Just spent the most amazing evening at Flights & Irons. New years eve fixed menu 7 courses WITH wine pairings with each course. The restaurant was full of fun decorations and great people. The servers were attentive and funny! My husband and I felt like we were in a big room full of friends and amazing food , not a busy typical restaurant.So many of the people were long time locals who had bought their friends and family. At one point we all stood up and made a toast to the chef and owner Victor and his wife Andrea. Such kind and warm people.We will definitely be back for many lunches and dinner. you can not go wrong with this restaurant as it has everything you want when dining out. Upon visiting San Clemente we looked for a new restaurant we had not tried and found Flights & Irons on Yelp. It sounded interesting and garnered good reviews so we gave it a try. The establishment is just off the main road in a small shops area (you have to look out for it). We were nicely greeted by friendly personnel and our order taken promptly. Our server Kelly was VERY nice, personable and professional! If we go again when in the area we'd love to have her help us again! The French Onion soup and salad were tasty and the hamburger good. Ate here for a second time and really enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. Chili and cornbread is amazing, had the chicken sandwich and it was great as well, the deconstructed guacamole was super cool! We ate the fried bologna and it was super good as well! Just waiting until I can eat the dessert to give 5 stars, but so far I'm too full to try it! I must admit the best thing so far has been the service! This is our 2nd time visiting Flights & Irons, and once again we were not disappointed! We decided to share our meal, so we ordered the Irons Tomato Soup (made with coconut milk), the F& I Caesar Salad, followed by the Shrimp & Scallops. All 3 were excellent!! This is my new favorite restaurant in San Clemente. We came here to celebrate my son's birthday and they took great care of us! Our waitress Kelly was super friendly. The Pinot Noir flight was really nice and thanks bartender for the generous pours! For dinner, my husband and I split the pork chop entree, Caesar salad, and tomato soup. They were all delicious. Just don't expect traditional Caesar dressing on the salad--which for me was fine b/c Caesar dressing can be hit or miss for me at restaurants. The tomato soup was unique-- made creamy by adding coconut milk and jalepeno sauce for a kick. My son loved his ribeye and shoshito pepper appetizer. And for dessert they brought out a freshly baked and warm from the oven chocolate chip cookie in an iron skillet with ice cream for my son's birthday. We managed to polish that off, no problem!! On our way to Los Angeles, we found this gem.We started with the French onion soup. The broth was so flavorful and the croutons were delicious. We then had the roasted tomatoes with melted brie and the shepherds pie. Both were perfectly cooked and full of flavors. To finish, we had the amazing s'mores in an iron skillet. This place was such a gem, it's now our new spot! The food was nothing short of amazing, they really put their own creativity and spin on their dishes but made sure not to lose sight of it's origin. The staff was attentive, friendly, and service was excellent. The atmosphere was also pretty chill, casual and loved the rustic interior. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here. The host who sat us was super friendly, and since we were by the door and it was chilly, we asked to move to the next available spot when it opened up & he immediately cleaned up the table and sat us in a very timely manner when the other guests left. Our server, Kelly, was such a sweetheart. Her vibes were everything! She was attentive and very genuine in all her mannerisms. She made our anniversary that much better! The owner who brought our dishes out was also very friendly. Food: (literally loved everything and I am picky.)1. French onion soup: yes, yes, yes. Just get it, you'll thank me later. 2. Fire roasted tomato & brie: the cherry tomatoes and garlic served with the Brie and bread... So GOOD. Please get this as well. 3. Chili and corn bread -- enjoyed the chili but LOVED the corn bread even more. I'm from Texas so if the corn bread ain't good then ionoooo! 4. Pork chops: never thought I would enjoy pork chop but the way they made it is so good. The pork was tender and the sauce they created is so different but goes together so well with the pork chop. 5. Bologna sandwich: this was really tasty as well. It had mustard in the descriptions so I was afraid to try it but the way all the sauces mixed well really put it all together nicely. Last night we had a group of eight for wine and appetizers. When we walked in, the atmosphere was friendly and lively. The wine selection spans California's wine appellations and it's a great representation. As for the food, it was absolutely fantastic from the house Cesar to the ever so finely sliced bologna grilled sandwich. I highly recommend the bourbon meatballs. Such a fun place to eat with great service and excellent food. Wanted to try something new to celebrate a special birthday and happened upon this place searching on yelp. Had a 5pm reservation on a Saturday night which was perfect timing because after about 6pm there was always a wait for a table. Our server was Tammi and she made our experience here even more enjoyable. Her knowledge from the menu was excellent and she was very helpful in choosing a wine flight based on our tastes. The style of decor was cozy yet modern industrial. Perfectly suited for the establishment's name. There were so many items on the menu we would of been delighted to eat but the majority of our party selected the F & I burger. There are several sides you can have and we each chose something different. We all kept commenting on the freshness of the food and how flavorful everything was. We hadn't even finished our meal and we were thinking of more opportunities to come back. The love felt in the creation of our meal was evident! Came in for the first time tonight for dinner, and Flights & Irons is a rustic looking place at first impression, so we wandered inside. Be careful swinging the front door open too hard; it smashes into the small hostess desk inside- which made me giggle a bit. There is a wall where the tables are that was beautifully hand painted with some life-like black ravens in flight - I thought is this what the Flight is named after? It was ghoulish, but in a beautiful way. I love looking at unusual artwork.The place was decked-out with spooky looking Spanish moss hanging from the ceilings; old style electric light bulbs gave the place an orangey glow. They had some Halloween decorations inside, which I also loved seeing. The atmosphere made me feel like I entered some underground wine cellar, that might even be haunted(!)We had a very attentive waitress named Kelly, who recommended the rib-eye steak and wedge salad; she advised to split each item, which we happily agreed to do.My husband ordered the Hops-alot flight, which is a flight of 4 beers in sample sizes. I especially loved the blood orange IPA. Very crisp beer!I really wanted to order my standard cocktail - Bacardi and diet coke - but please be advised; only beer and wine is available here.I hope that they become a full-service bar, but that's fine. I ordered the home-brewed fresh iced tea, and it was good.Our salad arrived promptly; it was huge, and to think it was only half of the wedge salad! It comes with a huge slab of blue cheese, a half slice of thick bacon, tomato, fresh iceberg lettuce and the salad dressing was delicious.The rib-eye came out as ordered; rare - with wonderful mashed potatoes, baby asparagus and baby carrots; all sauted to perfection!We were very happy to be eating here tonight!For dessert, Kelly recommended the S'Mores, which comes oven baked in a mini-iron skillet. It was heavenly!We were so impressed with this new place in San Clemente, which has now officially become our # 1 fav place!!!Plenty of free parking out front; it's across the street from Sprouts, Stein Mart and TJ Maxx. Give Flights & Irons Urban Kitchen a try. You will be pleasantly STOKED that you did!!!We will definitely be back to eat here again soon. They are hosting a Halloween Dinner Party this Thursday, October 31st. I hear the chef is preparing a ghoulish menu, and the recipes are under lock and key. Wow! Everything about this restaurant is great! A can't miss! We went for lunch and maybe a salad. We both decided on the wedge which was excellent. Started off with the green fried tomatoes. We picked this spot because of the high ratings on Yelp and we weren't disappointed! It's my favorite Ahi salad of all time as that is what I always seem to order if its available. My son even said he should have ordered the salad. As for what my son, Ryan ordered, which was a shrimp and scallops, it was good but a needed carbs. We went here for a late lunch and really enjoyed it. It feels almost like a contemporary version of a tavern. The word that comes to mind is "hearty. " I ordered the meatballs for an appetizer, and my wife had the tomato soup. Both were delicious. We also had the meat pie with potatoes, which comes in an iron skillet (like almost everything they serve). Really cool and unique vibe. Very chill. A nice place to come and relax for dinner and drinks. I love the selection of flights, I got the Blackbird Cabernet flight and it was so good. The menu is small but interesting. We started with shishito peppers. Loved the charred lemon on the side but they really really begged for a dipping sauce of some sort- maybe a goat cheese sauce or some sort of aioli. Anyway, our entrees were great. I had the shepherds pie and my husband had the chicken Caesar. Finished with a very good Creme Brûlée. Best part was the service. Our waiter was attentive and friendly but also very mellow and not "trying to hard". A nice change from some of the "always in your face" type of service that some places have these days! If the peppers had a dipping sauce and the creme brûlée had some fresh berries or mint I would say 10/10! But still very good and deserving of a 5 star review. More...

If you do not know about Flights and Irons. You have no idea what you're missing. It's a hidden gem. The food is absolutely delicious. We went up to spend the day in Laguna beach and we were on our way home and Yelp'd a restaurant and Flights & Irons popped up. We were a party of four and My mother law and I ordered the Rib Eye steak with homemade mashed potatoes and carrots and asparagus. It was absolutely delicious. I put this rib eye on my top 3 steaks that were on the amazing list. The portion size was large. Excellent choice. My husband got the wedge salad good portion size and was delicious. My daughter got Shepard's Pie with homemade mashed potatoes. Was served in a black cast iron pan. The Shepard's pie is absolute must try. I have to say the food was absolutely great. Our waitress Tammy recommendation were great choices. Her service was outstanding. I must say the creme brûlée was torched a little to much it taste a little burnt. The cream part was good. Tammy said The pork chop is really good. So, we will be back to try the pork chop for sure. I recommend this place. Great food, excellent service, good size portions, great pricing. Oooooh, so good! Very unassuming exterior, but inside, it's a whole different vibe. Busy and bustling on a Friday night, plenty of staff, guests in good spirits, tasteful industrial/pub decor, and the food was awesome. Piping hot and didn't skimp on portion or quality. The mashed potatoes were crazy delicious and we couldn't finish everything. Happy to have somewhere within walking distance to visit!!
