We decided to come here for dinner on Easter Sunday since we were coming from out of town visiting our daughter who attends CSUMB. I was able to make our reservations ahead of time via email, thanks to Tim Muse for being so efficient responding back to your guests. Your ENTIRE  staff in the restaurant were all super nice. Dinner was absolutely amazing. We started off with their Fried calamari as our appetizer followed by their mixed greens & strawberry salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and bits of bacon I think we tasted, served with their strawberry vinaigrette... all I can say was WOW. So much flavor.For my dinner entree , I had their King salmon with their pea risotto off their Easter special menu, OMG so so good. The salmon filet was cooked crispy on the outside just the way I like mine to be cooked. Our server whom I didn't catch her name ( you had braided pig tails) you were frick'n amazing!! Not happy at all with Gusto and the way they run this place. We ordered takeout for a decent experience and we didn't get that at all. We ordered 2 pizza pies, 1 ravioli dish, 1 garlic bread dish and an apple salad and couple of gelatos. We were told by the online ordering system pickup was going to be 30-35 mins. So my family went to pick up the food and half the food wasn't ready. We had no problem waiting a reasonable time but the order wasn't ready till another 20 mins easily which is crazy. We understand waiting for a bit sometimes but either give the proper time ahead of pickup or give a heads up that times will vary. My moms pasta and the pizzas were done but just hanging out on a table and literally one of the dishes waited on was the salad. We waited a whole hour basically from when we placed the order. We asked for a discount for the inconvenience and we got excuses/rudeness from the staff such as "it's our computer system and we can't help you". Finally after we spoke again and told them it's not fair to us "ok we will give a discount, but they weren't sure how much yet". My family left with the food back to our hotel and crazily they didn't provide any silverware, plates as we even specified while ordering because we are residing in a hotel. My mother's ravioli was barely lukewarm in which she couldn't eat it really and my brothers salad was not as good. He called it "a salad that you can get from the store". The pizzas were decent but not as warm. Not happy at all. From the poor excuses and service to food not very well prepared or timely provided and not including needed silverware and plates, not worth it. Whenever people come down to visit the Monterey area, I always take them to Gusto's because of their consistently amazing dishes.  The appetizers are stellar (esp. the antipasti) the fresh made pasta is outstanding, the chicken is always moist and tender, and really there isn't a bad dish to be found in the whole menu. Staying in Seaside for a cycling event we went in search of a great Italian restaurant - in this case we found pizza along with pasta. We started with their fresh focaccia bread with an olive tapenade along with an excellent beet salad that was perfectly blended.  Then moved on to a Margarita pizza that was simple; but amazingly delicious.  It had a thin crust (although a thick crust is available) that didn't leave you bloated and was served on a porcelain dish instead of the typical metal plate.   Every ingredient tasted fresh & exploded in your mouth.  For dessert we chose Tiramisu.  OMG. It was so good, we practically licked the cup it came in!The restaurant is clean & organized and the staff is very friendly.I wish we lived in Seaside just so we could eat here regularly!!I highly recommend Gusto. Was craving pasta and this was the first restaurant that popped up. Let me tell y'all, this place is delicious!! The customer service is also outstanding! ! I would like to thank Mayra for being such a fantastic server!! She was extremely kind and efficient in getting everything we ordered out! I had Gustos and really loved it- I found out I was allergic to Gluten- so I ordered the Gluten free pasta, it was horrible and I paid for it- I threw it away, as my pasta dish had little to none pasta sauce- never again!

Pros: Service and pizza was good. Cons: Spaghetti and meatballs was a disappointment. Not worth the price.  Stay away! The noodles were over cooked and soggy. The sauce tasted right out of the can, and the meatballs were basically the frozen ones you can get at the grocery store. My boyfriend ordered the Parm Chicken - it was a disgrace to parm chicken. Chicken was dry and the noodles he ordered with were soggy too. Also bread with oil (oil was good) and garlic bread was not impressive. You're better off cooking it yourself instead of spending $$ here or just going for the pizza only. We spent over $100 here and for the quality it was not worth it. More...

Visited last night. My wife and I visit the Monterey Peninsula regularly. It's nice to know that there is an upscale Italian place without the upscale pretension in a family oriented and non touristy area. Atmosphere is kind of like trattoria meets Chillis in a good way. We had the pizza and pasta de mare. Very busy night. Waitstaff overloaded but kept demeanor and very accommodating and unnecessarily apologetic. Thanks for a great night and a wonderful find. 04MAR2022 We brought our 8 yo daughter and her best friend in for supper this evening and we had a lovely time. The girls inhaled their pizza except for 2 slices. Best friend said she didn't like sausage on her pizza, but she humored have and tried the sausage and fell in love! We also ordered the braised rib ravioli and it was delightful! The limoncello cocktail remains my favorite, but we also tried the jalapeño margarita and it was one of the best we have ever had. I read the reviews after I ate here and wondered if I was in the same place. This was the worst experience I've had in a restaurant in a long, long time. We got there at 5pm, a party of six, three of us children ages 5,5 &8. We were hoping for a quick dinner. The restaurant was less than half full. We ordered appetizers and salads. They were a little slow in coming but they were quite good; especially the beet salad. Then it took an HOUR for our entrees to arrive. The kids were starving and we actually begged the waiter to at least bring them food. The waiter refused. The two 5 year olds were crying.While we were waiting a foursome with an infant was seated at the next table. One of the men was wearing a shirt that read "I CAN SH*T A BETTER PRESIDENT "(but without the asterisk) I suppose he thought he was going out for dinner and this was his best shirt but I was appalled. Politics aside, how does a family restaurant seat someone wearing a blatantly vulgar shirt? He needed to be told to turn it inside out or put on a jacket. But hey, I guess that pretty much confirms that this is NOT a place for kids. When we finally got our entrees, the cacio e peppe I ordered was nothing more than spaghetti with butter. The kids food was ok. The carbonara was the best dish. But by the time the food came we were frustrated and upset. When we ordered our dinners we told the waiter we need two orders of spaghetti and meatballs to go. He told us to wait and order it when our entrees came. So we did. We'll it took another HOUR to get those orders. By then Mr Vulgar Tee Shirt had enjoyed a few drinks and his language was matching his shirt. We were begging for our food. I mean, honestly, you know the meatball, the sauce, and the spaghetti were already cooked. All they needed to. Do was dish them in to containers. I felt like we were being held hostage. The kids were exhausted. The adults felt tortured.. it was a horrible experience. To top it off, my granddaughter was performing in a school program and because of this miserable restaurant, we missed her performance. My favorite restaurant. Every meal is better than the one before. Visited Saturday with my sister for lunch. (BTW so happy they open for lunch now. ) I had the short ribs lunch with veggies and my sis had the artichoke truffle raviolis ( always a favorite).  This was my first time ordering the short ribs and they were top notch. Our waiter was also outstanding. Just wanted to mention how excited we were to read about the meal boxes you can order to prepare some of your favorites at home. Visited this restaurant for the first time this weekend and could definitely tell it was a local spot!  My partner and I ordered Calamari, the Carmel Valley Apple Salad, Tagliolini di Scampi, and a Pepperoni Pizza.  We had been walking around and adventuring the whole day, but this amount of food was perfect for us! The putanesca sauce on the side of the calamari was tasty and I kept coming back for more.  The salad was great and they were flexible in making substitutions.  The pasta and pizza were a match made in heaven being eaten together.  We also ordered a spiked berry lemonade and a jalapeño margarita.  All the food came out in a timely fashion and the wait staff was hospitable!  Definitely coming back here again if passing through Seaside! Love this place! I went here about a year and a half ago for the first time with a friend and came back last night with my family. They were very friendly and accommodating. Often times that's not the case when you come with small kids. Our waitress even offered to put in the order for our hungry three year old in right away which I appreciated and she devoured her spaghetti and meatballs when they came out. I've eaten here four times and am always satisfied. Their food is sourced really well, making it a cut above your average restaurant. For an appetizer, I suggest either the meatballs or the mozzarella cheese board. Their meatballs are made of certified black angus, and are incredibly juicy. Meanwhile their cheese board comes with a variety of mozzarellas, including one made from buffalo milk that I die over. Unfortunately, the waitress says she'll have to kill me if she tells me where they get it.I've only had their pizzas and pastas and am always satisfied. If I'm being honest, it's never quite *perfect,* often being undersalted. But regardless, I'm always impressed with the quality of the food.There's only one major gripe I have about Gusto. They serve their carbonara pasta with a raw egg yolk sitting on top, which they stir into the pasta table side. Guys, I get it, people think it looks cool. But it's noooooot the right way to make carbonara! When you mix in the egg like that, it doesn't let the sauce emulsify, and you end up with a greasy mess on the plate. Based on the neighborhood, we were expecting a casual pizza joint. There's a Taco Bell, Dollar Tree, and a few motels nearby. We were surprised when they asked if we had a reservation, especially when we arrived at 4:30 pm on a Saturday.The service was attentive. The pizza was a nice size for 2. The sauce was canned from Marzano (they are very proud of this, as mentioned throughout the menu).They're trying to add some flair to the neighborhood, but it's not authentic, but posing as such. When we got to Gusto the wait for a table was about 20-30 mins. So we decided to eat at the bar since there were seats available. Our server was nice and helpful. The 1st time we went to Gusto, the kitchen was fast, the food was delicious, and our server was on top of it (I wish I had noted his name). The 2nd time, the kitchen was fast, the food was delicious, but our server Felix was disappointing. I ordered the chicken parmigiana. The menu says "served with spaghetti marinara or alfredo". Wow. What a neat place off the beaten path. It's in sort of ...uh not the touristy part of town. We went there for lunch (no outdoor seating which seems to be for dinner only). The food is always great at Gusto's as is the service. It's our go to place for fantastic and authentic Italian eats. But, I do want to add the last time we visited we ordered an special appetizer and they were out (it was 6pm) then I ordered the special pasta, again it was sold out, I was pretty frustrated but ordered a similar item.  Overall the experience wasn't the greatest (we were also seated on padded folding chairs). We meant to try Gusto when we visited in the Summer, but they were closed on our days there.  So, when we took a day trip down to visit the Aquarium, I insisted we order a late lunch from Gusto for our in car lunch, since we're not comfortable dining indoors.  I'm so glad we opted for Gusto over other less pricey options.  The fresh made pasta is truly exceptional, and worth the splurge even for in car dining!
