We had Carl come to our Friday night rehearsal dinner. We had people from very diverse locations/backgrounds and Carl brought everyone together in a fun, laughter filled mixer while learning 4 different square dances. Carl did a great job coordinating with us before the event and ensuring that we had thought about all the elements of the wedding - ceremony through reception. He did a great job of helping us think of music that fit all ages of people in attendance! Great that he also mic'ed the ceremony! Guests appreciated the opportunity to make requests! We had a couple of challenges with the speakers and microphones being a bit out of range for the toasts and some of the music requested wasn't played - but he did a good job improvising to ensure that it was covered. Carl is awesome! He made the night so fun and special for our everyone at our party. We were all 50 somethings and total beginners—Carl had us dancing in no time. We were able to request music, too. We also learned a little bit about the history of each dance and barn dances. When we weren’t dancing, Carl dj’d our favorite tunes and more that were the country style of the night. What do you love most about your job?
I love to share the joy of social dancing with others, whether it is providing entertainment at a Church Social, a School Barn Dance, or a Company Picnic, teaching a couple ballroom steps for the First Dance at their Wedding Reception, providing dance music for a special event, or leading school kids in a good-old-fashioned Hoedown!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was brought up in a dancing family - three generations dancing together - and realized that today's society lacks that social activity. Parents often transport their kids to lessons/sports/activities, but do not actively participate WITH THEIR CHILDREN... Social Dancing [Square, Folk, Ballroom] is an inter-generational activity that everyone can do... with a little instruction from the floor.

Beyond a DJ playing music, I'm a Dance Leader! In addition to providing Emcee services for weddings and other special events, I can include an old-fashioned Barn Dance segment (25 - 50 minutes long) consisting of squares, contras, polkas, non-partner, mixers, novelty, and couple dances - Great fun for all ages! No experience necessary, I demonstrate all dances from the floor and adjust the program to the experience and ability of the group to assure maximum participation and enjoyment.
Personable and Professional, my goal is to make sure everyone is having a great time, and to keep the event moving along. My music library consists of 80 years of dance favorites - Big Band to Modern Pop, Classic Rock to Hip Hop, Jazz Standards to Country. Give me your play list and let the party begin.
Barn Dance Leader
My specialty is taking a group with little or no dance experience and introduce them to the joy of dancing. The Barn Dance program (about 2 hours long) consist of fun, easy dances from America's Heritage that everyone can do - with brief instruction from the floor. Using a unique combination of Squares, Contras, Mixers, Couple and non-partner dances, along with country line and novelty dances such as the Chicken Dance and the Macarena, I adjust the program to match the group's dance ability, ensuring maximum participation and enjoyment. And it all concludes with the traditional Virginia Reel and Big Circle Dance - a crowd favorite!
Special Events DJ/Emcee
Whether for a themed party, reception, or other special event, CBDanceman has the music to make it a hit. Variety is the key, Versatility is the magic, and Personality puts it all together. We never play the same genre or tempo song after song after song, but mix it up to give a well rounded program - with over 8 decades of dance favorites. We provide a suggested song list in advance, and do our best to honor requests. Most of all, our music programs are always family friendly, with no explicit lyrics or inappropriate language.
Ballroom Dance Instruction
I love to help those who desire to dance. I have danced for 50+ years and know no better activity for socializing, exercise, and overall well being.
I teach basic steps - swing, chacha, rumba, foxtrot, polka, waltz, tango, nightclub two-step - and styling to help you look good on the floor.
Weekly sessions, one hour each, are recommended.
Fee includes instruction pages so you can practice on your own, and you can video the lessons for visual reference.
Private one-on-one lessons for couples or individuals, or a group lesson to share the experience with family and friends, you provide the dancers and location, I provide the music and fun.
First Dance Choreography
Want to do more than sway to the music for your First Dance?
We start with some basic steps and styling to the song of your choosing.
Add some custom choreography that is sure to wow your guests. Then, to liven things up a bit, we can change the music to something fun and funky and you cut loose (but we keep it clean and in good taste)!
I recommend 4-6 weekly sessions, one hour each.
Fee includes music editing and CD/MP3 file for playing at your wedding, instruction pages so you can practice on your own, and you can video the lessons for visual reference.
Lessons/choreography can also be applied to Father/Daughter dance, and Wedding Party group dance. I bring music & equipment, you provide the dance space.
