OT Bay Builders did work on the exterior of my home last spring and summer and they were wonderful to work with! I first met Mauricio when he came out to look at the projects I had in mind (replacing multiple decks, fences and pavers) and to give me a bid. He was friendly, knowledgeable and very, very thorough. He explained various possibilities for each of the areas that needed work and explained the pros and cons of each. I was impressed from our first meeting. I'd gotten several other bids, but Mauricio was the most knowledgeable and instilled confidence that this was the company to work with. He completely worked with my timeline and was accommodating in every sense of the word. He answered calls and texts promptly and was excellent at keeping me updated throughout the process. Mauricio guided me through not only decision making when requested, but was able to explain all of the various choices and costs for each area, so I could make informed decisions as to where to spend a little more and where I could save a little money. When things came up (as they often do with construction projects) he was always able to pivot and come up with a solution in his calm and efficient way. He never missed a beat. His manner and temperament made him wonderful to work with. He made everything, including the paperwork for contracts, changes and payments so easy, explaining everything, each step of the way. We recently completed a full home remodel with a 400 sq ft addition through OT Bay Builders. The project was a complete gut, and even though another company handled the architectural plans, Tom and his team immediately noticed several mistakes in those plans before construction began. They were transparent about the issues, helped us correct them, and kept the process moving smoothly. Throughout the remodel, communication was excellent -- we always knew what was happening and when. The crew was professional, detail-oriented, and the quality of the work shows in every corner of the house. Toss in some accusations. Gaslight and bully them. You'll never learn and get better if you don't own your mistakes and failures. You don't have to tell your customers you're making them happy. Tom, it doesn't look like you read the review. I said your workers are on video drinking and they left their beer bottles and cans behind. Maybe you think that's appropriate? Apparently you think using the wrong materials, poor craftsmanship, not showing up when you are contractually supposed to, not having materials to do a job with, threatening a customer, and the customer having to hire another electrician to redo your electrician's "work" because it didn't meet code requirements is what a contractor is supposed to do. So glad you've clarified how you still do business by stating that you think this is respectful and how a job is supposed to get done. Hopefully no one else will trust you like I did. Yes, it was 2 years ago, but after the slats you guys put on the top of the pergola started falling off this Summer and need replacing, I thought I might finally put in that review- out of pure frustration with still having to fix your bad work. Seeing other recent reviewers experiencing similar craftsmanship and work ethic, and that I'm still having to pay to clean up your mess, it looks like OT Bay Builders still operates the same way. Instead of putting your foot down and insisting your PM did the right things, take a step back and change how you do things. Your previous PM threatening me, then promising everything, then not doing what he said he'd do in writing was the most abusive relationship I'd ever been in. I needed OT Bay Builders gone, fast. I realized that I should never be paying for this, so I ended the relationship. I paid you, but there was no end walkthrough and I didn't sign your paperwork. The week the electrical was done, I told your finance person that we had to redo the electrical because it was dangerous, already didn't work, and it wasn't done to code. Workmanship is extremely subpar requiring rework and still not as expected on a simple bay window new construction bay window. Carpentry finish work used recycled wood from demolition pile. Leadman reported done and had to redo all the exterior and interior carpentry finish work (still subpar). Stucco replacement did not match. Had to micromanage. 5 day job quote Exceeded 5 weeks. If I could give negative stars, I would. The job eventually got done, but not without property damage, 8 times the amount of time it was supposed to take, more than 20% more than the original contract budgets, I had to do work myself and purchase all the hardware because they clueless, and after I fired them, I had to hire a roofing company because they collapsed my metal roof in places, an electrical company to come in, rip everything out that their "electrician" installed, and reinstall it to code. Because some of the electrical was hidden in cased posts, I had to deconstruct, then reconstruct it myself. I also asked the company that laid the new patio to come back and fix OT's mistakes. In the end, they were awful. I still need to replace the crappy twisted and bent wood they used to go across the top of the pergola. Threats, lies, demands, employees drinking on the job, can't cut a straight line, incompetence all around. I told OT before they started, we have cameras. One was in the 2nd floor window above where the workers would go to hide and drink, away from the other camera that was on the corner of the house where they were primarily working. So, I have pictures and videos. Don't bother trying to lie your way out of this. Your boys even left their beer cans and bottles on my side walkway for show. There was 1 person in the whole construction crew who seemed to know what he was doing- the 1 carpenter. They got paid, and were paid according to the contract. Worst 1 week-turned 2+ months of my life. The owner's nephew or grandson (family member in some capacity) came out and gave a quote for length of time and price. He was the PM. Timeline was 1 week. Start date was in 1 month. I sent them the specs and drawing for what needed to be done, everything looks good on paper. Contract signed. No show on the start date- turns out the PM was on vacation for 10 days.. No one called me to say the start date would be pushed back. Our contract was broken by OT before it even started.. not a good sign. The PM finally comes back from vacation, we go over the ground layout again, the footings had already been installed under the brand-new patio and they were marked out in bright yellow and pink for everyone to see. It's determined that they'll start in 2 days. The next day I notice an issue that needs immediate attention and has nothing to do with OT- they hadn't even started yet. They were going to be here anyway, so I called and asked them if they could do this project too while they were here. Guy comes out, we got a quote and a time line of 3 days. Fine, contract signed. They decide to do this new project first which I'm totally fine with. No one shows on the start date. We agree to a new start date. People show up, but no tools, no wood.. and they leave after about 90 mins, leaving their lunch garbage behind. About 10 days later that project is done- They bent the gutters, collapsed my metal roof in places, installed the T-11 siding crooked and there was a 2", v-shaped gap in the top corner of the chimney. They installed the corner molding and left the gap. I had them come back to put up an additional piece of molding to cover the gap. T-11 still crooked, but I'm trying to just get it finished. They also used 1/2" z-flashing between pieces- I know, the whole damn thing should be replaced- but these guys- I've already paid the 10%- they can't all be this awful, right? I looked up their license, CA State said it was legit. The very crooked siding isn't completely noticeable unless you look at the top where the groove lines don't match!! So unprofessional. The original project was next and was just like the first. It did not take 1 week as planned and was spread out over 3 weeks. Long story short- they didn't know how to build a pergola, how to attach it properly with a water barrier to a house, how to attach posts to a footing through pavers. On the first day they showed up without wood (for a wooden pergola). I had to supply the ties, bolts, screws, gaskets base brackets, and anchor bolts. Even though we had gone over the plans THAT DAY and multiple times before that day, and there was bright pink and yellow chalk outlining the very large footings- they CUT thru my brand new, newly installed patio pavers, instead of drilling through them as we had discussed at least 10 times, including earlier that day before work had begun. He asked me to purchase shingles myself from Home Depot or Lowe’s, and when I asked for guidance on which brand to choose, he simply said "any is fine. " He mentioned a waterproofing material would be used, but when I asked to see it beforehand, he told me he would show me once the project started. OT Bay Builders did an amazing job on our bathroom. We had an extremely tight timeline, but they worked hard to get it done before the deadline. Even though it's a small space, it looks and feels like a luxury spa. From the chic tile, matte black finishes and custom storage cabinet, our designer Christina went above and beyond. We had her pick out a floating vanity herself, as we had no idea what would look good and we absolutely love what she chose! The crew that worked on everything else was equally talented. The plumbing, electrical, tiling and finishing work was done with precision and expertise. Our rainfall shower and sprayers are amazing! The tile is absolute perfection. We ran into some water damage from years of neglect from previous owners; this was no problem for OT Bay Builders. They replaced the damaged framing and stucco in a few days, like it never happened. Ron, our project manager, was there to oversee the work and kept us informed daily of what was going on, he was there for every step and offered solutions when small problems did arise.
