. The interior is minimal, clean, very inviting, well lit, and with white walls and light woods. Very attractive and comforting. The food is even better. The dishes we all shared were wonderful. Great take on modern Italian cuisine. Best of all was the service here - fast, extremely friendly, and no special request went unfilled. Even better, our server wasn't even flustered in the least by a large group. What a great place to celebrate a birthday dinner with friends. I wouldn't hesitate giving five stars, and I definitely would not hesitate recommending this location and their delicious menu to those of you looking for a place to dine. More...

Manager's explanation for the pricing is the 30% fee Doordash (and I assume other delivery services) charge the restaurant to use their service. Still doesn't explain the disappointing food quality from my poor experience. And while all restaurants who contract with delivery services face the same issue, not all jack up their menu prices to otherwise over-compensate. Ultimately, however, food quality is the concern. First off, way too much lemon juice used in the Caesar dressing. Very off-putting taste Blackened chicken also had an odd taste and chicken was too chewy. Finally, 2 slices of included bread did not include butter pats. Despite the overall ratings for this place, grossly overpriced for what is received. $24 for just the blackened chicken salad and 4 bucks for a single can of soda is just ridiculous! Wow!
