I have been coming to Summer for almost 8 years now, and never once have I ever left her chair disappointed! She is the absolute best! Even when I show up with not a clue what I want to do to my hair, she comes up with something amazing. My stylist is Summer and I come all the way from Northern California to have her do my hair. I love her artistry and attention to detail when it comes to making sure my hair is perfect. I trust her artistic sense and really value the time she takes to make sure I am satisfied. Her assistant Alex is also really sweet and they work well as a team. Miguel was absolutely amazing he fixed my hair and gave me exactly the look I was going for which is tough since the color mix was unique. I wanted a dark brown with a burgundy tint and it is exactly that!!! I drove from la and I know for touch ups I'm willing to make the drive to see him specifically. Highly recommend and fair price. I love this salon! After checking in, I was given a tour of the salon, which was a really nice touch. I just had my first appointment at Headlines this past weekend and was so happy I found my "home." I was introduced to the salon by Summer who just moved to Headlines. Even though I live about 20 miles way, I will follow Summer anywhere! I am very particular about my hair and Summer is great about listening and offering recommendations. Her technique is amazing. I am possibly the pickiest person ever in terms of hairdresser's due to having very complicated hair. I discovered Summer L. after admiring a friend's color and cut and have now been going to her for several years. She knows what to do with my color and cut before I can explain and is always comfortable with me giving her my input. I know I will look fabulous when I leave the salon and for many weeks afterwards. She's also a true professional in every way. I went to Headlines for the first time. The salon is beautiful and everyone is so kind! Summer is my stylist. She is absolutely amazing. I have followed her for a while now. This salon is amazing! Today was my first time there and I had never enjoyed my salon experience more. Nicole was my hairstylist and she gave me the best haircut. I came into Headlines Salon for the first time on 10/04. The salon was beautifully kept, clean and fresh. The staff was inviting and friendly. I was impressed and kind of loved that there were clients of all ages!  My appointment was with Summer, who is my all time favorite hair stylist! I've been with her for years and she always keeps my hair looking like I've found the fountain of youth. She's the master at hiding my horrendous grays, and she keeps me looking at least a decade younger than my actual age. I love that I can trust her to know when my color should go lighter or darker depending on the season. She's the sweetest and so knowledgeable about hair, which I love, because she always makes me feel comfortable when asking I ask her about hair questions! And she's awesome about explaining what she's working on and helping you to understand what she's doing & why! Let me start by saying Summer is my hair stylist, and I'll follow her wherever she goes! A year ago I sat in her chair and challenged her to an extensive transformation on my hair. She took it from a level 2 to about a level 6 in one day, and the best part is the integrity of my hair was not jeopardized throughout the process. Today was my first day coming to Headlines. The owner, Gayle, greeted me at the door. Everyone was friendly and made me feel so welcome. I saw Summer Labayen for highlights today. She did an amazing job! I am very happy with the results. Alex assisted and was fun yet efficient. The salon was gorgeous. This review is long overdue.  I was recommended to come see Christy to fix my hair color by a friend and oh boy, she is amazing!  She's professional but also very personable.  I enjoyed all the nice perks the salon offers, such as discounts as a first time customer, water/wine/tea during the service, space and quality time with Christy.  Christy spent a few hours on my hair (I needed it! It has been a long time since I had my hair done by a professional hair stylist and I love my experiences so far! This is only my second appointment with my friend, Christy, and she was able to revive my DIY bleached hair. I love experimenting with my hair but ofcourse it comes with a price when I do it myself (dry damaged hair). Lol.I found out about this place through Christy's Instagram posts. We met in Okinawa and I was excited to learn that she is now doing hair here in SD! They had a promo offer on my first visit. I was able to get a free hair boost and I got a much needed haircut with a discounted price. I love the products that Christy recommended from the salon.Christy is amazing and she listened to my hair espectations and requests. She did educate me on how to take care of my hair and also suggested better ways to achieve great hair. She was able to transform my hair. I have been a regular client of Headlines The Salon (HTS) for one year now and so this review will be very extensive. Unfortunately, I have moved to Texas so I will miss the HTS team dearly and will try my best to see them if I am ever in town (they're that awesome! ).  Parking/Location - There's nothing worse than going to a hair salon and then having trouble to find parking. No need to worry because there's plenty of spaces all throughout the day because it shares the spaces with other businesses in the area. It's also conveniently close to Trader Joe's for any last-minute lunches/snacks. Customer Service - HTS has been hands-down the best hair salon I've ever been to with consistent excellent customer service. They go beyond just providing drinks with your service (coffee, tea, champagne, and wine) but also provide cell phone chargers, checking in with you, and ease of booking appts via their app or online. They are also very transparent about their pricing and do not hesitate to help me understand the price breakdown. The biggest highlight is their extremely useful booking system (booking, email confirmations, and digital receipts). You can book appointments on their app or through Yelp. This make is so much easier for me to book because I often do not get a chance at work to call in AND it helps me to remember what services I have gotten done. Stylist/Services - I have consistently received services from Anastasia (Ana) Nguyen at HTS. Before coming to HTS my hair was extremely damaged, brassy, frizzy, short, and incredibly awful. I was attempting to go blonder, but the previous stylist was not careful enough and caused more harm than good. It felt like I was in a vicious cycle of going from blonde damaged hair to brassy hair to really short frizzy hair because of the previous stylists. So, my first appointment with Ana was the Cezanne treatment. After getting the treatment I was amazed by how smooth my hair was in the San Diego humid summer heat. Because of the treatment, my natural curls didn't need much product and were perfect. After my Cezanne we talked about my ash blonde hair goals. Going blonder required a lot of maintenance and so over the course of a year we did two full highlights and about 3-4 partial highlights. Gradually we got it to where I wanted it to be and I was amazed by how much my hair has grown all the while it was healthy and blonder! Another service not always mentioned is their lather lounge! I love going in there because it was like an oasis and almost felt like a spa day for me. Anastasia Nguyen is meticulous and always consults with me for every service (even though I see her often lol), she is also honest and transparent with the appointment while giving me tips and advice on how to take care of my hair. Because of her, I was able to take care of my hair better and ultimately help me achieve my hair goals. She is seriously my hair guru and star stylist in the making.Pricing - Yes, it is slightly more pricey than other salons but if you want quality hair then you should pay for quality prices. I have also learned in the past that going to cheaper salons was not only costing me more (having to go back more often) but it was also damaging my hair and causing me more stress without achieving the results I wanted. Every dollar I spent at HTS was so worth it. Additional Highlights - I love how HTS works with local non-profits in the community and often times has events to support different causes. They also have a day where they educate the stylists which is awesome because it shows they are truly invested in their staff and ensuring they are learning new techniques or brushing up on old ones. Overall, the salon is so perfectly put together. All the staff also seem to really enjoy what you do! The whole atmosphere is what you want when going to a spa/salon. After you are greeted, there is an area where you can enjoy wine, champagne, water, and other refreshments. They also have snacks! (Great for those longer appointments.) My stylist was Brooklin, and let me tell ya....Brooklin is incredible!!! I recently had a color correction on my blonde with a fresh cut and root shadowing with her. The outcome came just how I envisioned and my hair feels amazing! She reviewed some styling techniques with me and products that would help me achieved my desired results. I started getting facials about 6 months ago because a friend of mine convinced me it was time ( I'll be 40 next month) I've tried a few places and I have enjoyed getting facials, but not sure I'm 100% seeing any benefits and kind of looking around to really find a connection with an esthetician. I attended an event here at Headlines and met Kristina. Right off the bat, I could tell she was super cool and the kinda person I would want to take care of my skin care needs. I wasn't looking to just score free stuff, I was really looking to get some information and hopefully find a new salon home. After talking with Kristina and getting a simple demonstration on my hand of the " Phyto-Active Firming Mask" I had a feeling I had found what I was looking for! I decided to purchase the mask and book a facial with Kristina. I got a pumpkin scrub as well and went home and used both products before coming back for my facial. They were both amazing!When I checked in for my appointment, the girls at the desk was very friendly and welcoming. I was offered water (in a real glass) and seated in their comfy chair to fill out my questionnaire. I only sat about 5 minutes and Kristina came out to get me. She took me in and gave me the run down and then came back. Usually I starts to get a little nervous laying in the table waiting for a new esthetician, wondering what the experience would be like, but this time I didn't. I was totally relaxed and ready to get my facial.Kristina came in and did the consultation and we got started. She was so personable and really listened to my needs. In previous experience I've been overloaded with recommendations and felt like it was too much. Kristina got that about me and recommended I add one new thing at a time into my routine. I really liked that. The new thing I'm introducing now is the " Daily Hydration" drops. I already love what I see! A very meticulously run high end salon that offers haircuts, color, styling, skin care, makeup and eyebrow shaping.The salon has been in its present location for 7 years, and in the same strip mall for 30 additional years; I mention the years because we may assume that anyplace that has been around that long must be getting something right.I have to say that if we didn't have experience with having our hair cut by some very top stylists we'd probably have given Headlines 5 stars, but really whether it is a 4 or 5 star experience depends on which stylist you get at Headlines, and whether that stylist is best suited for your type of hair and desired cut.At Headlines the price you pay depends on the extent of experience your stylist has, in terms of years working at the salon, and over all expertise.  All the stylists are employees, not merely renting a chair.  The range for men's haircuts is $50 - $70 and for women's $65 - $105  Of course color highlights etc. are extra.She had hers cut by Brooklyn ($95. + tip), who is on of the upper tier stylists, and me by Zach ($50. + tip), who is about in the middle in terms of years on the job and skills.  Both did an excellent job and made us feel pampered.  (We did have a $20. off coupon for each cut, and also used a $100. gift card to pay most of the bill, which came with a free up to $35. item.)In all, over the years, if you haven't found the perfect stylist for what you want done with your hair yet, you might just find it here at Headlines.  If not, it wouldn't necessarily be because of a shortcoming at Headlines, just might mean that you need to keep searching until you find the perfect match with your type of hair, and desired cut. Benny is worth ever damn penny!I saw Alex Bennetts (IG @blondedbybenny) to get full highlights and a cut. I had never been to the salon before but found it thru Yelp. All the stylist have IG accounts so you can lurk on their work. I thought Alex's pics look awesome and I wanted to go blonde so I setup an appointment online (super easy process). My first visit I was legit blown away. The salon setup is amazing. There is a middle area where you can bring your computer and work while your under one of those heat lamp things. There is a jar with snacks there and the front girl offered me tea, coffee, wine, beer, etc...basically they have everything you'd need. Anyways the salon is badass. Onto my hair. I've gotten my hair done a few different places and usually it takes me a few days to really like it. I'm not kidding when I say Alex is Magic. My hair looked soooo good. I loved it immediately which has never happened. My hair was toned to this really pretty blonde color and she made it look natural like I just got back from a vacation. I gotta tell you... On an invitation I came here. I am a 5'10,  215 lb equipment operator in Del Mar. The last " salon " I was in was 20 yrs ago to pick up my mom. WOW...times have changed. I brought a female friend to act as a buffer because of my appearance. Not needed. I was amazed !! We were greeted at a wine cart manned by a local winery owner. He was no doubt knowledgeable but his demeanor was one who is both committed to his craft and who shared his enthusiasm for it.As Liz and I proceeded into the crowd I was in awe of all the services they offered. From colors to cuts, nails, beauty consultations ( and they know beauty !! )and hot towels for your skin. We saw it. Now I've given a side eye to unisex establishments. Not here. I was offered a facial with a hot towel which I politely turned down...why you ask A young lady Renee Fiore who is an in-house stylist, had braided my beard !! I didn't want to spoil her master piece. It created quite the stir. I've yet to see so much enthusiasm in one room. I was even invited by the owner to their Christmas Party to be their Santa !! I have been here twice and had an amazing experience both times. The girl that did my hair both times is really sweet. I have only gone in for a trim but I am debating about dying my hair and will definitely go here for that. It was a little hard for me to find when I first went because my apple maps told me it was on the other side of the parking lot. Let me tell you about the best salon around....I am seriously so impressed with Headlines! From when I first walked in the door, I was in love with the cute little champagne cart that greeted me and all the cute decor around the salon. They offer you coffee, champagne, etc., and there's a sitting area in the middle where you can get work done while you're waiting for your appointment or for anyone who came along with you to be able to hang out at. I'm always nervous going in for a haircut that it won't be what I'm looking for, but Renee knew exactly what to do and made sure to check with me as we were going that it was the length and style I wanted.I came back the next morning to get my hair and makeup styled for Coachella and Renee styled my hair with the prettiest festival braid. Cebrian did such an amazing makeup look on me, perfectly capturing exactly what I asked for - not heavy or caked at all but turned out great for photos.
