Ismael was running a great sale for his photoshoots and I booked him off the strength of his portfolio. Being a Black woman, I was hesitant because I've learned not all photographers are well versed in shooting on darker skin tones. Ismael blew it out of the park! The photos, even untouched, were exactly what I had imagined in my head. He was very encouraging and even during little hiccups throughout the shoot, was accommodating and willing to pivot. Choosing the photos was so difficult because he really understands what it takes to get a good photo (I ended up buying more because I couldn't resist). Lastly, I love that he was willing to experiment and it is evident he loves what he does. I plan to rebook with him in the spring so we can capture some outdoor photos. However, I have officially found my new photographer in New York. I first met Ish when he photographed my sister’s wedding. The photos were so beautiful that I hired him the next year to photograph my own! His documentary style perfectly captured the spirit of both of our events, and his calming presence at my own wedding put my spouse and I at ease. Our guests were impressed with how unobtrusively he captured the GORGEOUS shots of our ceremony and celebrations—his photos were intimate and lively (and plentiful!), and yet he magically doesn’t appear in any of our guests’ shots. Ismael is a delight to work with and a consummate professional. He was the photographer at our wedding and captured the vibe perfectly (see photos). He also did our engagement shoot and was game to photograph us with our silly additions (using a bunch of kale instead of a flower bouquet, unconventional locations for the shoot, etc.). This is the second time I've used Ismael as a photographer, and I hired him again because the results the first time were so outstanding. I usually hate pictures of myself--I have a reputation amongst friends and family as having an "anti-picture" face--but there were actually so many good shots I had a hard time choosing! Both times I hired him for commercial/publicity shoots--I'm a composer and had important concerts coming up each time--but ended up having some I could use personally as well. His rates are very reasonable--as an artist I couldn't afford many photographers I found on the internet--and you get way more than you pay for in terms of quality and professionalism. He was willing to tweak the tiniest things I had a problem with--stray hairs here and there, folds in clothing--and was a master at blending and erasing imperfections in the shot or in me, as well as leaving in just what I directed him to. And to top it all off, he couldn't be a nicer guy--he's very easy to work with, accommodating, and goes above and beyond to do an excellent job. You'll want to be friends after the shoot! We are beyond grateful to Ismael for generously volunteering his time and talent to photograph our students on their prom day. Our school, iHOPE serves students with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and multiple disabilities, and prom is one of the most joyful and meaningful days of the year for our community. Ismael didn’t just take pictures he captured the spirit of the day. His photos are powerful, full of light and emotion, and so beautifully showcase the individuality and joy of each student. I’ve never done any sort of photo shoot before. So needless to say I was very nervous because I’m definitely not photogenic lol but that was prior to working with Ismael. However throughout the entire session ( I booked a 90 min session.) He made me feel very comfortable and the entire process was very welcoming and easy going. Ismael is a fabulous collaborator. He thinks out of the box during the session and continually checks- in to make sure the client is getting what they need out of the session.
