I started in the construction business when I was a teenager. Working as a framer's helper. I then progressed to working on a framing crew as a full member.
So unlike most designers who have no construction experience prior to becoming a designer. I come at it with practical field knowledge on how to construct a home and the issues you may run into while building. I have also spent many years training under some of the best custom home designers in the Houston and Texas market.
Using those combined skills, and by being a smaller firm, I am able to bring a custom home design or remodel design to the customer at a lower price than the large firms I trained with. I do not take every job that comes to me. I take jobs based on the availability of my schedule.
I am very straightforward with clients about their projects when we first meet. If they have a ballpark budget and want more than what their budget will cover, I will make suggestions or revise designs to get them there or tell them it isn't possible, and we need to scale back.
After all, why waste your time and money designing a house you cannot afford to build.
