He was referred to me a few years ago when my older sister and I were in need of the following: a Will, Power of Attorney, Patient Advocate, Living Will (when to terminate life support), Funeral Directive, Quit Claim, etc. I was to be the one helping her, but I didn't know where to start. One of my main concerns was to AVOID Probate because my younger brother died a while back and I was appointed his Personal Representative, and since a few of his forms were not up-to-date or were missing --- I had to suffer through Probate. John met with us, asked many relevant questions, made good notes, made some excellent suggestions and had us give him the input needed to develop all of the documents necessary in the event of her passing. Although others have had a positive experience with this estate planning attorney, John Tatone, in my own opinion/experience, he was not very helpful or even decent. Mr. Tatone didn’t actually listen to a word that I said. He literally told me flat out that he didn’t care what my unmet legal needs were and literally stated that it was not of his concern. He was only interested in doing an exorbitant estate plan for myself and my husband. Before attempting to get my approval first, he shoved an expensive invoice in my face for payment! I agree with Zachary's experience. I'm sure Mr Tatone will ATTEMPT to place the blame on me, just like he tried to place the blame on Zachary's deceased mother, too. Mr Tatone was hired as the attorney for the HOA where I lived. He represented the board in their attempt to sue me for things I did not do while performing as a board member for pretty much free. The case was dismissed in the end. While trying to sell my house during this (because his clients harassed me so badly my doctor's said I needed to move or they'd stop treating me; the harassment was counterproductive to my treatment), Tatone REFUSED to give me a payoff letter, claiming I owed money for legal fees (HE WAS BILLING ME FOR SUING ME! That's absurd in itself but he was doing so without obtaining a judgment). The bylaws say residents are billed legal fees for COLLECTIONS, but I was NEVER behind on my dues. No matter how many times I tried to tell him this, he tried to tell ME I was the one who was wrong. He claimed to know association law, but didn't, because he didn't even read the bylaws, & had no idea the complex was governed by the nonprofit Corp act! Plus, I'm on disability & he couldn't get a judgment against me if he won because he couldn't attach disability income, or my main home. He said "if you think that's true, sign an agreement then!" I'm not a big enough fool to do something that will make him look or feel like he won. The judge CONFIRMED what I said & he kind of mumbled that he told his clients that. Hmmm? Then why did they keep wasting the associations funds?There were 3 things he was claiming in the lawsuit & REPRESENTING MYSELF I was able to get 2 of them DISMISSED and was filing to dismiss the 3rd, which the judge had ALREADY said she'd never order (something absurd like not allowing me to speak to my neighbors about the board, but judge said since they're elected we have to discuss them, I believe). In the end, he didn't give me the letter so I could sell my house until the VERY LAST DAY my buyer could be out of hers before she had to pay another month rent & reschedule the movers (so she was worried she'd be homeless with her little boy & I thought I'D have to pay HER daily rent). And the lawsuit was dismissed - but I'm sure he made a ton of money from the association! Another woman who inherited her mom's place when she passed away had NO IDEA she had to pay assoc dues & got behind. She is on disability also & doesn't even drive because she can't afford car insurance. Tatone sent her a letter saying she had to pay it ALL AT ONCE. She asked to make payment arrangements. He refused & threatened to take her home. Later he offered arrangements she could in NO WAY afford & told her to sell her furniture to raise the money and eat Mac & Cheese on the floor until it was paid off. And yes, Zachary, he's called me names & been very crude. He also tried to blackmail me, knowing I needed the letter for my house - he said I could sign a settlement agreement that day, or we could go to court, thinking he'd force me. Once I mentioned blackmail, I got the letter.He also called my closing company & told my closer that he needed a copy of my closing statement - which is HIGHLY ILLEGAL or at LEAST UNETHICAL! He had that woman in tears because she thought she was going to be fired once my real estate agent called her boss yelling. He did that so he could see HOW MUCH I WAS GETTING BACK AT CLOSING! That was none of his business!Don't hire him! He's a backstabber, and he'll SAY he's familiar with the type of law you need and then use you as a guinea pig! He's a collection attorney (but, he told one of the treasurer's she could collect from someone filling bankruptcy, sooo...)The guy is a greasy, slimy snake & the type of lawyer that gives all lawyers a bad name! I don't know how he sleeps at night. Now watch... He'll respond &p blame it all on me just like he did on Zachary's deceased mom for "not planning her estate properly" & any other negative reviews.
