Good ramen but nothing super special. I would recommend trying the spicy one which I enjoyed the most of the different ones ordered. The broth was well done but the noodle quality was average. Good place to go if you are craving ramen but there are more special places to go to. Overall, it was worth trying and I wouldn't mind going back occasionally. More...

Recently went for dinner at Ramen Yamadaya. It is located in the heart of Japantown. I once went to Japan for a week. I have always appreciated Japanese food & culture. There are some popular Ramen spots in Japantown some w/ restaurants that are packed full w/ long line queues going out clear into the street w/ folks waiting for a warm bowl of Ramen in the little bit cool San Franciscan streets.Luckily at Ramen Yamadaya there wasn't too long a wait. It is located on the second floor. There is only one Vegan Ramen on the menu so that made deciding what to order simple for this longtime vegan. Besides the vegan Ramen there were several vegan plant strong appetizers & small plates on the menu yet opted for just the Vegan Ramen. After some time the Vegan Ramen arrived. It was quite alright. The Vegan Ramen broth was made w/ house made miso, cashew butter, & sesame butter. It was a rich & creamy broth. The Vegan Ramen also came w/ firm tofu, kabocha squash, yams, corn, spinach, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, & nori. The Vegan Ramen hit the spot. Besides the nourishing bowl of Vegan Ramen I appreciated the ambience as the music was hip. An eclectic array of tunes from Beatles to Pink Floyd to 90s Alternative so kudos for whoever was playing the music as felt like they had a good taste in music that seems unlikely to hear while dining on Vegan Ramen in a great ramen spot in the heart of Japantown! While there are other places in Japantown that I would like to check out Vegan Ramen I wouldn't hesitate to return to Ramen Yamadaya for some Vegan Ramen along w/ hopefully some more interesting listening to an eclectic array of music. For tunes & Vegan Ramen this is the place to be! More...

Tiny ramen shop in a tiny strip mall that is serving up some huge flavor! Â I don't live too close but whenever I'm in the area Ramen Yamadaya is definitely on my list of top eats. Â That deeply unctuous broth is always just so savory and spot on with flavors that it forces me to keep coming back for more and more. Â The pork belly in my go-to Kakuni is sometimes hit or miss. Â It's been either really moist and tender or super dry and tough. Â It does however always come out as a huge portion so it has that always going for it. Â Be sure to ask for spice and fresh garlic on the side as it takes this ramen up another level. Â Cheers!P.S. Parking can be a pain since their lot is small and there may be a wait depending on the time you go FYI. More...

My wife and I come here just about every week. It might not have been our first date but it has been our 3rd through 60th date! The staff has always been courteous and friendly to us creating a warm and welcoming environment. Their management is top of the line. We can't recommend this restaurant enough. In fact, we love them so much that we had our wedding reception here just under a month ago!I personally always get the spicy ramen and it has been, by far, the spiciest ramen I've had in this city. I've tried other places and often they warn me about their spice level, but it is nothing like what you can get at Ramen Yamadaya (specifically, the San Francisco Ramen Yamadaya). I love it. The presentation is beautiful, they are one of few places I know who will give you an egg at all, let alone an entire egg. They don't skim on the chashu or the vegetable goodies. You want more noodles? Kaedama, please. My wife generally always gets their Yamadaya ramen which, I can say, she is equally in love with. It makes for a happy time on a foggy, cold San Francisco day.We both recommend this cozy place for a delicious bowl of ramen put together by a friendly and welcoming staff. My wife and I will be back, that is for sure, and if you are looking for a place to eat we would definitely recommend Ramen Yamadaya. More...

Not every meal is supposed to blow you away...If they did, we'd weigh over 300 lbs !Coming to Japantown, I know there's no shortage of ramen places, so choosing a place will induce some thought and reflection.  The new places make it awfully difficult to steer to the older, neighborhood places, but I resisted the temptation in having a weekday lunch here.  This used to be an udon place Iroha that was one of our post softball dinner spots.  Walking up the set of steps, you get a treehouse sense when you reach the top.  There are booths along the walls and tables lined in the middle.  The large windows make the restaurant well lit during lunch.  The host seated us at a window booth and gave us a couple of menus each.We both ordered the lunch special; my lunch special started with my choice for chicken Kara-age (3 pieces) and gyoza (2 pieces) (yelp.com/user_local_phot…); generous portions and both were cooked crispy which paired well with the dipping sauces.  For my ramen selection, I selected the spicy miso ramen (yelp.com/user_local_phot…) which comes with chashu, 1/2 ajitama egg, kikurage, and Tokyo negi (glad their menu is descriptive); I believe the corn wasn't extra.  The noodles were nicely cooked and served with a solid broth; don't expect a gourmet bowl of ramen as it is in line with more local SF standards than those more recently opened Japan based places.  But hey, for the price, what did you expect?!  $15.00 plus drink included?!  Definitely would consider a lunch rotation spot if I worked in the area.Service was efficient and more workman like as water glasses were refilled and empty plates and bowls promptly removed.  Nice to rediscover this location which brought back memorable meals.Solid meal option if lines to those trendy places are long and your stomach is talking to you. We went in for a table for two on Tuesday at noon. We walked in and there was no one inside so we got to choose our own seat. We sat in the middle table along the windows. For me, Spicy Miso (Fire) Ramen and my friend ordered Yamadaya Ramen. We also ordered two appetizers (pork gyoza and regular kara-age). The appetizers came out fast, the kara-age was hot and really delicious. The gyoza was nothing special but I like how they put chili on the side. The ramen presentation was beautiful. The broth was very rich, it was a little salty to me (I'm sensitive to salt) but I still drank it. The pork belly in the ramen was a little hard to chew for me, it was soft but I definetely had to really bite down to get a piece off. The egg in the ramen was also salty to me, resulting in not being able to eat it. I really like the spicy taste to it. I picked up a little to try with the kara-age and it tasted delicious! I asked my feiend about her ramen, and she said it really hit the spot.TLDR; -Regular Kara-age was delicious-Gyoza was okay, comes with chili-Spicy Miso (fire) was delicious, pork belly was hard to chew, egg was salty. -Yamadaya Ramen = hits the spot More...

I've recently become big into ramen and love trying new places to see what is best. Being vegetarian I'm always trying the vegan option or whatever is veg. Here they had a vegan option which had a tasty broth, which many will lack. I wouldn't say it was the most best ramen ever - it could have used more spice and maybe a little bit more tofu/other veggies. The noodles are thinner than some ramen places, but I liked that change. I also ordered the veg gyoza which I found to be delicious! The friends that I went with enjoyed the other non-veg options. We all came to the same consensus though: it needed more spice. We all have different tolerances and ordered accordingly, so we were slightly disappointed on that front. We found that the "dinner" option in the ramen section was definitely worth the $20. You got your choice of ramen, 1 of two app choices, and tea or pop. It was a cool place with a great ambiance which is why I gave it 4 stars. Everyone there was extremely friendly and kept us updated on where we were on the waitlist. Without the cool atmosphere in unique area of Japantown I would say it's more of a 3/3.5. Worth checking out at least once! More...
