I'm writing this review as both a daughter and a caregiver, based on ongoing conversations with my mom and what I’ve personally observed throughout her time working with Nathan, founder of Practice Fitness. My mom’s condition is complex—she deals with muscle weakness, limited coordination, and balance challenges. From the start, Nathan has shown genuine patience and compassion. We keep him informed as her condition evolves, and he continues to adapt her training program based on our input. He always meets her where she is, adjusts as needed, and tailors the program to fit her unique needs. Nathan is incredibly knowledgeable and wise beyond his years. He can speak confidently and clearly on anything related to body mechanics, and he draws from real experience—not just textbook knowledge. One of the things that stands out most is his ability to communicate. The body is complex, and my mom’s health adds another layer, but he explains things in a way that’s easy to understand. He’s calm, direct, and approachable—even when the topics are sensitive. We trust Nathan deeply, and that trust is built on his professionalism and work ethic. My mom currently trains three times a week, and Nathan is consistent, punctual, and dependable. His attendance has been nearly perfect, and the few times he has needed to reschedule, the reasons have been completely understandable. When my mom has to miss a session due to health reasons, he always responds with empathy and flexibility. Even with the complexity of my mom’s condition, Nathan provides a real training program—challenging yet safe. Before working with Nathan, she went through several rounds of physical therapy, but those programs felt overly basic and rigid. Nathan’s approach is different: it’s personalized, flexible, and far more effective. And while we understand he’s a small business owner and operates with more freedom than a traditional provider, that’s exactly what makes his service so valuable. What also makes Nathan unique is that he offers in-home personal training, brings all the equipment, and has solid experience working with older adults—particularly those 65 and up. That’s incredibly rare in the Piedmont area. When we first started looking, most of what we found were virtual trainers, which just wasn’t realistic for a 75-year-old woman with minimal tech experience. Finding Nathan was a huge relief. Earlier this year I found myself at a health crossroad. My blood pressure had been higher than normal for over a year. I was already on medication which in the past had worked well to keep the readings normal.
My doctor suggested additional medication. I did not want to go that route, so I asked her if I could try exercise to bring it down naturally. She agreed.
That’s when I signed up with Nathan at Practical Fitness. In our initial meeting, he asked me to establish my goals. I had 3: 1) bring my blood pressure down so that I wouldn’t need additional meds, 2) become stronger in order keep up with my very active grandchildren, and 3) lose 5-10 pounds.
With Nathan’s extremely knowledgeable coaching, personalized exercise program, and diet recommendations, I am thrilled to say after only 3 months my blood pressure is now 120/84–almost perfect! My doctor is thrilled! I am stronger and more confident in my balance and my ability to keep up with the kiddos. And I lost a few pounds. On top of all these benefits, inches of fat have turned into muscle!
Although Nathan offers in-home coaching and instruction, my personalized program was built and executed with no in-person interaction. This was especially attractive to me during a year of a global pandemic. All of our meetings were held via phone and video calls. Using his software, I was able to exercise at my preferred time, which often varied from workout to workout.

Nathan interviewed me in depth about current capabilities, limitations, and my goals. He then carefully planned a workout around these responses and tweaked it to suit my needs and abilities. What do you love most about your job?
I love the 'personal' aspect of being a personal trainer. As a mobile trainer that sees my clients at their home, I love getting to know everybody and getting everybody in the house involved and interested in a healthy lifestyle.

I where a mask and sanitize equipment for each client. I also keep clients up to date on if any of clients were to show any symptoms.
